TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
I've been searching this forum for a way to have navigation with my touch... ti seemed to be impossible unless a new rom from sprint would come out, which would enable the GPS.
I have the everything plan with sprint, which when I signed up, mentioned that navigation was also free. I decided to call in and ask about how would I have navigation, since it's included in my plan, and would not hang up until they would come up with an anwer. Well, they put me on hold for some 20 minutes and gave me the following address: softwarestore.sprint.com, click on your phone, select travel tools and buy the software called Navi2Go which is 9.99 They said that the data that feeds the sftware is free, but the software is not... the price is not a big deal, and it displays real 3d gps images as you navigate (as per pictures on the decription of the software) My question is, have you guys had any experience with it? Would like to know before buying... is it frame by frame or does it move like a real GPS? Does it actually work? Here's the link: http://softwarestore.sprint.com/prod...id=2369&cat=85 I will appreciate any advise... even if it means to wait for sprint new rom... By the way, see the u tube video, which is very good, but unbelievable... http://youtube.com/watch?v=EkgMJLcgygQ and also the sprint store says... NAVI2GO for TOUCH even if it works off the towers... is it an alright and usable application for navigation, d you recommend anything else or something free so I could try? I had my GPS stolen from my car (which was locked inside the glove compartment). I do have another one, but since I don't leave it in the car anymore, sometimes I forget to bring it along... |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
It's not true gps, meaning it will work off of the cell towers.. I think the term is called A-GPS (not sure about this though). True GPS wont be available until they release a rom upgrade to enable it, which is supposed to come out sometime this decade..heh ;)

Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
Yeah, but if this works, wouldn't it be revolutionary? Pretty much all of Sprint's phones are A-GPS... My M1 worked with telenav, and was just as accurate as my tomtom, but with an online presence, you get much much more... can anyone confirm that this even works without a GPS receiver?
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
i would like to know also. ive been waiting for something like this
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
I am not sure but in the description it say uses external gps or internal if your device has it... that leaves me to believe it won't work since ours isn't enabled...hopefully someone can chime in and let us know for sure
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
Yes you still need an gps receiver for now until the update rom come out.
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
Don't forget, it was recommended by a sprint representative who told me that is the way to have navigation on the phone. I was jus wondering if anyone knew about it before giving away my hard earned $10.
I will read the terms and conditions of the sprint store and see if they will refund in case it does not work. BTW, does the touch has a built in GPS for sure or not? If not, how would the Firmware enable it? If it does, how are you so sure about that? Thank you for your info guys! |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
Search....it does have gps it will be enabled along with RevA godwilling by the end of Q2
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
Google Navi2go and you will see that it does not appear to be GPS-driven but uses images of places to simulate a route you would follow in much the same way as google maps does, though using real images instead. So you can see how the route would look from a variety of perspectives but you are not represented on the map in real time.

Anyway, what does this have to do with your question? well they have one thing in common. If you look around the Vogue area here you will see Rev A and GPS are coming, but need to be enabled by the radio firmware (much like the mogul). Look around and you will see plenty of discussion about this. Plus if you google navi2go it has this at its website: "Go to m.navi2go.com on your Windows Mobile or Symbian Device for public demo" Id try that before I buy anythingt |

Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
You're right... there had to be a catch... thank you all... I hope the new rev A comes soon...

Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
Hey Jgatter,
It's kinda funny that you mention that application because a friend of mine is using it and he said it works great. He showed it to me and it was pretty amazing and like someone mentioned here, revolutionary. Just to ease your mind, my friend downloaded the demo version before he bought the app and it is really believable and nothing like Googlemap. Its more like GoogleEarth because its in 3D. If you want, go to m.navi2go.com and check the demo out urself. I think the coolest thing is that the picture moves along with you so you can see exactly where you are, so I guess it does have tracking. sorry to hear that your GPS what stolen... |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
So since this is a subscription, would this be included in the Simply Everything Plan?
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
Hey,
I found Navi2Go's company group on facebook... http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=11197119337 |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
I have the Sprint Navigation with Telenav workiing on my Touch. This is part of my Simply Everything plan. Not sure if you are talking about the same software though.
I first downloaded the Sprint Navigation software for the Mogul. I then installed the Telenav software (almost the same as SPrint version) which lets me select a bluethooth GPS receiver (Sprint Version doesn't) |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
I downloaded and bought this program yesterday, I have telenav which I LOVE!!But I am a navi junky, and had to try this.
STAY AWAY!! This program is complete GARBAGE!! First off you cannot save any locations, which is pathetic, secondly, its almost impossible to enter address's and if you go off course, it does not tell you how to get back on, it just gets stuck at the point you turned off. Its by far the worst program ever made for a PPC |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
@dutchman71
I was just wondering where you downloaded the Sprint Navigation software for the Mogul, and if possible a description on how to set it up on a Touch device. Thanks for your help! |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
Here is a link to the Nav cab http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362745 hope it helps.
Havent tried it thought Id let someone see if it is useable for our Touch. Its for the mogul. |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
just get a bluetooth reciever they are only around 50, I just got one from http://www.semsons.com and it works great.
who knows how long sprint is going to have us waiting, you cant beat the telenav/google maps combo especially with summer coming up. |

Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
Seriously, If you are in a good area Navizons paid version may work fairly well for you till the update comes out. There is a 30 day free full version trial and after that it just uses cell towers, not very accurate in that mode, but within a mile or two. And of course after you get the GPS update, then you can make some money too, plus if you have friends that may map your area, they may sign up under you. Anyway, you may like it.

The link in your signature doesn't work. So this works with Sprint? |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
THANKS! - Link fixed, wonder how that happened???? It worked before.
Yes it works w/ any provider. |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
just tried it on my sprint touch. cant pick up radio
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
doesn't work on my Sprint Touch either.
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
Oh Jeez, my bad, I forgot the touch has no wifi... Sorry!
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go

why does it need wifi? if its just to get internet, there should be no problem getting it to work with evdo. |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
It act 'like' a gps by using cell tower an/or wifi triangulation. Wifi is way more accurate, but cell towers will still get you relatively close (blocks or miles away from your real location).
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
So, it uses a mock GPS system, built from custom WIFI locations? All over the United States or something? I just don't see how that would work very well. People would essentially have to run custom firmware on their routers, that can broadcast their address...
I see pure cell tower triangulation as much more likely... Similar to AT&T's iPhone solution. (which sucks.) |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
works real well in araes that are mapped - they pay people to map areas - that's the link in my sig - and no special firmware or anything for routers, read up, it's pretty cool actually.
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
there is nothing in your sig....
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
that's cause I was posting from my 6800 - I didn't realize I would get a new page - my previous posts have a sig. Not to make you search too far or anything ;)
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
i guess im already a member, and there is noone around my area that shows up on the map >.>

Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
don't buy its even worst thatn live search and google maps you still need the gps to do anything
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
bonabob, sometimes people get attached to their own software...but everybody that I know that has used this app, think its the coolest thing!! why would you want to navigate over lines, that's old tech.
besides, i heard its is coming out with an automatic update with recalculating route and saving addresses, so that's not an issue. |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
Like I said before, I like it a lot...It just looks real and there is nothing like it out there.
Nuguy, have you seen the downloaded demo? |
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
I bought the visiontac gps 700 receiver for under $100 and the touch works awesome with it.if you have a plan that includes sprint nav then go to http:oota.telenav.com/ota/sn on your touch browser and download to phone.it is a better app than the sprint nav and it is no extra charge if you already have a plan that includes sprint navigation.their are remote blutooth gps receivers online for as little as $30-$40 and using the gps this way is superior to using internal phone gps. After talking to 6+ tech support reps and no-one knowing the way to get the app on the phone,I played around on the telenav website and found it.if you go to telenav.com and go through the motions of signing up it will tell you that you already have a navigation plan through sprint and it will take you to the download link I included.you will be amazed at how well gps works this way.I also downloaded nav4all and it also works awesome and is free til 2010,but to get through the email setup you need to change the keyboard input(already in touch)from touch keyboard to keyboard.BTW navi2go sucks compared to telenav and nav4all(www.nav4all.com).
|
Re: TOUCH GPS via Navi2Go
There is no comparison to nav4all, that application isn't even in 3D so again you're dealing with lines and confusing arrows instead of seeing whats really infront of you. I wouldn't trust that application to keep me from getting lost...
