If the old DLL's are cooked into ROM you might have a hard time replacing them. Updating and fiddling with these DLL's is easiest on a Stock ROM (because they don't exist at all to start) that is GPS Capable like the infamous AllTel one. But you installed them in the first place you should be able to replace them. If you want to continue with a cooked ROM (JD and friends) I'd wait for them to release a ROM with all these new findings cooked in. There is also a CAB that might know how to overwrite the cooked in DLL's. |
Re: Updated GPS Drivers (Possible Fix For Standby Issues)
I loaded this and seems to work within a minute from where I work, but the real test would be going home tonight. It seems to take longer to lock around where I live.
It usually locks pretty fast where I work (within 3 min max) but it could take up 6 or so minutes where I live. |
Re: Updated GPS Drivers (Possible Fix For Standby Issues)
I did my test where I drive home from work ~30miles away with GPS off and then turn it on (warmstart) and see how long it takes. Today I fired up google earth and GPStest (great small program to use instead of holux or visualgps). Well it appears agps kicked in and got me within a quarter of a mile.. I waited..waited... then boom I was off in the South Atlantic :) Anyway I ended up waiting about 4 mins and got a lock. Not great but not too bad, especially since I was moving at the time, which makes it harder to lock.

Re: Updated GPS Drivers (Possible Fix For Standby Issues)
Just wanted to report that I'm getting a faster lock, and holding it in an area I had trouble with previously (work). A Hard reset to revert back to older drivers, then reinstalling them again verifies at least in my case it's not placebo.
One thing to note though I still have the suspend problem. |
Re: Updated GPS Drivers (Possible Fix For Standby Issues)
wow, how many times to have to say this... aGPS will get you with in a few yards, not a few blocks or miles or cities... plus there is ZERO lock time with aGPS... because there are no satellites to lock to...
I used to use telenav with agps on my sanyo 9000 (it had NO satellite GPS), and it worked great... way, way way way wayway better then a few blocks. what your MUST be getting 1 or 2 satellites locking and giving you an inaccurate position. try GPS on a phone with no REAL gps, and ONLY AGPS... arrrgh... the 6900, even with the GPSMODE=4 hack DOES NOT GIVE YOU AGPS. it may help you lock on faster, but aGPS it does not.... /rantoff |

Re: Updated GPS Drivers (Possible Fix For Standby Issues)
Hello everybodyyyy,
Sorry I'm getting a little confused about all the gps threads, I think I've found the right one. I posted in another thread about wether or not I could use the gpsenable/kickstart cab that has the alltel stuff in it (even tho my touch is for bell). Any ideas on that? Also I just tried to manually install the dlls but couldn't because of permission errors. I then tried to rename (according to the above post) but couldn't. Couldn't delete them either. If I run the cab will it replace these files or do I need to manually get rid of them? thank you all, so close to having my gps work consistently (I thought I had it but I was messing around and now it doesnt work, booo) cheers |

What ROM you using? Did YOU install the orginal DLL's or was it included in a Custom ROM you used? If it's in a Custom ROM, and you like that ROM, my advice is wait for the ROM to be updated. Or discuss it in your ROM's Thread. You'll get the best advice their. There is also a Thread for Customizing Custom ROM's not sure it will help http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25529 If you installed them and you tried to use the built in File Explorer to rename them then that might be the issue. Use Resco File Explorer or Total Commander (Free) to copy them on top. I think you can copy on top with Total Commander or Resco even if it's a Custom ROM. The CAB may install fine too. The need for Kickstart is also very confusing and Depends on your ROM. There is a manual procedure you can do to remove Security (which some folks don't want to do or can't). Step 6 in this thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=24925 is the procedure. But this Procedure May or May not be done on a Custom ROM you used. The instructions were for a Stock Altell ROM. If you choose a ROM that does not have this done and you choose to not do it then you have to start DLL's manually OR use Kickstart. That all said, I'm not sure any DLL needs to be "started" with new DLL's. The only DLL that used to need starting is GPSDaemonServer.DLL and I never start it and set it using MemMaid to not even try to start it. Even though I can run unsigned drivers this DLL no longer Autostarts. Which I think might be a GOOD THING. Because I don't need it and my GPS is NOT hanging. Maybe running it (Auto Unsigned or With Kickstart) is part of the Hang Problem. |
