"I will check the PPC Geeks online accessory store, but believe it or not... even with the massive success and popularity/sales the TP1 has had over the years, a simple Google search turned up almost NOTHING for the phone in the way of cases!" I need to buy her a case, and a screen protector... nothing makes me more sick than having to buy a phone at or near full retail, because it slipped out of a pocket and shattered, or fell into a toilet! I guess I'll have to go to Ebay or Amazon, but I am always weary of Ebay - things can really go awry there with a seller who isn't honest or wants to take their good old time. Hopefully PPC will have something decent online. |

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
Still no dice for me. My replacement showed up last week defective so I called for a replacement on that one. They said they have TP's in stock and the guy wouldn't budge on offering me something else. I never even made it to tech support I don't think. Perhaps my 3rd TP will be defective as well and I'll be set. In any case I'll ask to speak to a supervisor. The quality control is pretty bad on these refurbs... the one I'm sending back now came out of the box with the faceplate sticking up (near the home and call buttons so that when I would press it sometimes it would get stuck on the side).

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
By the way, what are the most common defect issues that people are getting warranty replacements for, so I can keep a close eye on the next one?

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
I've been reading this thread with interest, and gave it a try over the past 2 days - with success.
Background : Refurbished TP for the past 6 months. Original (NIB) screen died. 2 TPs in 9 months. Reason used for technical support : Phone has always overheated for long calls. Phone has now begun to shut off on its own when it gets too hot. Call #1 : Transferred to tech support, was provided some hard reset options and asked to call back if the problem continues. Call #2 : Offered a replacement TP from a "good" warehouse, that only has phones returned during the 30 day trial period. Declined. Call #3 : Tech support asked some questions about the age of the battery and finally offered TP2. No contract extension. Accepted. |
Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
Guys you all seem so lucky T_T I wish I had you guy's luck. I got to threw all the steps found a rep who would send the TP2 and everything HOWEVER after being promised long ago I could do the exchange with a phone suddenly theu are like you are eligible for an early upgrade so they will NOT allow me to do the exchange...it's so lame. I'd gotten that far with them saying I could and then it was just haggling with different reps on what phones they offer. To be slapped down at the end there is simply not fair. What is the email you guys are sending things to? I may end up doing that if I cannot find any other options T_T.

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
My 2nd warranty replacement just arrived in the mail. Same as last time - dpad faceplate is sticking way off. What a bunch of idiots. The phone is obviously defective before they even put it in the box to send it. What terrible quality control.
When I called the guy said I would have to bring it into the store to have it verified. So wish me luck, hopefully someone in the store can do something. Maybe they'll give me a Droid instead. |
Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
After calling back and being offered a 3rd refurb in less than a week, and a lot of complaining, I was finally offered a TP2, which I agreed to take. It was practically shipped. But then for some reason she tranferred me to someone who said I was not eligible for a replacement becuase my account was elegible for an upgrade. Basically why give you a TP2 when you can buy one... But after speaking with a supervisor they finally agreed to honor the TP2 offer, but only after extending my upgrade period (but not my contract). I suppose this is an ok deal. See you on the TP2 forums...

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
Wow this thread got long! I've been over in the TP2 forums for so long I forgot I posted it! Sorry guys. Loving my TP2!!
The thing is, there's no reason for the rep not to give any TP1 user a replacement TP2, even if it's their first replacement. Verizon doesn't even offer the TP1 on their website anymore, mainly because it had so many problems. Just be persistent with any rep you're on the phone with, and if they ask to send you out any replacement other than the TP2, politely tell them you're going to try to go through HTC for a warranty claim. They don't know that you're not going to do that. Then wait a little while - 2 hours, 2 days - it doesn't really matter...and call back. Because you're going to get a different Rep every time you call them back! And if you can talk to a customer service rep and get them to agree that you've had a bad experience with the TP1 and that you should be upgraded to a different device, TELL THEM TO PUT IT IN YOUR CALL NOTES, so that when you get transferred to tech support you don't have to explain your whole situation again. I believe this is what inspired the tech support rep to upgrade me to the TP2. Keep calling different reps until you get them to agree to send you a TP2!! Good luck guys and Merry Christmas! |

I know and understand their marketing corporate tactics they executed here, its obvious - give the customer a shiny new phone, and in the midst of their excitement, make them sign on the dotted line. Doh! I did email in a very well written and thoughtful account of my feelings on the matter, and was given a call by a representative in response... but in short, I was just battle fatigued, if I can use that term loosly, after 6 weeks of back-and-forth with Verizon. THE SILVER LINING is that, at least in 22 months when I can 'upgrade' at their 'discount' who knows what insanity willb be available then! 2 years from now, we might have veritable mini-laptops dressed up as phones, oled multi touch with 12mp cameras, and wifi-n networking!!! One can hope...... PS: Regarding my TP2, I admit.... I LOVE it. I typed this entire post on it, WITH gloves on, waiting in my dentist's office!!! |
