Minimal Cube

2 Attachment(s)
Alright, it's been a long time coming, but here it is. The Minimal Cube.

This is the cube for all of you who don't like things flashy, but want to get straight to the point.

This initial offering is a pure black and white 4 sided cube. It still has a few known issues (stated below), but those should be easy fixes using the CubeConfig Tool by thisguyinoc.

Please Un-install any other Cubes you may have installed before installing Minimal Cube!

1st Launcher Programs:

S2UP, Etrade (web), Calendar
PPCGeeks (web), Settings, Active Sync (needs to be fixed by changing exe to lnk)
Java, Camera, File Explorer
Mail, Pocket IE, SMS (quotation marks need to be around SMS in Param)

2nd Launcher Programs:

Word Mobile, SD Card (explorer), Games (explorer)
YouTube (web), Help (currently doesn't work), Orb (web)
My Documents (explorer), Comm Manager, Live Search
Mail, Pocket IE, SMS (quotation marks need to be around SMS in Param)

Now the real beauty of this cube is that the background shows behind the icons, so if you create your own background brn and put it as the 'Background' value for APLauncher or CustAPLauncher, you will see your custom background after a soft reset.

I plan on putting out a few different color schemes (keeping the black icons) in the next few days. If you've got a suggestion, let me know.

THIS IS FOR THE SPRINT (CDMA) TOUCH
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/e...247/rotate.gif

Special thanks to chrfb for creating the "ecqlipse 2" dock icons!

Update:
Alright, I've decided to release the icon pack as a source image.

What this means is that I have created two images (one GIMP format, one PhotoShop format) with multiple layers including the Glass effects (named Glass and Push).

For those of your familiar with GIMP or Photoshop this will be an easy way to create new icons.

For those of you who are not so familiar, I'll release the icons as brns over the weekend. For now here are the source images. Or this could be the perfect opportunity for you to stretch your GIMP legs! (hehe...GIMP legs) http://www.gimp.org

Have Fun! :-D

Whoa, MinimalCube is a work of art, simplicity, and pure genius! Many thanks.

I tried this on my touch and she is having issues, the install went ok when I slide up she opens up to the 6 blank squares then she locks up and I have to restart the phone

Hmm. That's strange. Did you un-install any other cube you may have had before installing the Minimal Cube? I guess I should put that warning at the top. Works great on mine (clean Sprint Touch).

I would suggest uninstalling any cube tweaks or skins and then retrying.

dawilliams660 02-06-2008 08:33 PM

I'll try that, also are you using WM6.1??

Musicman247 02-06-2008 08:41 PM

I am, and everything works fine. I'm using dharvey4651's merged ROM found HERE. It's the stock Vogue ROM with WM 6.1

shagdeuce 02-08-2008 12:13 PM

That is sweet Musicman. I just received my Touch this week, so mine is pretty much stock. The cube works great. Thanks.

Vadapav 02-09-2008 01:24 PM

Touch Dual works on a different system than the Vogue (Sprint Touch). Let me check over at xda and see how PP18 converted the iCube.

Registry or future update?

I love this cube, but is there a way to customize the icons to open other applications and commands?

Musicman247 02-12-2008 05:15 AM

thisguyinoc's Cube Config Tool 4.1 works perfectly with this cube! You can find it stickied at the top of this forum.

Thanks! I had it installed already, but overlooked that it was in the iCube tab.

Instead of launching a program, how do I change the items to a command like "lock device"

Musicman247 02-12-2008 05:47 AM

As far as I know, you cannot.

d1rtyd 02-14-2008 06:18 AM

I love your work

Thanks MusicMan247! I love your work and dedication. Now I have to spend a few hours configuring all the apps and icons. SWEEET. It installs clean, it runs clean, and its easy to configure with the cube config tool. I love it!

cannot uninstall.........

please help.........

Re: Minimal Cube

Uninstall will only fail if you have manually changed registry values or deleted files before running the uninstall. You might try re-installing, then uninstalling.

Re: Minimal Cube

This cube is sick! I would like to use it with a different animation though, possibly the sheet turn animation by frufo 2000. Is it possible to pair this cube with different animations?

Musicman247 03-06-2008 03:35 PM

Re: Minimal Cube

Sort of. Animations will always look the same, no matter what icons or Cube you use, so if the animation matches enough you could use it.

