I have nothing against Flashing the ROM, although I have never done it, I just wish the basic built-in programs straight from the manufacturer would work :( I think I'll use today to flash my ROM, what's the best/current flash tool out there right now, and is Flashing different than installing something like MightyROM for my TP2? (is it like flashing the BIOS on my laptop?) |

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
I got my 2nd TP (warranty replacement) in the mail today. The rep first said there were no more TP's in stock but when I was transferred to tech support he found some in stock. They never said what they would offer in lieu of a TP, but I was kind of hoping for the Droid (not to change the subject) but would take a TP2. I'll see how long this one holds out and if it goes bad again perhaps then they will be out of stock and I'll get lucky.

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
I'm kind of feeling the same way, I'm on my 3rd replacement in 4 weeks (touch screen failures), they claim they'll replace it with something else if this one fails. The only two comparable phones I see are the TP2 and the Droid. The Eris doesn't have a keyboard and the display resolution is half that of the TP.

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
Just be persistent! The TP2 is awesome, but to be honest... only with the MightyROM.

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
Verizon sent me TP2. I have had my tp since october and to be honest i was happy with it. Know im waiting for the tp2 and it's coming tomorrow. I had problems with my tp's. I use the phones to write essays while in class, so the phones would say out of memory and then would get hot and i could not turn it back on untill it cooled down, weird.

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
I had issues with my TP so i took it to the store and initially sent me the wrong phne (Diamond) so i went back and said that it was not a compatible model, so they put the order in and told me that they still had TPs available and 2 days ago i got another TP....man, i wish i would have received a TP2 instead.....i wish there was a way for me to confirm that there was really no more TPs available.......and do you guys know if i would have to go to the store again if i get to have issues again, or can i just simply call tech support to see if they can send me a new one hopefully TP2...
pls advise |
Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
I have been having some screen and battery issues with my Verizon TP, as well. I was not forced over to Verizon from Alltel, I don't think we have Alltel on the west coast...? The screen will randomly shut off even when the battery is full, and one time the battery died in the night with no programs running and was at full charge when I went to bed, I had to recharge it before it would turn back on. Also sometimes it won't recognize the charger or start charging when plugged in.
Question Please.... If I do decide to have Verizon replace my TP for warranty, should I flash back to the stock rom first? I'm worried that they will not cover it if I've been flashing. :P Please advise.... Edit: Also gets hot and says there is not enough memory.... |

MY TP1 that got upgraded to a TP2 was from Alltel. I was an Alltel customer for about 6 years, and then I was forced by merger into Verizon service around October 23rd this year when the big switch happened. I think Asurion is Alltel's insurance, but I could be wrong; I thought Verizon used a different insurance provider or insured themselves. Anyway, one thing I am sure of is that my phone did not affect my insurance coverage in any way (more than 1 replacement per 12mo and they cancel your coverage!) because my TP1 was still under a 1yr manufacturer's warranty. Personal Communications Devices (who SUCK) is who Verizon deals with and directs traffic to etc, I believe most of the phones come from them. |

1.if you take to a store and a tech is there and or such a person with the knowledge of ppc devices is there helping you then they will kindly look you in the eye and explain how you voided your warranty and you will leave unhappy then # 2 which is even worse 2.if obtained thru the mail via fedex, after you sign the delivery slip and obtain "ownership" of the device then you better make damn sure you lock it lol,if you forget and they receive and see it's unlocked well then on your account it will be noted you sent back a voided warranty phone,at that point that lil replacement in your hand your playing with just cost you full retail price and you can expect to see it on your next available bill!! :) |
Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
i signed up with verizon in aug. of this year.. originally got a htc ozone which i returned for poor signal quality. i then got an htc touch pro again same problem. i had called verizon, they sent out a field tech to test the signal. they said they saw some problems in the area etc, etc.. keep in mind i have been using my old motorola q prior on my verizon corp account just fine. they say there is nothing they can do, they wont exchange the found to poor signal quality as the area has been deemed a bad one yet other phones work phone and the area is fine!!
any thoughts on what to do? |

