Having trouble with 1X/EVDO?

Since I've had my Touch, if the EV icon was displaying on top of the screen, I couldn't connect to the internet.....was having to wait until it switched to 1X.............if you're having a similar issue, *2, Technical Support, PDA........did that this morning and they had to re-provision my account/phone..........everything is fine now.

I have the same problem, but it is from living on the edge of EVDO coverage. My EVDO signal is -100db (0-1 bar) and my 1X is -66db (full bars). Sprint needs to hurry it up and finish install EVDO in my area. :)

mine still shows "failed authentication" when I look at the debug screen for hdv, do I need to call Sprint again?

pjrey 01-15-2008 10:36 PM

i had this problem as well... re-provisioning didnt work.. i called customer support, and she walked me through.... #data#... then edit... and she had me erase my vision info... reset it... it powered down... and that was that... up and running no problem now...
i kept getting 67 reg error, and 1012 errors... what she did, fixed it...
all is well now (i had to call 4 times.. the first three didnt have a clue what to do... they kept re-provisioning.. and telling me it would take 4 hours... as soon as i would hang up, it would say, re-provisioning... and still not work...)

ycats 01-16-2008 10:24 AM

when you do ##debug#, then debug HDV info, at the bottom right, does it still show "failed authentication"?

pjrey 01-16-2008 07:05 PM

when i do a ##debus, it it says authenticated...
you need to do a ##3282#, enter unlock code and have your HDR reset... it will populate automatically upon reboot...
that fixed it for me... reprovisioning the first 3 times (i told them it wasnt working, didnt stop them) did nothing...

pj

ycats 01-16-2008 09:12 PM

how exactly?

pjrey 01-17-2008 01:37 AM

1 Attachment(s)
you need to get your MSL number...
use this (attachment) or call sprint
p

ycats 01-17-2008 09:27 AM

I have that, I want to know how you reset the HDR.

pjrey 01-17-2008 10:15 AM

i don't remember very well, what i do is...
##data#
Edit
then clicking on MENU, and this is where it gets fuzzy... hitting clear all vision ino??? or clear... i forget...
but it clears it all, and then without warning, restarts your phone...
if you have your MSL number, go where i said, it should become very clear....

pj

ycats 01-17-2008 10:19 AM

only option I see is, after Edit, the bottom right has "menu", then Edit.......Restore.......Cancel

pjrey 01-17-2008 10:23 AM

hit edit, does that allow you to wipe everything?
i think it will... it will give you some warning first.. just say OK

pj

ycats 01-17-2008 11:06 AM

Edit doesn't do anything.........it's in Edit mode when I get to that page, the other options are to Cancel or Restore.

ycats 01-17-2008 11:07 AM

well, I can highlight an item and edit, but I don't know if there's anything in particular that needs to be changed.

pjrey 01-17-2008 11:22 AM

try restore...
pj

ycats 01-17-2008 11:25 AM

Did that, and rebooted. It still shows AN/AAA authentication, 2=Failed Authentication.

Lord Bricks 01-17-2008 12:26 PM

i too could not find the hdr reset option. does anyone have any other ideas? tia!

Lord Bricks 01-17-2008 02:19 PM

i fixed this by calling customer service and asking them to provision my phone. i then turned the phone off for 5 mins and voila! i now have evdo

ycats 01-17-2008 02:42 PM

do ##debug#, then hit debug info, HDR, what does the last line show?

Lord Bricks 01-17-2008 02:54 PM

1=authenticated, prior to calling CS it was 2= authentication failed
funny thing is i didnt do anything to the phone other than turn it off for 5 mins and turn it back on, i guess they "pushed" the provisioning.

Mine worked fine throughout November while I had the $25/mo Premium Power Vision Pack. In December a couple things changed, I switched to $15/mo Basic Access Vision Pack and traveled for the holidays to Houston, where and when this exact same Ev-1X trouble began and hasn't quit since. Though Houston doesn't yet have Rev.A, the Ev would show but not work. Back home now in South Florida, where Ev worked fine before, I'm only able to connect via 1X, and must end Internet connectivity when Ev shows (to speed up the wait for 1X to kick in).

One of the things I stumbled upon while trying to figure out a fix is...
Initiate custom NAI entry to device (Client-Initiated IOTA)
This is followed by a "Start" button, which I'm too chicken to tap. One way to get there is:
Start > Settings > Personal (default tab) > Phone > Services (tab) > Internet > Get Settings

Anybody tried this, or know what it's all about? More importantly, any fix info for Ev-1X problem is muchly appreciated.

ycats 01-17-2008 04:01 PM

that just re-provisions for what is already set up

pjrey 01-17-2008 04:08 PM

ycats...
did that work for you, the ##data# restore?
i was having the same problem as everyone was describing... nothing worked, i hit the START button, i had my phone re-provisioned... it would only connect at 1X... after the # data, all was well, instantly...
pj

Lord Bricks 01-17-2008 04:27 PM

IOTA just sends the info on your phone to the provisioning server not the other way around, i wish i knew the technical explanation on what CS did when i asked them to provision my phone

pjrey 01-17-2008 08:03 PM

it is likely in need of provisioning... if that doesnt do it, surely the data, restore would... try those two, if that doesnt do it... i have no idea what would...

I've had my Touch (Vogue) for a bit over a week and the EVDO has never worked. I finally called into Sprint CS after reading this thread and dealt with their Tech guys. After 1.5 hours and 4 techs, a supervisor from Tier III tech support (their highest, that I am aware of) informed me that my phone is defective, they cannot fix it, and I should take it to a Sprint store for a immediate replacement. We tried several tweaks in the ##DATA# menu, reprovisioning, soft and hard resets, and they attempted several things on the network side to get it to take. No dice. So I guess I will go grab a new Touch tomorrow. Good thing I haven't spent a ton of time customizing stuff...

Anyhow, just thought you all might like to know. ](*,)

Just wanna say "Thanks" to ycat, pjrey, & Lord Bricks for the info in this thread. Finally, Internet at Sprint speed! It required a server side change to my account permissions, a little over an hour on phone calls, and 4 tech support people. My guess is that they had blocked my Ev-DO permission when I dumped the $25/mo pack for the $15.

Lord Bricks 01-18-2008 02:45 PM

my second line on my account started having issues and this time i simply logged onto my sprint account, went to settings and passwords, changed my vision user name, turned off my phone for at least 5 minutes and when i turned it on it initiated data provisioning on its own and all is well. second line is a touch also.

mine connects EV, even shows that on the top of the screen..............but my issue is when I want to go online, I have to wait until it switches to 1X.......when in EV mode, it should go right to the internet when I choose.

Just because you see the "Ev" indicator in the connection status area, this does not necessarily mean you have an Ev-DO data connection. According to Sprint's Getting Started Guide on page 17, or HTC's User Manual on page 13, the Ev indicator simply means Ev-DO is available. And if the signal strength indicator to the right of it shows at least a couple bars, it means you could make an Ev-DO connection IF your onboard modem AND the server's modem allow it. In my case the server would not allow it until a techie changed my account permissions on the server side.

ycats 01-18-2008 11:10 PM

called Sprint again, had to get an upgrade of my vision pack.........all is well.
