Re: Carrier Kitchen's & Roms - v1.4 ..... updated 9/28/08

In a decompiled rom, OEM's with an option.xml file get incorporated into the SYStem of the rom. The RGU registry entries, the initflashfiles.txt file, and then the option.xml file is discarded. Because of this they are placed in the SYS directory. The oem's that remain in the ..\OEM directory are ones without an option.xml file. It is much easier dealing with a package like I have provided than decompiling someone elses ROM. (except mine and that old_man_jenkins guy...I actually encourage it) [Rant=On] But say a ppckitchen rom, while it decompiles alright, it can't be reflashed. Hence some cooks use it to protect their work (that consists of all FREE components and almost always someone else's work). Then there are some chefs that add rom-protection so you can't look inside and see who's work they are using, but claim it as their own. There are two main reasons why I provided/created this thread. 1. To empower everyone to be able to build their own rom. 2. To help cut newbie dependancies on "Super Chefs" with that big... [Rant=Off] [Rant=Off] It's.... [Rant=Off] It's not... [Rant=Off] It's not woorr... [Rant=Off] It's not working... [Rant=Off] [Rant=Off] Help... [Rant=Off] Help me!!! ![]()

I agree its much easier looking through yours than others...just wanted to know if I could delete the OEMs in the SYS dir without any future mishaps when I go to flash a completed ROM. Im still looking at making one that is based on my preferences...Looking at removing Autoupdate, irda (dont know why thats in everyones rom considering the vogue doesnt do infared), SQM, Catalog, WindowsLive...and some stuff that is in the manila install - no reason for the enlarge start menu or the taskmanager since thats in the manila install. Youve actually inspired me to try and clean everything possible out of the rom.
Also, I notice you left transcriber in the rom, but you say you removed the stock keyboard, also see some leftover ldb files in OEMApps which I believed to be part of the keyboard...and an ezinputQ.dll |

Transcriber and other SIP's can be "deleted" by disabling them in the zzz_My_Registry_OEM's RGU file. Open it with Notepad and you'll see them, remove the ";" from the beginning of the line and change the value... Yep, a few leftover files...And i think that's because with that keyboard OEM, most roms prefer their original ezinputQ.dll???? ![]() I'm glad you've been inspired! ![]() |

Re: Carrier Kitchen's & Roms - v1.4 ..... updated 9/28/08
Well, I have been working on some stuff, and in following this guide here, I was looking at the initflashfiles.dat in OEM_Lang_0409 and noticed that a lot of the OEM packages are also in this...so Im thinking about removing that out just to be more complete on removing the stuff from the SYS folder...the guide I linked to has kept me busy this week LOL, moving stuff out and creating a backup so I can undo the removing of stuff. As I said, I know I dont post a lot of stuff Ive done or while in the process, but Im getting closer to releasing a ROM...hopefully get it done before the Touch Pro comes out...Oh BTW, my Vogue has a bad sector and I need some donations to replace it

![]() The OEM packages are in the initflashfiles.dat if you disassemble the rom using PrepIt.bat. If you download it, it's fairly clean. And NO-WAY...I should get a touch pro first so I can help de-bunk the problems. But my vogue is fine... ![]() There sure are alot of downloads for no questions. As you all have seen, I don't do topics that are already covered like not being able to flash this... This thread is open for questions...Or was I too thorough in the first two posts with the how to? ![]() |

Re: Carrier Kitchen's & Roms - v1.4 ..... updated 9/28/08
You are pretty thorough in your explanations, though I think a lot of the NEW cooks want the packages youve included (im not saying anything bad about that, but as Ive found, what is in a ROM is personal choice as Ive used all the current M2D Roms offered on here with the exception of OMJ, and I find that they dont suit my tastes, and right now, the diamond theme and M2D is what most peoples tastes include...but Im trying to learn as much as I can so when I get the Pro, I can make a rom for that also)...and beyond that, you also have a thread for OEM packages, so in the combination of both, it makes it very simple and with little questions to be asked.

Re: Carrier Kitchen's & Roms - v1.4 ..... updated 9/28/08
Just wondering if there was some stuff in your OEMs that MUST be in a ROM...I removed some stuff, but none of it stands out to cause my problem...It never asks for calibration and it comes up with a cprog.exe error. Im just asking because I am about to add everything back, and remove 1 by 1.

Re: Carrier Kitchen's & Roms - v1.4 ..... updated 9/28/08
not asking for the calibration is caused by this entry being absent in the initflashfiles.dat which was moved by me to the zzz_My_Start_Menu_OEM:
Directory("\Windows\StartUp"):-File("Welcome.lnk","\Windows\welcome.lnk") And here is the regkey that tells it what to run: ;Skip welcome except calibrate and timezone [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Welcome] "Disable"=dword:FFFFFFED But, yeah, there is some stuff that you must leave in.... ![]() |

Re: Carrier Kitchen's & Roms - v1.4 ..... updated 9/28/08
For those with the NBH packages, I have found a typo....
In ..\OEM\zzz_My_Registry_OEM RGU file Change: Code:
;Disable Account Picker in messaging [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setttings] "AcctPicker"=dword:0 to Code:
;Disable Account Picker in messaging [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings] "AcctPicker"=dword:0 ![]() |
