I found that it helps if I slide the keyboard open and leave it like that while I'm tethering and charging at the same time. Helps dissipate the heat a little better.

Yep, it's overheating.
Figure out a way to cool it down and you should be ok.

I put mine on ice, leterally with an ice pack, when I'm tethering. Seems to do the trick. Never had it die and I use it for hours on end.

definitely slide it open. i stream netflix while tethering and it always stays fully charged when i have it this way.

I remember reading a post from a guy who put his phone in a fridge... not sure how it worked out, but yikes.

There is a post from a fellow who put his phone on a room temperature sanwich bag full of water. It acted as a heat sink and kept the TP charging... Low tech solution, but if it works,then great!.
Just make sure not to puncture your heat sink all over your shiny gadget.

Try placing your phone on a ice pack. Put the pack inside a zip bag and place a folded paper towel over it. Put your phone on top of it. The ice pack will keep it cool and allow it to charge while being used.
