Well I like Skyfire for most things but you didn't mention Opera. I like Opera but it's not as fast. I can't wait till Version 10 comes out.

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

well firefox is opera... but yea I dont like how they are so damn slow.. skyfire is good but everytime you zoom it has to do some loading and opera is the same way... its really weird that all of them are slow... isint there a web browser that can zoom and not take forever???

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

Firefox isn't Opera!?
Are you talking pc browsers or ppc browsers!?
Fennec is the ppc browser by Mozilla/Firefox and it is verrrrrry slow.
It is still being developed though.
Try the new Opera 9.7 that is out.

IMO, They all blow!!! There is still yet to be a fully functioning mobile browser, IMO. I think there is ALOT of needed improvement in all browser platforms, bottom line.

I must be strange to then  I do have Opera available, and use it if I need to access multiple pages at once, but most of the time I am just on for a quick minute to look something up and use the PIE that came with WinMo6.5, you can set it up to view pages as a desktop or as mobile.

I've tried all of the browsers I am aware of, Fennic (super super slow, I love desktop Firefox, but they have some serious work to do before I will consider using it), Opera Mobile (9.5 & 9.7 beta) both of which work ok, the tab feature being the defining advantage, but I don't use them unless I need to since some altercations I had with their desktop browser. Skyfire I tried and liked the fact that it acted like a desktop browser, with the new IE that comes with the ROM I am using (Demolition) I wasn't worth the effort of installing it.

So there's my opinion hope it helps :-D

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

hmmm....nothing for netfront?

Netfront browser is my go to everyday browser for reading.
if I want to see picture heavy, graphics type sites, then I use opera.

What set netfront apart is that they automatically size the text to fit the screen. So you don't have to scroll back and forth to read an article or a forum post.

Seriously...for reading, use netfront...for pictures....I guess opera

you know, I actually do too. The new version of IE is awesome in my opinion (absolutely night & day better than the older one)

My really favorite browsing setup however is using my2nd gen ipod touch tethered to my TP with WMWifirouter, that screen & browser blows away any WM option...........

That has been on ongoing annoyance with Skyfire for a long time now (one of the reasons I hate skyfire) Text sucks on Skyfire too, but that's another thread.....

The sound will usually work if you go through the PITA of signing out & back in again & opening the same file......

Iris is pretty good, it's similar to safari (& that's not a bad thing)

I still prefer OperaMini 95% of the time however.

Opera mini for reading and Opera 9.7 for downloading.

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

Been using Iris a little bit now, and I'd have to say I like it :) Not sure if I like it enough to install it every time I flash a new ROM, but that's not saying much since I don't browse on my phone much. I may think about incorporating it into the new ROM I am building though.

yea I was wondering about the iris browser as well and I too am really unhappy with opera because its so damn slow... :(

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

Tried Iris some more now, and other than having problems with the orientation I still like it. Sometimes it just refuses to realize which orientation it is in, and it will display upside down until I shake it or turn the screen off. Could be the ROM just as much as Iris though.

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

yea the main reason i posted this is because it always takes forever to scroll thru web pages on everything i have tried and when ur trying to zoom on ie it dosint do anything so theres the main issues i am having... :(.. when i had my treos i never had a problem with them lol but i love my tp enough to just deal with it... unless someone knows a diffrent way to go

ChaosTheory 07-10-2009 03:55 PM

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

I know if I try to scroll when the page is loading I have problems, but once it loads completely it scrolls just fine. As far as zooming, just double tap or open the menu and move the slider. It could be a matter of screen sensitivity :dontknow: which I know there are plenty of hacks for that.

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

My experience-
IE, Opera 9.5/9.7/mini, Skyfire, Netfront, Iris, Fennec, UCWEB. These are the browsers I currently have installed...which is patently ridiculous! The new IE is ok if a little slow and clumsy. The only browser I know of that will report the right device on sites like powerdeck. Opera Mini is the fastest and handles text the best but is inconsistent with links (sometimes they work, other times they don't). Operating in the java environment makes it less convenient to use, even with all the mortscript tweaks. Opera 9.5 is SLOW. 9.7 holds promise to bridge between 9.5 and mini but is early beta buggy. Skyfire is fast and best at flash but doesn't handle text and scaling as well as Opera. Netfront isn't any better than Mini at text, is slower and not free. Iris is as slow as 9.5 even though they tout its speed and messes up graphically on more than a few sites. Fennec is alpha buggy buggy buggy. UCWEB, the most popular browser in China...because they're probably forced to use it. I'm not, so I won't! It's just plain ugly.

I'm a longtime Opera mini user. I tried to use 9.7 as my go to browser but it's way too buggy at this point. Recently I find myself using Skyfire more and more. I hate all the home page junk and its page resizing could be better, but it seems to be the best compromise between speed and usability for me. I think that once the bugs in 9.7 are swatted, it could be the mobile browser to beat as long as they don't get caught up in the social network stuff Skyfire is mired in.

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

Thanks to pastafarian for the detailed breakdown of the availabel browsers. I finally gave up on Iris, the orientation thing was killing me, and I honestly like how the new IE renders the pagesz I visit most (such as this one as I Type) Don't browse enough for my opinion to matter a whole lot, but there it is. I have high hopes for fennic if they can speed it up, since I like Firefox as much as I do (3.5 iS quite nice) Until then I will prolly just use whatever is easiest to get to in the ROM flavor of the week :-D

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

Another fairly nice browser, which is alot like opera mini, give or take a few features, is Bolt. Its a java based browser just like mini, and works very well. It would be my top browser of choice, but unfortunately it doesnt save passwords. Its still in beta form, so hopefully that issue will get straightened out.

Heres the link to bolts website and download.

i use different browsers for different things. opera for quick browsing and downloading from megaupload, iris for downloading from rapidshare, and skyfire for streaming videos. i never use ie. tried fennec, but right now it is just terrible

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

depending on the site i wanna go to:
1-skyfire
2-IE(mainly for downloads and stuff)
3-opera

Re: Whats your favorite Web browser?

i use PIE, Opera, and Skyfire for different things..... if i want to look something up quickly i use PIE (quicker load time). if i want a more well rounded browsing experience that's easier to naviate i use Opera. Skyfire is seldom used, i just haven't found a stable version yet and it always seems to crash on me. overall i prefer opera for most uses.