Are you planning on flashing to a custom ROM? MightyROM has been a great experience for me so far, I had to do a hard-reset today for some reason, and yesterday the phone locked up and I had to take off the case and then remove the battery and re-start... but the interface and speed overall is awesome! |
Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
WOW! I am now in your boat! I called Verizon and didn't even get nasty and my NEW TP2 is now being prepped for take off.... destination...my mail box!
Thing is I have had 3 TP1s exchanged by mail and one instore since getting the phone new in store in Feb/Mar and have had refurbs everytime except for the instore replacement. My current TP1 is acting up as the others did. So I am not trying to get something for nothing. just goig by their policy.:) All I did was call CS tell them my previos experiances with the phone/exchanges/crappy reps on phone and instore and how Verizon needs to handle the situation more appropriatly.....she said she was So sorry and sent me to TS who then got my info and asked if I would be happy with a TP2 as a replacement. I stayed calm....and asked if the TP2 would be a refurb. she said NO way i had dealt with those enough. Took my info, apologized for the crappy service and delay, and told me Merry Christmas....I was warm inside with christmas cheer. Score. :headbang: |
Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
Am I the only person who doesn't have a single problem out of his TP1? I almost wish it'd screw up so I could have a shot at a TP2. I really like the TP though, it's treated me well and runs very good. The main reason I'd even want a TP2 is for the extra ram.

Mine gets a little warm, but it's never really gotten hot. Have never had problems charging, such as those that are frequently reported.

Maybe I was lucky, but I was subtly pushing for the tp2 from the get go. Actually I have another question for you. You've been so helpful and I'm stuck on something with relocking. I flashed back to stock and did the relocking procedure but after when I go into bootloader mode it still says unlocked. Is that normal, did I do something wrong? Any ideas? I can PM you if that's better since it is not topic related. Good luck with Verizon, as well! |

HOWEVER, my version says SPL-0.35.0000 NOT 0.37.0000, or .40 like you mentioned...does that mean I have flashed an old stock rom? If so and I am sending it back is that going to be a red flag? Crossin my fingers for ya! |

I have been fighting with Tech Support tryng to get them to send me a TP2, they say that they can't send me a upgrade device ...they want to send me a new one... they place a request for a Supervisor to return my call but to see if this could be approve but no luck yet.... |

that is what a tech support rep told me that since they showed that this was my second device they had to send me a third one before they send me a TP2, so i will see how far i can get with the Supervisor.....and if i can't get through her then i guess i will have them send me another TP and hopefully it get mess up so i can finally claim my TP2 any feedback on what should i tell the Supervisor since we are going to be talking via email........ |

Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
I'm still talking with a Tech Support Supervisor, and she is just not givin up,
this is what a sent her last via email: , what will happen if I was to accept and have you send me the same model (another device) again. Then I get to have again tech issues which I know this will happen, do you guys just keeps sendin same model devices until the customer gets tired of calling for the same thing and keep the non working device? " she has not replied back and it has been some time since i sent her this message. she is trying to get me to upgrade but i not doing that ....no way... I can chat with her all day if she wants to until she gives up........let wait and see what she replies.... |
Re: VZW replacing TP1 with TP2!
Sorry guys. I dunno. That's lame! You guys are talking to Tech Support not customer service right? I told them that I had read that the phone was having major issues all over and that people were having to have them replaced left and right and that I did not want to deal with that. I said that I paid for a device that would work and signed a 2 year contract and that is not what I received and as such they needed to take care of it. Tel them you'll take your business elsewhere! Tell them that if they cannot resolve the issue that you'll cancel your account and not pay the cancellation fee since it is not your fault that they did not provide you with a working device! Get mad! Good luck, and maybe after you guys succeed I will see you on the TP2 device threads. So long for now, and thank you num5kull for all you have helped me with! :)
