Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

I have tried about 3 different roms, and I noticed the same GPS locking times in all of them. The only thing that made a difference for me was PPST, which now allows my GPS to lock in within 30 seconds - 2 min max. However there is absolutely no way that holo is getting locks within 5 seconds. I can affirm this strongly, because I have seen professional GPS that are used in field expeditions at universities, and they themselves do not lock in within 5 seconds. There is only one way to achieve a 5 second lock, and that is by immediately after you achieve a lock, you turn off the GPS program, and 1 second later you turn it back on. That is not called a true lock. A true lock is achieved by: When you get your lock, turn off your GPS program completely, put your phone into sleep mode by pressing the power button. Four hours later, turn on your phone and run your GPS program, I guarantee that no one here will get a lock within 5 - 10 seconds, but in best case 25-30 seconds. When people claim they get 10-15 locks that is just pure BS, because there is no way a GPS module on a phone can triangulate 15 GPS satellites, to gather data. The radio in the phone simply does not allow for such high number of locks. Simply put, it doesn't matter how many locks you get, as long as you get above 2, the phone can still determine the position, but not as accurately. I have tried about all the methods of getting GPS to run and lock faster than 30 seconds-2 minutes. But sometimes it just varies on the phone and the hardware itself, and how quickly it sense the satellites. I know people here have professional GPS receivers, and they too can confirm that it is impossible to get a lock within 5 seconds. Whoever is claiming that they can get a lock within 5 seconds after having your phone in sleep for 4 hours is just BS.

Without doing 2>5, you will get damn annoying IOTA errors, but everything still works. Good Luck

So if I have already flashed the rom I want (running OMJ's sprint v2 rom) can I run the ppst file and then do the other steps? Will this reset everything? Also in regards to steps 4 and 5, is that an actual number that I call in my dialer? Would this be the same for bell mobility?

Cheers!

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

First thing, thank you all very much for these very helpful methods. The PPST.EXE seems to work but I have another problem that I haven't come across scouring the pages of this topic. I have the official Sprint rom that adds Opera, GPS and REV-A. I can't remember the the official release number but it ended with a .4 whereas the leak that was out ended with a .2
My problem is this. When I turn off the phone and turn it back on, or if it idles for a couple hours, my location setting turns off and I have to turn it back on SETTINGS/PHONE/LOCATION and the GPS works again.....SOMETIMES. I need to get this location setting to stay on before I try some other methods because I am fed up at this point. I have spent hours flashing and re-flashing to get my GPS to work SOMETIMES and my location turned off constantly. I have a registry editor. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks in advance.

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

sputnickkk - The reason you weren't getting the phone to do anything when you typed ##786 or ##786# is because you probably had a non-sprint oem or custom on your phone and it did not have the correct espt.espt file. I found this out several pages ago. The leaked sprint rom has the espt.espt file needed to access ##786 which gets you into a reverse logistics support screen. From there you need to menu-reset. It will ask for your code, which should be 000000.

I think that the menu-reset function restores the previously saved pri (1.37_002 for Verizon) which I think is saved when you ran ppst.exe, before it upgraded you to 2.33. This is all speculation based on what Ghetto says his did when he hit menu-reset.

If you can get that to work then check your pri version in device information. It should go back to 1.37_002.

Then you should be able to type *228 option 1 and then *228 option 2. Ghetto's steps indicate to type *22803 and then an option but I've never known Verizon to have a *22803 option. I think it may be that Telus uses *22803 and Verizon uses *228. I've tried to get someone to confirm that but no takers so far.

You may need a new a-key after all this but I would do this first.

I haven't loaded ppst yet. I'm itching to do it but I want to see what success you have
with this first. Good luck!

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

jspesp and Ghetto - thanks guys ...

Im currently - as per ghettos advice [or so I think] recommendation - Im on the Sprint leaked rom trying to do the reset .... will try the 000000

OK the 000000 worked - duoh!

Soft resetting is happening - will look into PRi settings here in a second.

Also - Ive never had a GPS lock ever so this should be interesting it if works

OK so should I RE Setup the device and soft reset before the sprint carrier customizations go off - as I suspect? Or ... ?

OK - I did not let the sprint customizations run on the reset.

Im still on the Sprint ROm as of this second and the Device info reads - Radio 3.37.15 / PRI Ver - 1.37_002 [PRI was 2.xxx something prior to the Sprint Leaked Flash and when I ran the PPST.exe as instructed on the OMJ Custom Verizon ROM I was on prior]

Not sure if that helps with anything.

Going to FLASH to OMJ ROM / Verizon and then try steps *228 Option 1 then 2 ... then we shall see.
