Re: User Customization Backup for Touch Pro using sashimi

FINALLY!! I now have a good solid setup for Sashimi. I did 2 hard resets just to make sure everything installed fine. I have yet to try the script to automate PIM back up but I will eventually get around to it.

As i use the phone more and more (add contacts, new tasks, new checkbook entries, add bookmarks), do i have to do anything special for Sashimi to insure I have the latest information for all my files?

Re: User Customization Backup for Touch Pro using sashimi

files can be backed up with ppcpimbackup. if you have the registry settings for this program in your regexport.ini, then the files/folders backed up on previous rom build should work on new one. There are other ways of backing these up, but I don't know how they work.

Did you change ROMS? i think if there was an update in the icon sets (possibly even small variations in name changes), you may lose the previous ones because that's what it's looking for.

i know you've posted a copy of your regexport.ini file to look at but I am looking in Sashimi/Program/INI and there are only 2 things in there: custom tools.ini and settings.ini. Am i supposed to create these first with Sashimi? ](*,)

Yes, it should be in that folder. If there is none there already, just drop your copy in that folder.

No same rom but I do move my shortcuts from my cab installs into folders.

I know there's a reg to back up for the S2U2 setting. and I put that backup into the reg folder under auto. However, after my last hard reset, everything works except for that reg file. All the cabs are installed correct, but I just can't seem to get that reg to upload in the correct place. Any ideas?

How did you export that reg setting? Did you do it manually or using the regexport.ini? It will be helpful if you posted the file. It's probably a syntax error.

I just did it manually from the reg edit. I am getting a feeling that it's not the way to do .... could you point me in the right direction? I have another reg edit that will port my alarm settings and it works with that method. Maybe I need to set up regexport.ini??

Thanx I saw that file. I made some changed and saved to the proper directory, but when I tried to do a back up , it said no file found. Is a text file ok or it should be in some other format?

I guess what I was saying is how do I save an ini file from a txt file? I know this is very nub of me, but I've tried different ways to approach this, but everytime I end up with a txt file.

What is the correct subdirectory name? "Cabs" or "Cab"? Or does it make a difference?

It's CAB not CABS sorry for the typo. The folder are already created for you.

An *.ini file is a text file. Just rename the text file from *.txt to *.ini in windows or total commander on the phone.

Another dumb question, sashimi would automatically back up what i have in the file then the next time I run auto it will unload those setting back to where they should be right?

I'd recommend reading through the manual again and/or taking another look at the videos to be sure you are comfortable with it before erasing anything. You can back up the registry settings in the tools\custom export, and they should be restored on the flash.

I don't use either of those programs, so I don't know the answer for sure. Most settings are stored either in the registry or a file. So go to sashimi\tools\full export to back up your registry. Make a change in the program of interest, and then do another full registry export under tools\full export. Then use windiff to compare the two files - you should be able to pin down the change you made. there will of course be a bunch of stuff that always changes with time/position of the phone, so you'll have sort through those. Additionally, you can check the program files folder or the windows directory for the latest changed file - which sometimes have the registry settings. Hope this helps.

Resco Explorer's settings may be in the registry, but the actual registration key / process is not. It is supposed to use the Windows/wmtrigger.dat file -according to other posts and sites where I originally looked. I do back this up but have not been too successful getting the registration to work when I copy this file back. Just an FYI.

Yeah I agree - I'm on my 7th Touch Pro, 4th just this month!

It's great to be able to pick up my phone from sprint, and unlock and flash it back to the way I had it before the keyboard went out ALL DONE BEFORE I GET HOME!

Talk about sweet!

Re: User Customization Backup for Touch Pro using sashimi

When Sashimi is setup to run after a hard reset does it interfere with the normal customization process that a custom ROM goes through after a hard reset?

brokestudent12 10-31-2009 11:28 PM

Re: User Customization Backup for Touch Pro using sashimi

No because the normal customization process that a custom ROM goes through has already happened by the time UC picks up sashimi

No, you have to run Sashimi after you hard reset,

If want the UC section (which most custom roms use) to launch sashimi then read POST 1 under Information Section > User Customization to Launch Sashimi

Yes, still have the option once it launches Sashimi to exit it and not push your settings. which is nice, because you need to hard reset after a flash and there is not point to installing your settings for a hard reset.

Re: User Customization Backup for Touch Pro using sashimi

To setup the start menu in 6.5.1 the way we went it, is all we have to do is copy the folder structure to the Storage Card/SASHIMI/Auto/Root? Same with any other file's and folder's we want placed on a fresh build, correct?

Also, how to we backup the WiFi Router (CMInternetSharing.exe) settings? That way we can connect to it without having to set it back up?

Many thanks!

studentjunk 11-02-2009 11:29 AM

Re: User Customization Backup for Touch Pro using sashimi

By just copying the folder structure, you would create the folders with the links. However, as the programs are installed, they would create links according to the cab instructions. So you would likely create duplicates. You could use the customlinks.ini (see sashimi manual) to change shortcuts, or you could delete the shortcuts you don't want with mortscript. Unfortunately, I don't use wifi routing so I can't answer your other question.

rootlinux 11-06-2009 03:45 AM

Re: User Customization Backup for Touch Pro using sashimi

You know, I never thought of just copying folders via Sashimi. LOL
Just learned something new.
Probably won't use it but that is cool to know.
I just make cabs to place files where I want them and use Sashimi to install the cabs.

Thanks for the info.

So you are adding folders that hold the reg files so you won't have to reg again?

Re: User Customization Backup for Touch Pro using sashimi

well i found some programs (lumos) for example stores the settings in a file.

so after sashimi does its thing, it then moves the settings file to the lumos folder so that lumos has my correct settings.

I think its a matter of how the programers decide to do their work. some use registry values some use .ini or even .txt files for settings.

so i grab whatever i see that looks like a setting and store it.

I searched and could not find.. does anyone know, is there a way to save opera cookies? One other thing I found is, I saved reg info for palringo, and after when i open palringo it shows my login email, and password but when I try to log in it says invalid, I have to delete and enter manually, anyone else seen this?

studentjunk 11-06-2009 11:05 PM

Re: User Customization Backup for Touch Pro using sashimi

It may be in the cookies4.dat file. But if you backup the whole opera9 directory, you should capture them. I only started using opera again a few days ago, so I am not 100% sure, but this is what I remember.

I have found the opera folder in windows or program files, depending on the version I have tried.
