Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

just saw an email on the new iphone. just wondering if sprint carried this phone would you guys dump the touchpro for it? i know its a moot point but i guess its a good way to get some opinions on who thinks the tp is still better

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

I think that the general consensus on the iPhone is that it's just a cool fad, and not quite as practical as apple wants you to think it is. Most of those "Apps" they tout are no more than web browser extensions. No reason that you can't do anything with a Touch Pro that you could do with an iPhone, and you get a REAL keyboard.

I agree, thought about the iPhone for about 15 seconds, then came back to Earth. I love my TP baby!!!

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

There's nothing too great about the new iphone. The fact that they waited until an entirely new revision to be able to add a video feature speaks volumes on how much Apple wants to keep the iPhone on lockdown. AT&T is also not a particularly good service to be chained to for several years.

BRIVERS73 06-09-2009 01:57 PM

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

Honestly they really didn't do anything to the device to actually call it new...
And if I wanted an iphone, I would've went to AT&T. I like the freedom to customize & customization goes as far as installing an app with Apple..

Machinehead 06-09-2009 02:14 PM

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

New iPhone is the same as the old iPhone. And still on AT&T, no thanks.

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

You know, after years and years using an old Motorola i1000 and then i90c, I was pretty freaking excited when I saw my roomate's new iPhone. I wanted one, and I wanted one bad. Thankfully, I wasn't able to buy it at the time, and instead cycled through a few more crappy dumbphones until I'd moved to a new state, new job, and new carrier. When it was time to renew and ditch the Samsung Hue I'd been given, I did about a week of researching and decided on the Touch Pro.

Now, seeing everything I can do with this bad boy (and comparing it to what I was able to do with my roomate's iPhone), I think it would take a serious change in Apple's philosophies for me to reconsider.

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

The iphone is not all that great. You have to buy apps, camera sucks and is outdated.
Browser is ok but they always compare the speed to an older windows mobile based browser instead of the newer ones. So I would stay With the TP.

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

The Iphone is a wonderful PHONE that is well executed. It is not a smartphone or PDA. It is an Ipod with a phone that can launch other programs. I have an Ipod Touch 32 Gig which I love for what it does which is play music, movies and the occasional simplistic game. I think it is short sided for us ppc geeks to not realize that Iphone is perfect for a large majority of the general population that doesn’t need to edit office documents, download torrents on their phone or the plethora of other things WM offers.

I think at the core we are a different breed than Iphone users. I know a few people that have Iphones that see my ipod which has been hacked to its limits and are amazed at what I have done with it.

I for one am happy for the ipone for one simple reason. It has forced MS to innovate/copy some much needed features that are/were sorely lacking from our beloved OS. I welcome the Pre and Iphone OS and even the crapberry os to light a little fire under the guys in Redmond to continue to improve WinMo.

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

i would never get an iphony.

it cant run multiple apps, you have to pay for anything to make the thing usable, and it is just a pretty interface for something that cant do a whole lot without spending extra money.

as i post on giz when somebody thinks their iphony is God, ive had copy and paste before the iphony came out, and i didnt have to pay 10 bucks for it...also i dont have to pay a buck per song that i already own..i can stream my own music collection that ive collected for 10 years to my phone, and not have to worry about running out of space on my phone:headbang:

its good for what people want it for...to look and be like everybody else...and fanboys that think apple can do nothing wrong....

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

I would never go to the iphone even if Sprint picked it up in the future. One of my friends watched me back in the day when I had my Apache constantly flashing the phone making regisrty changes and laughed at me because of all the work I did on a stupid phone. Then he buys the iphone and wouldn't you know it 2 weeks in he's jail breaking it because he didn't have the ability to run the apps he wanted. So now I laugh at him and on top of that no 3g where I live for at&t. So just to rub it in his face I run wmwifirouter when he's in town so he can use wifi to feel the power of a Sprint EVDO connection. With all the there's an app for that crap what actually comes on the iphone? With the 16GB cards out and the 32GB cards coming soon there's really no reason to look at the iphone unless you want to try and show how cool you are out at the bar. Until some ahole pulls out a WinMO phone that owns your iphone for less money!

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

Owning a WM phone is definitely a lot more work. iPhone is ultimately a status symbol rather than a tool of utility. If people truly needed a phone that can operate as a mobile computer, the iPhone performs very poorly.

Competition breeds innovation, so the fact that the iPhone is so popular shouldn't be taken as a bad thing, just a sign that things will be better in the future for us WM users. I have high hopes for the Android OS, provided more phones are supported. Open platforms is by far the best thing for consumers.

