So far I've had no major issues with it. Some benefits of this one are:
a) it's got a mic too, so I can use regular headphones with a mic (as requested by pocomike)
b) it's much more flexible, so makes it easier to stick in my pocket or move around and whatever (e.g. won't force my plug to stick out of the touch now that it's sideways, and don't have to worry about how it sits in my pocket).

Hope that helps...

Thanks...exactly what I was looking for. Needed to charge + pass music to car aux port + ability to answer calls without removing usb cable. It was out of stock there but i found one at daydeal:

I disassembled the stock adapter and soldered a standard 3.5 mm male jack to it to use with the aux input in my car. No good. There must be some kind of switching going on, as I quoted from the earlier post.
I have insurance so I will try shorting pin 3 to ground (that looks right to me too rstoyguy, someone let me know ASAP if we're wrong!!) and see if that works.
Will post results...

Just an FYI, it's easy to mod the stock headphones. Just cut off earbuds, and solder the three wires (left, right, and ground) to a $1 Radio Shack 3.5mm male plug. Works well.

Trying to respond to two posts here... so bear with me.

Adz1966,
I have verified this myself, but I believe the following schematic is what you are looking for. I do know that I have come across some threads talking about this as well: http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/...tor_pin_config

sprinttouch666,
Yes, it is very possible to play music from our devices. They support A2DP which is essentially for stereo bluetooth headsets (I'm sure somebody will correctly if I'm wrong).

I modded the HTC headset with a Y/3.5 splitter by splicing the earbud wires to the female(right/left) connector ends of the Y splitter and have working stero/mic now.. Only thing is I still can't charge while listening to music or using phone.

total cost = $0
