Oh %&*% help!

i think my Touch just crashed. It won't power up unless I remove the batter for a few seconds. Once I place it back in, it powers up, but only to the windows mobile start up screen then alarm notification noises and start up screen sounds go haywire then it shuts off again. I would have to go through the same process to get it to start to that screen only.

What should I do???

tsowen 01-07-2008 01:49 PM

Hrm, I don't think you can manually hard reset it but you can try, when it powers on hold down the send and end key at the same time, continue to hold down the buttons until you see a screen pop-up asking you to hard reset it. Did you do any modifications to, drop it?

tom_brady 01-07-2008 02:22 PM

i did some reg tweaks but the usual, like increase ringer volume, speeding up the touchflow...i think a total of 3-4 reg tweaks recommened here by ppcgeeks. i did a hard reset and it went to the beginning where i have to touch my screen to get it functioning straight, then it shuts off again.

what now?

Are you sure you have a good charge. Try pluging it into the charger and see if it boots.

I'm incline to agree with Polen if you did a hard reset and the align screen came up and then it shut off, your battery might be the problem. If not I would give Sprint tech help a call or take it into a local Sprint store.

Sprint stores are usually great for these issues, If its easy to duplicate infront of them, They will probably have a spare HTC Touch battery laying around to try swapping it out with.

i charged it over night and i havent used it this morning yet but i will give this a shot and report back.

divxrippimp 01-07-2008 04:06 PM

Id just hardreset while plugged in...
hold both phone keys and click the soft reset switch at the same time...
a screen will appear asking you to restore....

tom_brady 01-07-2008 04:51 PM

ok, i charged it for a bit using a blackberry charger (same plugin). it turns on and seem to be owrking fine. however, i took it to a sprint store and they said it was a battery problem and asked me if i wanted to buy a battery for $35.00. i am sure i can get it cheaper online if i look around though so i think i wil take that route. any recommendation of places i can search for a new factory battery?

divxrippimp 01-07-2008 04:54 PM

Dude, EFFF that... how long have you had the phone, that battery should be under warranty for sure, if not sprint, then the htc warranty...

tom_brady 01-07-2008 05:03 PM

yea, i called sprint about that but i have had my phone for morethan 30 days and they wouldnt allow me to add on insurance after purchase ( i didn't know that). i also called htc and they said that i could send the phone in, they'll check it out and see what they can do and send it back. they don't give replacements??

I agree even if you have had the phone for more than 30 days, Sprint can send you another one for free its a matter of talking to the right department. When you call Sprint get the retention department, they seem to get things done verses going through customer service. Convince them how annoyed you are at the fact that this is a new phone and the battery has went out already that you would expect for the price you paid for the phone that a battery would last more than 30 days. Something along these lines should work. I ran into the same problem with my first PDA I didn't know about insurance and nobody had ever offered it or mentioned it to me. So around the 45th day my phone went crazy on its own, no mods or hacks to it either. I called Sprint they told me I didn't have insurance so I explained to them I never knew about it or was offered it to me so the lady put me on hold talked to her Supervisor and boom, got a new phone in the mail and insurance added to my plan.

good plan. i agree with you, retentions seem to get it done.
they always seem to heckle me when i try to tell them to transfer me to retentions dept. i agree with you, retentions seem to get it done. i think i will try that in a bit while my phone is charger. do u have the rententions dept phone #?

tsowen 01-07-2008 05:49 PM

No I just dial *2 from the phone then the voice automated thing comes on and ask me for a department and I say retention, or you can go through the automated one where you press the keys, I think its 4, then 2 and 2 to cancel service that will get you there. If not and an operator comes on just say you were working with the retention department and the call dropped can you please transfer me back.

tom_brady 01-07-2008 06:11 PM

ok, i called retentions and told them i wanted to cancel. they are now shipping a new phone out to me and she said it will take 3-5 business days. my account will be charged the full price until i send my defect back. when they receive the defect, i will be credited for the full amount.

gosh i wish this phone will arrive by tomorrow. i need it!

tsowen 01-07-2008 06:14 PM

Good deal, did you mention the Insurance?

tom_brady 01-07-2008 06:51 PM

aw &*(^% i forgot!

tom_brady 01-07-2008 06:53 PM

oh yea, i have a question. i am looking to buy some memory. can any micro sd card work?

Killabee44 01-07-2008 07:50 PM

Tom,

Any microsd will work. Amazon has some good deals on 4gb ones.

When you get the new phone, make sure you photocopy the fed ex label that you will be using to send the bad one back. Also, make sure you get a receipt from fed ex for the package that you are sending back.

When Sprint swapped my Mogul for a Touch, I forgot to ask for a receipt for the package at the Fed Ex location. I figured that Sprint had the tracking number since they provided the label. Well, a month and a half later I had not yet received credit and they did not have a tracking number to find out who signed for it at the Sprint returns department. Finally they did give me credit but it took hours on the phone. All of a sudden they "found" it. lol..

Get a receipt to avoid headaches later...

good deal killabee44. 1 more thing, i want to tweak my ringer volume to be louder. i remember reading it somewhere on here but i can't find it for the touch anymore. any ideas ofwhere it might be? i looked on the reg tweak threads but IniVol # is already on 5 so i guess i can't tweak it. i don't think that is right?