Yeah Mr.Apple, I will have to peal up off of your new super all world iphone 3gS with no Slingbox mobile client app, the buck stop here…

I just think your new iphone 3gS cannot match up with the new latest HTC Touch Pro 2 Windows mobile 6.1/6.5/7.0 WVGA TouchFLO 3D/2D 800×480 PPC 32 GB SDHC Card slot, 3.5MP camera, TVOUT, video camcorder, five row pull out Qwerty hard keyboard with the “JimboTron” tilt screen, worldwide mobile card and the SlingBox mobile client app works with this super star…

Mr. Apple, looks to me that you tried to copy the features of the HTC Touch Pro 2, but you do not have this Windows mobile PPC beat this time around, the game changer… That’s why,my money is going with the HTC Touch Pro 2 with the “JimboTron” screen, ideal for slinging, movies and YouTube videos….{lol}

The iPhony is an inferior device buoyed by a world-class marketing campaign. The only credit Apple should get is for their ability to woo new developers into the mobile space.

Actually there is a slingbox client. It cost 29.99 and does not allow you to use 3G. ](*,)

Its not inferior its just different. I would prefer my wife to have an iphone so i dont have to be phone tech support along with the PC. It is great at what it does. BUT yes they do have a world class marketing campaign also and the coolness factor. But it is a quality device. I would love for my next WinMO device to have the glass screen and capacitive touch from apple. Multitouch would be sweet too.

I would add ease of use to that list and ease of finding programs. What makes the ipone so easy is app store and itunes they are both incredibly easy to use to get the garbage 99 cent flashlight app you have always wanted.

Hence why we own WinMo devices cause we endlessly tinker trying to extract everything we can out of our phones. The ipone is limited in this regard. But the hacking community has done some cool things with the platform.

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

I'm 100% with eehrhard!

The iPhone isn't for me, but for my wife who wants cool without hassle it might be perfect. I would never consider a WM device for her either. WM's complication and unreliability would make that a disater. She complains enough about her relatively simple Treo. I was waiting for the Pre as a replacement for her Treo 755p, but the 3Gs or even a $99 3G might end up a better choice. I'm going to sit on the sidelines for a couple of months and see how the Pre shapes up before a final decision. Changing to at&t will almost certainly cost more /mo than I'm paying now. I'm not WM fanboy either, after 3 WM phones and a bunch more PDA's. I'm tired of waiting for each new version to fix the performance issues that never get fixed. One thing about the iPhone, using one and going back to the TP makes the TP feel like it's running in slow motion. I'm looking to Android to free me from my WM affliction while maintaining my geek addiction in the future. Hopefully the next 6-12mo will reveal a device that catches my fancy. One thing's almost certain, I won't buy anther WM device. The only way I stay WM past the TP is for another free upgrade or WM7 turns out to be a absolute industry changing masterpiece. My experience tells me that though M$ touts WM7 as "all new", it will end up being the same old kludge of an os with yet another new paint job. Just like every version going back to wince2.11.

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

sigh... not another iphone thread. No matter how the thread starts out it inevitably ends with a iphone vs WMO device argument.

The other thing is that this thread is sort of useless since the Iphone is not coming to Sprint any time soon.... So it's a total waste of time asking the question.

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

Iphone is stable and has a beautiful screen. The TP2 will have just as good screen. Windows being stable? LoL, that's an oxymoron!

WM is just so much funner! (Yes, I know funner is not a real word grammar Nazi's)
;)

I was really disappointed with the new Iphone.....I expect more then same body and slightly faster from apple. I was at least expecting a 5 megapixel camera from them.

Re: Who Would Jump To The New Iphone?

the only thing that makes me EXTREMELY jealous of iPhone users is this one spec:
Try to get any of these numbers on a Touch Pro. 9 HOURS on Wi-Fi!!??!?!?! Try 2 hours on my Touch Pro and that's probably an over-estimate.

It just makes me wish they'd care more about battery life with Windows Mobile Phones cause if the iPhone can get this much we should be able to get atleast half that. My phone barely last 9 hours not doing anything.

No sir, AT$T killed the SlingBox app on their new 3g 7.2MB network, that $29.95 slingBox app must be a wifi app.... This is big talk over at http://www.slingcommunity.com ... Check it out dude....:drunken:

Iphone is never going to be a phone for me, i can see how badly apple is working on it, its mostly the developers now doing their job with creating apps.

I would never ever ever trade my TP for an IPhone....I love the fact that soooo many apps and customizations are available, and the freedom to do more!!! DOWN WITH THE COMMUNISTIC CORPORATE CONGLOMERATION(APPLE) BENT ON THE DEGREDATION OF THE CUSTOMIZERS ABILITIES IN AN ATTEMPT TO ENSUE GREATNESS!!!!!!!
