Problem connecting to home wireless network
Hi, I got my touch pro today, I unlocked the phone and I am having troubles connecting to our wireless network at home here. My phone can see the network, I put in the proper security key, it says "connecting", then it goes to "unavailable". I don't know what to do... I'm a fresh noob to WM.

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
I have seen a few wireless manufactures having issues with the TP. Are you on the stock ROM or custom?
|
Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
I am on the stock ROM still, all I've done is unlocked it.

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
Switch your Wifi Power Mode to "Best Performance;" also, try connecting with the security disabled in your wireless router so you can see if it's simply your phone not understanding the security protocols.

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
I am having the exact same problem. i have tried it both with my network open and with wep.... does not work. the network at my work is hidden (not protected).....it works fine. at mcdonalds... it works. at my friends house (protected network)... it works. at home... it does not work. i did a hard reset. (running stock rom)... still does not work. very strange.
any help would be appreciated. johnboyinfl |
Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
You have the Network name spelled exactly right? The box for "hidden network" checked or unchecked depending on your router's SSID Broadcast settings? The correct Authentication protocols for your router (Open/Shared/WPA/WPA-PSK/WPA2/WPA2-PSK)? The correct data encryption type (TKIP/AES)? Does your router at home have MAC filtering enabled, and if so, is your phone's MAC address put in there? Are your Wireless LAN power settings set to Best Performance?

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
I am having the exact same problem!
Type in my WEP code and nothing, soon after I click connect it becomes unavailable. I have an older D-Link router. Might it be specific to the router brand? |
Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
Sounds to me like it might be an issue with your home wireless network...

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
sounds like a router issue to me. had the same problem with my LT at one of the fire houses i have to work at from time to time. my LT's built in WiFi could not connect but if i used a PC WiFi card it worked just fine. do you have another router you could try, maybe a friends?

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
Hmmm, the router I'm having problems with is a D-Link DIR 655(firmware 1.11), maybe it's D-Link??? I'm going to do more troubleshooting for mine right now. I am definitely leaning towards this being a D-Link problem, everyone should post what kind of router they have tried it on.

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
I actually noticed one other thing that maybe everyone else has. When you click on the network and fill in your settings, you input your security key then eventually click "connect", then it says "connecting", then "available/unavailable". But then when I click on the network again and advance to the authentication page, there are 3 more asterisk's in the network key box. Meaning our network key is 10 characters long, but when I click again on the network there are 13 asterisk's. Very odd...

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
As of a few minutes ago my TP can connect to the network when it is open and no security. But still same problem when it does have security. :(

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
Try setting up the router to use a different security mode than what you were using. WEP, WPA, WPA-PSK, WPA2, WPA2-PSK, etc.

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
mine is a d-link as well. i will have to try another router. just did a restore on my computer. once i get up and running again, i will try another router and see if that helps. hmmmm... sounds like d-link is the problem.

Edit - LOL?

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
I have troubleshooted properly. My PC just connected wirelessly to my router with authentication WPA-PSK, and encryption AES. I used the exact same settings on my TP to connect and I still get the "unavailable" after I try to connect(and I'm still getting the extra 3 asterisk's for the network key when I go back into the network's settings after removing and entering in info for a new network). I even tried reserving an IP for my TP on my router with it's MAC address, and still nothing. It's a problem with the security because I connected when it was an open network. Afar from that I don't know what to do.

This was happening to me too, in Brazil. On protected networks AND public networks. Some places it worked, some places it didnt. For the places it did/didn't work, it was consistent.

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
Just to update you guys, I did a hard reset and the wifi works like a charm now. I'm going to go ahead and install everything on again and see if I can still connect properly. Note that my phone was still unlocked, and my settings for my secured network are now WPA2-PSK with TKIP encryption. Perhaps we all installed something?

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
I think I may of just figured out the problem. Do any of you install the Advanced Configuration Tool? When you install it there is a setting under network that says "WPA Authentication", and for some reason it is disabled by default. That explains why you can connect with no security, and why you cannot connect when there is security. Enable it and your problem should hopefully be fixed... And I read past it so many times...

Re: Problem connecting to home wireless network
computer back up and running. got rid of the dlink router. set up new linksys and it worked great for one day. now it doesn't work again. running stock rom.. ran sprint cleanup.. do not have advance config tool installed... will have to try it without security enabled.... running wep right now.
