Alltel service with no data plan

I Have a Verision 6900 that I unlocked and set up a with custom ppckitchen ROM on an Alltel network. I have no data plan through Alltel, and was wondering if I could set up the vogue to use airtime minutes instead of a data plan for minor weather, and internet browsing?

If not, can I set up internet sharing through my laptop, so that my phone can access the internet when connected through actisync, usb, or bluetooth?

ROM: 3.08.666.1
RADIO: 3.42.5
PRI: 2.01_011

Use mine for browsing without a data plan. You just need to make sure to go to the comm manager when you are done to switch the data connection to off. If you don't do that, you'll keep burning minutes, costing lots of money.

How do I do that? My phone dials *777 but will not connect.

As far as I know, you can't use calls/airtime minuites for a data connection from your device. When your device accesses data it basically calls the data server so your carrier keeps track of your usage in kb rather than minuites. If you find another data server that your device can call for free then maybe it might work. I seriously doubt it though.
I believe you can use the internet connection of your PC to access data for your device but I don't know how to do it.
I suggest you look at Sprint. Unlimited Data is $15 a month. Or I suggest switching to a low cost carrier like CricKet or MetroPCS. Those carriers have great prices and can be great if they have coverage in the area that you want to use your device in. Good Luck! :)

If you click on IE, it should open the data connection automatically. Browse then when you are done, go to the comm manager and shut down. Alltel is the one company that does its data in minutes when you dont have a plan (due to, I think, the whole Alltel Axcess thing for dumb phones. Alltel data cannot tell what type of data you are using.) Been doing this for a couple of years, first with my Moto Q and now with my Vogue. Has never shown any data usage, just minutes. Anytime use during week days, and of course nights and weekends become unlimited.

That's exactly what I want to do. How do I configure my phone for that purpose instead of dialing *777
