Re: SD card corrupt?

This always happens when the PPC tries to write to the card while asleep. There are tons of reasons, so you have to be careful:

Ringtones/attachments on card
WMP open while phone is off and last song played is on card (or library open)
Programs stored on card still running when off.
Live Search running (or a similar program that stores cache to card

I never install programs to my card, and download attachments is always UNchecked, and I use task manager often to close all my apps. I suggest the same, but I have few programs on my phone.

If you are one who likes a ton of programs and don't have the storage space on the device, then I strongly suggest closing all apps when you are done using them. And increase the auto-standby time

I would just like to say that this is %100 correct, and fixed all my problems. Save yourselves some headaches and follow the above advise

Re: SD card corrupt?

oh, also make sure there are no today plugins displaying free space on the card, as they will be accessing the card on suspend as well

Re: SD card corrupt?

I haven't had this problem for awhile. The other day my phone locked up while checking e-mail (ok it got slow and I reset it). I noticed about 20 mins later nothing showed up on my SD card (execpt garbage). So I soft reset again and it all showed back up again. This is the third time that has happened since November. So soft reset has cured mine the last three times.

Re: SD card corrupt?

HAHA! Funny.... I had this problem like 3 days ago. Card just stopped working. I wanted to listen to my mp3 and my songs were gone. Matter of fact.. the whole card was not recognized. I tried everything and nothing worked. So i did a little test.. I used a voltmeter to see if there was any ohm draw from the circuitry. I have 2 cards.. a working one and this failed one. So anyways... i checked all 10 pins on the card and noticed all the pins have a draw of either 7. to .8 on some pins to 25.00 to 27.00 ohms draw on others. And on the dead card , some pins would not have any ohms draw on them. Leading me to believe that the circuit had a break somewhere. And only way a circuit gets a break is a faulty card with a weak bridge somewhere or a fluctuation voltage leading to the circuit break on the memory card. And since we are all having corrupt data... it makes me think its a voltage problem on the Touch its self. thats not good at all. I hope HTC has a software fix cuz if they dont we are screwed since only way to fix it is to have the motherboard fixed itself. Ohh ohh....

Re: SD card corrupt?

BTW.... anyone know whats a reasonable price for a new 4gig? I seen prices from 16 dollar4s to 29.99. What brand would be good for the Touch that has been proven t work? Ohh.. and where would one go for good shopping?

Re: SD card corrupt?

Unproven but promising potential fix for corrupt SD cards.

I'm quoting below incase link breaks or someone uses search

It was for the HTC Hermes, but the registry entries are found on the Touch as well, so I tried it out:

[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
"PNPUnloadDelay" = dword:8196
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
"PNPWaitIODelay" = dword:8196

Re: SD card corrupt?

I have a 6 GB Sandisk and I had it go funny numerous times and a reset or removing and re-seating the card always fixed it until one day last week when it got all screwed up and no amount of resetting or re-seating would fix it. I had to reformat it (some files were saved before I took this action). It formatted up fine and is working OK so far. I have seen this issue posted on numerous threads here and elsewhere, so it seems to be a common problem. I cannot figure out a cause although I am suspicious it may have something to do with the fact that I store my mail on the card. I will be careful to copy the contents of the card to my computer more often to avoid the loss of important files.

Re: SD card corrupt?

I just installed the ArtemisSDEnhancement.CAB cab (but not the registry changes..) - will report back if I get a corrupted SD while using it. (I typically get one every other day or so..)
-mark
btw - I should mention - my card was corrupted bad enough to require a format (didn't recover from a reboot) - so I'm not freshly formatted, with this cab..
