Touch Pro Keyboard Fix

I already posted this on the the EngeryROM thread but thought this would apply to all with a Touch Pro.
Background: My Keyboard had been flaky for quite a while but would always work if I did a 'Clear Storage' or reflashed a new ROM... but if finally died and would not work at all. Here is how I fixed it for me. Hopefully it works for you too! :)

Here is what I posted on the other thread:

Quote:

So, I flashed the stock ROM back on my phone and relocked it so I could take it back to the Sprint store, fully expecting to get a replacement phone because my hardware keyboard had finally quit working all together. So I take it in and they take it back to their tech guy... a couple min later they call me back there (I'm thinking 'oh crap, did I not relock properly?' Lol..)
The tech (who I actually know) tells me he literally just heard about a new fix today.
The fix is:
Take the battery out, hold down the space bar pretty hard for about 5 seconds (while the battery is out), reinsert the battery and power on device.
I don't know how or why this worked, but I am not complaining. Hopefully this will last...
Good luck and I hope this helps out.

Re: Touch Pro Keyboard Fix

Does this only work if the phone is locked with stock Sprint Rom?

Doesn't work on Sprint HTC Touch Pro w/ EnergyRom 8/1.

Strange.

Usually, the "press the spacebar hard" trick is to help re-seat the physical keyboard ribbon which is located directly below it [see: here].

I can't imagine a single software/firmware reason for messing with the spacebar while the battery is out, so really the ROM you're using won't matter when doing this trick.

My phone was locked and had the stock ROM on it at the time... so I haven't tested while running the EnergyROM.
So not sure. I was throwing this out there b/c it worked for me, hoping that it might help a few more people out.

Although if your keyboard already doens't work it probably wouldn't hurt to flash stock rom and them lock and try this method, but entirely up to you. Good Luck either way.

Good to know, I was kind of thinking the same thing but wasn't sure... I know when my keyboard crapped out I was willing to almost try anything to get it back up and running (no point in having a TP if the keyboard is bad, ya know)

That fixed mine the first time...then went dead again after a few weeks.

You gotta open it and reinforce those cruddy ribbon cable connections:
