Just thought I'd update on the battery tweak I picked on one of the earlier pages. I've been running my phone for a few days now doing normal stuff that I do daily for my job and I have to say that I haven't noticed any difference between how the battery is now and how it was before. I did use all three registry edits that were mentioned on that post but if there's something else that'll help to increase the battery life I'm all for it.

Just for the record I have a bluetooth earpiece synced to the phone all day while I'm working and I've got PIE running in the background so I can bring it up when I need to update my open calls and such. I do not have my e-mail linked to my phone. Today I made 4 calls and the longest one lasted about 10 minutes so I don't think its anything I've got running on my phone. If anyones got suggestions I'm all for it.

I would also like to know the edit you need to get more weather cities. thanks.
I finally gave up on that notion as well. I tried playing with the weather registry entries and I wasn't able to add any additonal cities. In the end I downloaded SPB Weather from http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/weather/?en. So far its only the 15 day trial software on my phone but I plan on getting the registered version. Its actually a very nice plugin and goes quite well with SPB Plus. I have to thank this site for pointing out that software to me.

I assume this is for htc home right? If so this is an easy fix. Get htc home customizer first. Then you have to download two more files. SDKcerts and VogueHTCHomedll. You can get the last two here http://weather.not2advanced.com/files/. Home customizer can be found with a search. This worked for me, just tried it last night.

Note: Just download the pre-patched HTC Home 2.1 cab from that same website then use HTC Home customizer (http://www.pocketemu.com/news.html) And then use HHC to edit the default custom city to yours, Or make a new custom city...

(Side note, Pocketemu is the homesite of the HHC, so keep current there to catch updates!)

Change your DNS server to OpenDNS

Do at your own risk, in the first hack you would normally delete the HTC_CM_Guardian.lnk from the Startup folder so HTC_CM_Guardian.exe won't start. Normally upon startup it will start and change back your DNS settings that we are going to change. HTC_CM_Guardian.exe sets your internet settings back to Sprints settings constantly. It starts everytime the Touch starts.

I couldn't find the HTC_CM_Guardian.lnk startup link in the \windows\startup folder on my Touch as it is on the Mogul so the Touch is starting the
HTC_CM_Guardian.exe from somewhere else, upon startup.

So since I couldn't stop it from starting I had to overwrite it with a inert file.

We are first going to copy the original HTC_CM_Guardian.exe file from \device\windows to a safe place for future use if ever needed. If you ever have trouble just copy the original back to \device\windows and soft reset or just execute it from wherever you saved it.

Next we are going to take a small inert file on our device and rename it to HTC_CM_Guardian.exe and then move it to the \device\windows folder on our touch and confirm overwrite (use Resco or similar to overwrite) so the real HTC_cm_guardian won't start.

Soft reset

Now for the actual settings change to Speed up browsing with OpenDNS:

Go to Start>Settings>Connections>Manage existing connections

Select SprintPCS, then Edit...

Hit Next and Next again, then click Advanced...

Under Servers tab select Use specific server address

Enter the following:

DNS: 208.67.222.222

Alt DNS: 208.67.220.220

Hit OK then Finish

Soft reset

When you first reconnect to the internet it will ask you for name\pass......well just leave the name and pass blank and check the box to remember.

Next are a few other Edits that I got from another website and they seem to have made a very noticeable difference, without any side effects for me.
The first ones are just changed values and then the others you create an entry, just "create a new DWORD value"

HKLM\Comm\Tcpip\Parms\
TcpMaxConnectRetransmissions = dword: 6
TcpWindowSize = dword: 256960

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings
MaxConnectionsPerServer = dword: 00000010

Create the following DWORD value in this directory (the 0 in "0server" is a number)

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = dword: 00000020

In the following directory create all 3 DWORD values

HKLM\Comm\Tcpip\Parms\
Tcp1323Opts = dword: 1 (O before pts is the capital letter o)
TcpMaxDupAcks = dword: 2
EnablePMTUDiscovery = dword: 1

My Internet is sooooooooooo Frickin Fast now, really :D

I have included a "fake" HTC_CM_Guardian file to put on your phone in the windows file, it's just the PPST.dll file from Getspc renamed.

Is there anyway Sprint can charge you for this?

pjrey 01-17-2008 10:22 AM

i think sprint will only start paying attention if the download/upload bandwitdth starts to get high... so, as long as you stay under the radar... no... if you go over, they may pull your vision? warn you? i dont know...

QUESTION FOR ALL:
how can i change, under the RINGER TAB, there is ringer, silent, vib, and schedule... i want to change schedule to LOUD... (for home settings)
anyone know a way?
thanks
pj

How much bandwith a month would it take for them to notice you?

Whosdaman 01-17-2008 06:33 PM

What are the best battery hacks for the Vogue? My battery barely last 6 hours when I use it all day....

after making these reg changes and performing a soft reset, all of the changes were in a separate/different folder. for example:
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server was under : HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings\5.0

any ideas/suggestions??
Thanks, Jim.
