I know it's been a while, but I don't think anyone ever answered. Short answer it's decimal.

This is the number of connections that are allowed to be made for a web page in IE (its also used by the foundation classes). Think of it like this, you load a web page that has 30 images on it. Each one of those images (style sheets, java script files, etc) all need a separate connection to download. The default used to be 2, meaning you would download two images, then two more, then two more... and so on. They changed the default value over the years to 4... whooo hoo, now you download 4 at a time. Changing this value to 10 (decimal) means you can download 10 items at once from the same site. So a site that has 30 images would download in about 3 sets instead of 7-8 with a setting of 4.

Thanks,

This value is actually a hexadecimal value. The "dword" tells your registry that this is a DoubleWord which is Hex. The value above is equivalent to 16 in decimal which we all understand...

dword:00000010 = 16 Check it out with PHM Regedit, enter the value, then switch between Decimal and Hex.

Edit: Probably an easy way to tell is...

If you see a edit with brackets around the key like:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Example]
"GPSMode"=dword:14

This is gonna be in HEX (Usually copied from inside a ROM)

If you see an edit without the brackets like:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Example
GPSMode=14

Then this value is most likely decimal...

Re: Registry Tweaks/Hacks/Edits - Share them here!

Ok, I guess my point was it doesn't really matter. If you want it to be 10 enter it as decimal, if you want it to be 16 enter it as Hex

The problem is that most registry editors allow you to enter a DWORD as either Hex or Decimal and unless there are Hex letters in it it is difficult to tell which is which if it isn't specified. I guess, another rule of thumb would be if it has leading zeros it is probably meant to be in Hex.

So, always specify decimal or hex, if it really matters

And of course if the value is 0-9 it really REALLY doesn't matter.

And a 10 is a 10 is 10 in Decimal but in Hex a 10 is 16!!

And If only DEAD people understand hexadecimal, how many people understand hexadecimal?

Answer:
In decimal.. 0.
In hex ... 57005

Same location - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
New key - Navigation
New dword - 4-Way Nav
Set for 0

I have negamanns 20270C ROM from PPCkitchen. The key and dword were in there but set to 1 which I assume goes link by link in IE. Setting to 0 pages the screen with the 4 way nav.

try it let me know what you find...works for me
The only bad thing about this edit is when opening emails,texts it goes to the middle of the email or text and you have to scroll up to the beginning of the message. I personally changed it back.

Re: Registry Tweaks/Hacks/Edits - Share them here!

has anyone ever found where resco registration keys are saved in the registry? It's one of the few programs that I have to manually add in the registration key everytime I flash a new rom.

Change your DNS server to OpenDNS

Do at your own risk, in the first hack you would normally delete the HTC_CM_Guardian.lnk from the Startup folder so HTC_CM_Guardian.exe won't start. Normally upon startup it will start and change back your DNS settings that we are going to change. HTC_CM_Guardian.exe sets your internet settings back to Sprints settings constantly. It starts everytime the Touch starts.

I couldn't find the HTC_CM_Guardian.lnk startup link in the \windows\startup folder on my Touch as it is on the Mogul so the Touch is starting the
HTC_CM_Guardian.exe from somewhere else, upon startup.

So since I couldn't stop it from starting I had to overwrite it with a inert file.

We are first going to copy the original HTC_CM_Guardian.exe file from \device\windows to a safe place for future use if ever needed. If you ever have trouble just copy the original back to \device\windows and soft reset or just execute it from wherever you saved it.

Next we are going to take a small inert file on our device and rename it to HTC_CM_Guardian.exe and then move it to the \device\windows folder on our touch and confirm overwrite (use Resco or similar to overwrite) so the real HTC_cm_guardian won't start.

Soft reset

Now for the actual settings change to Speed up browsing with OpenDNS:

Go to Start>Settings>Connections>Manage existing connections

Select SprintPCS, then Edit...

Hit Next and Next again, then click Advanced...

Under Servers tab select Use specific server address

Enter the following:

DNS: 208.67.222.222

Alt DNS: 208.67.220.220

Hit OK then Finish

Soft reset

When you first reconnect to the internet it will ask you for name\pass......well just leave the name and pass blank and check the box to remember.

Next are a few other Edits that I got from another website and they seem to have made a very noticeable difference, without any side effects for me.
The first ones are just changed values and then the others you create an entry, just "create a new DWORD value"

HKLM\Comm\Tcpip\Parms\
TcpMaxConnectRetransmissions = dword: 6
TcpWindowSize = dword: 256960

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings
MaxConnectionsPerServer = dword: 00000010

Create the following DWORD value in this directory (the 0 in "0server" is a number)

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = dword: 00000020

In the following directory create all 3 DWORD values

HKLM\Comm\Tcpip\Parms\
Tcp1323Opts = dword: 1 (O before pts is the capital letter o)
TcpMaxDupAcks = dword: 2
EnablePMTUDiscovery = dword: 1

My Internet is sooooooooooo Frickin Fast now, really

I have included a "fake" HTC_CM_Guardian file to put on your phone in the windows file, it's just the PPST.dll file from Getspc renamed.
Ok i did this and i keep getting a pop up that says HTC_CM_GAURDIAN is not a valid ppocket pc application and it shows it everytime i soft reset i copied back the htc file to windows and it said the same thing after a soft rest also when i went to overwrite the htc file it said not enough memory space and that it cant do it. What am i doing wroung i really dont understand when you say create a inert file i downlaoded the one you provided. HELP lol