Re: Minimal Cube

@ meka24 -

-Download the MinimalCube.zip
-Unzip MinimalCube.zip
-copy and paste MinimalCube.cab onto your phone
-find MinimalCube.cab on your phone using File Explorer and click on MinimalCube.cab

Re: Minimal Cube

Thanks Musicman! Any chance there will be more icons developed/released soon?

Musicman247 03-06-2008 04:30 PM

Re: Minimal Cube

It's possible. We'll see. Got a lot on my plate right now. Work, MacFlo Big Button, PointUI Cube, iCube V2. I think I can squeeze some icons in there somewhere. :-)

Re: Minimal Cube

You need to have the HTC Cube installed on your device first. Minimal Cube is just a skin for the HTC Cube.

Hey here's the minimal icon set as individual .tga files - I've added a few of my own and its ready to use with skinning apps such as wisbar advance desktop... There's two versions of each icon - the standard and the pushed version (using both adds a nice animation effect in Wisabr) hope they're of use....

Musicman247 03-25-2008 12:19 AM

Re: Minimal Cube

Thanks, Patrick! Never got around to making those. Rep added.

Re: Minimal Cube

No Worries - they're a nice clean design.. Have you thought of making some matching task bars, clock faces, windows skins etc? You have the beginnings of a smoking hot theme there and it'd also be great to have a theme that isnt Vista or the iPhone (is it just me or is originality in short supply when it comes to themes?):headbang:

Sure thing - try this link - it's pretty much got all the info you'll ever need on everything cube related http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=325424

Re: Minimal Cube

backgrounds take up the full screen, and since the Touch's screen is 240 pixels wide and 320 pixels high, your images should be 240 x 320.

Re: Minimal Cube

is there any way to make a custom background fit better with the rest of the cube? i wanted a blue background but it only applies it to the two multiple app launcher sides (the contacts and media hub are unchanged). Also when the animation is playing it shows the black background, is there any way to change this?
Thanks!

Musicman247 04-03-2008 10:51 PM

Re: Minimal Cube

The only way you can change the background for the QuickDial screen is to create your own QD_Bkgd.brn. And the only way to change the MediaHub background is to create your own Media Hub buttons.

Same thing with the animation. The animation is 44 individual images, so you would need to edit each one to change the background in those.

If it helps all of the brn files can be found in \My Documents\Minimal, so you can copy them over to your computer, use the bmp to brn tool to convert them to bmps, use Gimp to edit the images, then use the convert tool to change them to brns again.

Sorry. I wish there was an easier way.

I've been playing around with MusicMan's icon packs and the BRN files for the minimal Cube and figured I may as well share what I have put together so far.
It's going fairly well so far, with two exceptions, and if anyone can help that would be fabulous.

1) Doing the image manipulations by hand is a royal PITA. It should be able to script things very easily (all I'm doing is using the invert and colorify functions in GIMP repeatedly.) I don't suppose anyone knows of a good tutorial or example on how to script repetitive actions in GIMP, or feels like writing up a (relatively) simple script (which would then serve as a good example for any other scripts.)

2) Changing the cube files. If I try to overwrite any of the cube files in use, Windows throws a hissy fit; and understandably so. How in the world do I temporarily turn off the cube?

I imagine there are answers for both of these on the web somewhere, I just have to look around for them. If I happen to find it before I hear on here I'll update my post so people don't waste time answering a question I know the answer to. I figured I'd ask since I was already going to be posting anyways.

Onto the files. The minimal*.zip files contain BMP and BRN files for everything. The minimalInvert.zip icons are a good start for colorizing things if you don't want a black background. The icon*.xcf.zip files are recolored versions of the icon pack MusicMan posted in GIMP's .xcf format.

I've found the thread on disabling the cube. Disabling the cube works fine, but the files are still locked. I removed the 'archive' property from all of the files without any luck, and I have a good 90MB of free space to work with.

Re: Minimal Cube

1. Gimp has something called Script-Fu. I have no idea how to use it, I just know it exists. I'm sure Google might have some answers, or even gimp.org

2. If you Soft reset your phone the cube has not yet been called, so you can make changes to the cube then and see those changes when you bring up the cube for the first time. I haven't tried changing images then, but it might work?
