Re: Need a fast, reliable and not necessarily fancy ROM

I installed DCD ROM, looks very nice. I also installed the cabs provided by the dcd download folder. Then I download Opera mobile 9.7 (and a touchscreen-based plugin) from its official site, installed them. When I start Opera, it got very les responsive. Also, the zoom in/out does not work. I search the DCD-ROM post, finding that some other guys also had similar problem, but looks like no solution. Do you have Opera problem? Also, you mentioned that voice command does not work for v1.09, so I also installed V1.08. A stupid question, where to find the voice command function? Previously when I use my Mogul, voice command works well. Now I switch to TP, can not find this function...... Last edited by featips; 07-12-2009 at 09:29 PM. |

Re: Need a fast, reliable and not necessarily fancy ROM
In last 24 hours, I already learned a lots of 'jargon' in this forum, such as DCD (the fisrt time I saw DCD is someone asked me to search this, but I don't know what it is.......hehe)
As a newcomer, I have another question about 'jargon'. I often see people mention 'kitchen'. What's the relation of kitchen to ROM? Is it a collection of plugins/mods for a ROM? For example, when I download Juicy 8 ROM, there is also a 'Juicy 7 Kitchen' link together. I am confused, are they separate (v8 and v7), or V7 kitchen can be used as a supplement to V8 ROM? Sorry for this kind of newbie's question. |

Re: Need a fast, reliable and not necessarily fancy ROM
Kitchen - You make your own PERSONALIZED ROM, choose your own settings/programs
ROM - Whoever the "chef" is chooses what you install on your phone, whatever programs/settings they enter from their kitchen, you install on your phone

So, for kitchen, we have to search internet to find some program cabs to install? Or, the kitchen version provide a compact clean ROM, shipped with some non-installed program cabs? Still take that Juicy ROM v8 and Juicy Kitchen v7. I shall download both and use the latter to make modifications? Last edited by featips; 07-13-2009 at 11:11 AM. |

I don't want to test every released ROM, just want to select from ROMs with relative 'good reputation'. |

Re: Need a fast, reliable and not necessarily fancy ROM
I often see people ask what is best ROM, and they always got 'routine' answer: 'no best, try yourself.'
Yes, definitely we need to test by ourselves, but other's input may save us time, avoiding waste of time. For example, if you arrive at a new city, and you may ask your friend there which resterant is the best. Everyone know food preference is different for different people, but you still ask your friend, why? You want to make use of other's experience, then make your own decision. |

Re: Need a fast, reliable and not necessarily fancy ROM
If you want fast, stable, and no nonsense go with JD's suggestion...his or DCD's...install just the things you want and you won't have anything to worry about...

Re: Need a fast, reliable and not necessarily fancy ROM
+1 for DCD. fast and stable i'm running 1.08 now (couldn't get vlingo to work with 1.09) and love it. warning though, it's stripped, you have to install what you want. the good thing is that DCD has made .cab for all the most popular and needed things and hosts them on his site. click my sig.
