What's odd is that I was only able to obtain the speed in my signature 1 time and that was with the Alltel ROM and now I can't seem to get it to break 500kbps download. I know I did everything right and I know for a fact I am in a blanketed EVDO area but for whatever reason I just can't seem to get those speeds.

Anybody have any ideas?

Edit:: My upload speeds average 150-180 but will not break 200 anymore either so am I still on Rev A but not getting the download speeds?

Re: Rev. A Speed Tests - Please Post your results

ive been getting piss poor speeds until today, usually around 600kbps, but today i peaked 1000kbps. Imma try around late night 2-3am when congestions is low on speed test servers and on sprints network... might yeild better results.. either way i think its pretty awesome just in case my "commiecast" goes out (which is like once a friggin month)

All I can think of is that you are not getting Rev-A reception

Kind of like how I don't always get HSPDA through AT&T on my Kaiser, in some areas I only get 3G or just Edge or even just G.

I thought of that but I always have at least 2 bars EVDO and I live Olathe, KS and my apartment is only 7 miles from Sprint's National Headquarters in Overland Park, KS. The coverage map shows my area is blanketed in Rev A.

There has to be something wrong somewhere. Here is what I did:

Flashed back to stock ROM
Ran new unlocker
flashed Alltel rom skipping alltel customization
flashed jd's Rev A enabled test ROM.

Now my download speeds are less than 200kbps and upload won't break 30kbps.

I'm hopeless I think...](*,)](*,)

EDIT:: MobileSpeedTest.com test results:: 142.20kbps - Definitely NOT Rev A. Oh and I have 3 bars EVDO at the time of the test.

Quick question for those using JD's 2.1 Test Rom, I went to disable rilphone.dll but found the key already deleted...Just wanted to make sure that was the case.http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/%5BIMG%5Dh....jpg%5B/IMG%5D

Well it's nothing to brag about but it's pretty fast. I think around the speeds I was getting with my Mogul when REV A came out for it.

I'm in Austin, TX. We should post our cities so we can compare with others in the same area.

How are you guys doing the test through speedtest.net?
Is there a mobile url for it? Or are you guys just tethering?
Cause I cannot find it...

Anyways, on dslreports, I get 735 kbit/s, which is almost double what I was getting before :D

Wished Bell had a better Rev. A coverage ;)

If we can't tether, how do we test the speed? I have opera mini but I understand that tests the opera servers rather than what our phone is doing.

Re: Rev. A Speed Tests - Please Post your results

You don't have a computer and a USB cable?

If so, disable your computer from getting online (unplug LAN cable or wireless adapter)

Go into your phone's Comm Manager and click "Internet Sharing"

Plug your phone to your computer via USB

Click Connect on your phone

Your computer should now be able to get online via the Phone's data service. Run the test from speedtest.net and post your results.

My speed is pretty fast however I can't see a noticeable difference when browsing.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/264359373.png

Also, when I try www.dslreports/mspeed im gettin in the range of 600kb. Why such a big difference?

im using jd's rom and not getting those speeds at dslreports. Besides speed testing is there another to find out if you getting a rev.a signal?

I can't either, but I can see a noticeable difference when tethered. Especially when downloading. I use to download on average 40-60kbps peaking at 110kbps, now I'm getting average speeds of 75-80 and sometimes up to 179kbps. I think downloading a 70MB rom is more of a true speed test anywarys. A big difference so far.

I tried both briefly, I did notice that OMJ's was faster than JD's by a bit. I don't know if it's because of the networks load, or if it's the rom's settings. If I were to guess, OMJ has better network tweaks in his rom.

I had to go on my laptop near my window (actually had to hold it in a certain spot in the window for 3 bars) cause my apartment has horrible reception.... so no pic, but I got ~1100 down ~260 up on speedtest.net with ~350ms ping.

2 Bars brings you down to ~700 download
1 Bar brings you down to ~300 download
0 Bar seems to be around 100.

The browsing seemed faster on Ghettoryder's ROM when I had it before. It'll get faster once people come up with custom ROM's with certain tweaks in them, be patient. Theres actually a thread on the titan upgrades that i just saw.. some change to a registry value and latency goes down. Changing the DNS servers is another tweak that was mentioned in there. The titan people have a good couple months on us but I'm sure theres plenty we can learn from them and we'll catch up to them even though there doesn't seem to be as big of a user base here that knows the more advanced stuff.

Side note/Off topic: I don't have tethering on my account.. will i get charged for using it like that for speed tests or is it once i start doing it excessively?

Part of it is that test sucks and is known to be inconsistent. The other part depends on whether or not you were tethered when you ran that test, as from what I've heard tethering allows a more consistent and higher speed.

Have folks ever been charged extra for tethering even with the unlimited data plan? What plan do you have? That would suck if there were extra charges for that.
