Does GPS require Data?
I have just installed the new altell rom and got the gps to work with the GPSTool, but every time i connect to gps it automatically connects to data. I do not have data plan so it will be very costly if this goes on. I tried to delete the connection but it keeps creating by it self. So instead of #777 i put 1 so it does not connect to data, but now the GPSTool always asks for internet. Please explain to me if GPS requires internet and if no, what programs can use GPS without internet.
ps: it doesn't make sence that if you buy a external gps u don't need internet, and if its internal u do. any reply is much appreciated. |

Re: Does GPS require Data?
GPS shouldn't use data unless the maps you are using are streamed (ie Google Maps, Live Search).

What other way would it work fully without streaming? |
Re: Does GPS require Data?
^^ U can't with Google Maps or Live Search because they get their maps through data. U'd have to use a commercial software that comes with maps

Re: Does GPS require Data?
like microsoft pocket streets or whatever it's called. you have the map files on your phone all the time.

nope......................... ITS STAND ALONE.

Re: Does GPS require Data?
I think most commercially available GPS apps require data. I think TeleNav, TomTom, Garmin, etc all have a fineprint somewhere that says ....must have data plan..
