Dark Spot on Screen
Quick background, I had my touch for about 2 weeks now after i traded in my mogul for the second time on the 30th day of my new sprint contract. But instead of getting another mogul again, because of all the problems i was having, i got the touch instead. They told me i would no longer be able to exchange my phone unless i went through insurance, but i have been very happy with the touch.
Then two days ago i notice a dark spot sightly off center to the left on my lcd screen... Its about the size of a small pea and gets darker as you press on the screen, Will it get worse?? What are my options??... and has anyone else had this problem?? Thx Guys |
I had the same thing happen to my touch. It happens when you put to much pressure on the screen I think. I had three dark spots that wouldn't go away because I left mine in my pocket with my keys. I was able to trade mine in at the Sprint store for a new one.
|
I don't advise this...But I've had a screen or 2 in the past with a similar issue. It's hard to explain but you can almost massage the dark spot out. I would say run your thumb up and down the screen with slightly-more-than-normal pressure a shit load of times. Eventually, if done right, the screen should clear up some.
|
Do you think they will exchange it with out going through insurance even though they said they wouldn't?
|
if its a dead pixel, theres videos that might be able to fix them.. .as crazy as that sounds google it up.
|
I sent mine back to UTSTARCOM for warranty replacement/repair. I will post back if they replace, repair, or send it back to me with a "tough shit" note.
|
I have this issue too. I have massaged it, but it still hasn't helped. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? (other than get a replacement or live with it)
|
i do experience the wave when pressing on my screen, i dont even notice it unless i am looking for it.
the dark spot seems to be a consequence of usage. |
Mine had the same issue. Dark spot right in the middle of the screen. I took it to my Sprint store (had it for at least 3+ months) and they replaced it right there in store. Guy gave me everything off the old phone too, the back case, the battery, the SD card, the case, as well as the box for the new phone and everything in it :headbang:

I ended up going to the Sprint store last night. I showed them the phone and they took it in the back for the tech to see if there was any water damage and attempt to fix it. I knew they wouldn't be able to fix it. After about 10 mins, the tech came out and said that he couldnt fix it and ordered new phone. The whole process was painless and didnt cost me a penny. Best of all, I still have my old phone and will swap it when the new phone arrives tomorrow.
|
how obvious was your dark spot? mine is on the lower/center of the screen and only really noticeable on a white background.
|
i have 2 now.. started as one then the second appeared.. when i press the screen in makes the screen colors warp around the dark spots.. it sucks

Re: Dark Spot on Screen
Had this issue soon after I got my phone. I got it replaced immediately and haven't had the same issue for the past 3 months so far.

Re: Dark Spot on Screen
Update- When I went to get the replacement phone, I received a brand new unit with all of the accessories. Thats pretty cool because I only exchanged my phone (w/o any accessories). I also was able to talk the manager into keeping my old battery! I'm really diggin' Sprint right now.

Re: Dark Spot on Screen
Mine did it from day one. Took it back and exchanged it.
|
Re: Dark Spot on Screen
Well, I'm phone my second Touch with spots now... I hope Sprint will exchange it again... I've only had it for a month.
Fairly poor manufacturing... |
Re: Dark Spot on Screen
I just started noticing a darkspot on my touch. You can barely see it on a white background but I can only imagine it will get worse. It is located slighly left of the center. I took it to the Sprint store and they said I have to take it to another TECH Sprint store. So when I get some time I'll have to do this . I'll keep you guys posted.

Re: Dark Spot on Screen
WOW- after only 2 weeks, I have another, larger dark spot on the screen of my new phone! This is bull****. I can't believe that the screens of these phones are made so poorly. I wish there were a nicer PPCphone available for sprint (eg. kaiser) because I would just complain and swap phones. I'm not going back to the mogul so I guess I will have to get it replaced.

Re: Dark Spot on Screen
this might sound strange, but are any of you guys that experience this issue tossing your phone in your pocket with keys or change?
i'm thinking the dark spots develop due to uneven pressure on the screen |

Re: Dark Spot on Screen
well, i ask because i also keep mine in my pocket, not a single problem here.. yet...
i know this is a little off topic, but: i'm still on my 30 day testdrive. i'm debating wether or not it will be worth paying the extra $7/month for the insurance. my question to you guys: if you have a defective phone while on the coverage, will they set you up with a new phone or a refurb? also, if the phone is lost/stolen, will i need to fill out a police report, and will they deduct more than the 50 bucks if the phone isnt recovered?(as stated in their fine print) can anyone vouch when the extra coverage has come in handy for their device? |
Re: Dark Spot on Screen
Well, when I exchanged my phone, I received a brand new unit and was told that there aren't any refurbs available since the phone is still fairly new. With all of the screen issues, I would def recommend that you get the $7 insurance. I think that you have to file a police report if the phone is lost/tolen, but I'm not 100% sure.

Re: Dark Spot on Screen
I tip a learned after having several phones replaced, make sure the screen is facing your leg when in your pocket. Very Small impacts to the screen can cause the dark spots.

Re: Dark Spot on Screen
for those that received new Touch replacements:
did you have to have the Sprint Insurance? or do they replace it without the insurance? please specify your circumstance. thanks! |
Re: Dark Spot on Screen
Had my Touch replaced a few weeks ago due to being stuck in the align screen page(Happend on 2 apaches.) I have TEP so they replaced it for free. However, they gave me a refurb! Looked new at first, but I later noticed it has a dark spot about the size of a fingertip in the middle left of the screen. Very annoying, especially when watching video. I will be taking it back for a replacement ,again, but may wait untill the Diamond or Pro comes out. Although HIGHLY unlikely that I will get it replaced with one of those. Wasn't there some clause that if you had a phone replaced several times for similar problems that you could request a different phone???

Re: Dark Spot on Screen
Don't believe for a minute that the only cause is user abuse.
I had the same issue with my first Touch. They replaced it 6 months after I received it. Although I have insurance, they replaced it as defective. There was no deductible involved. Some additional info on the Mura effect: http://myhdtvchoice.com/2008/03/29/w...ouding-effect/ |
Re: Dark Spot on Screen
I had a similar problem. mine was more of a black streak. sprint gave me a new touch for 55$ no ?a asked. they didnt even make me take phone to sprint store. goodluck

Re: Dark Spot on Screen
I have a white spot that is only seen on the black screen after a soft reset. After that you can't see it anymore. My other Touch doesn't do it.
Should I get it rplaced? It's a weed old, but was just turned on Sunday. |
Re: Dark Spot on Screen
Its not going to go away, it was on all 4 Titans I've had, and it is already on my Vogue. I'm sure the new one will do the same thing. Your going to have to get used to it or trade for a different phone.
