Re: Anyone use microSD Wifi on Touch?
honestly a micro sd wifi.... even if it works how good of a connection will it be unless you have a seperate antenna for it? It cant take advantage of any built in antenna so the antenna would be what... a centimeter long maybe 2?

Re: Anyone use microSD Wifi on Touch?
If it sticks out where you cant place the cover back on it will be of minimal value. Of course you can not use flash with it so it would have to be swapped out when you need your flash. Can the usb port not be used for a wifi antenae? That seems to me to be the most logical answer to this need.
if you want wifi hold off on the touch. does the diamond have wifi? |
Re: Anyone use microSD Wifi on Touch?
The usb is an interesting option. Do people have drivers, though?

Re: Anyone use microSD Wifi on Touch?
that was my earlier fishing for wifii. have not found a dongle (if that is right term) to plug into the usb port. but now that you mention it, it seems simple if the drivers could be created. thats above my pay grade but maybe a nice project for the techies. seems simple to plug in a wifi usb antenae to the phone (using adaptors that are easy to find) and then having wifi through the usb. saw a thread some time ago here or on xda that looked at the circuitry of the usb and from my recollection there may be weakness in the usb circuitry that will disallow this. still its one of my peaves with this phone. free wifi is god given right.

Re: Anyone use microSD Wifi on Touch?
I dont have the link on-hand, but a Taiwanese company makes a nifty MicroSD -> SD card adapter dongle. There's a distributor in North America and I managed to get my hands on one (its like $25-$35). So far I've been sucessfull reading a full size SD card on the MicroSD slot, now all I need is a full size SDIO WiFi card to test it :)

Re: Anyone use microSD Wifi on Touch?
I assume you read the sd card with the back cover off?

Re: Anyone use microSD Wifi on Touch?
Nope, the dongle ribbon cable is thin enough to squeeze between the side cover. Its thin as a piece of paper. Still havent found an SDIO Wifi card I could test yet though...
You can get these through the North American distributor at http://www.ameri-rack.com (just send the sales an email for the PA-TFC1 adapter). Costs $29.35 + $2.50 shipping to Canada. http://www.ably.com.tw/pdt/pics/file...1822124114.jpg |
