Didn't take long to break it...
Well, 2 weeks after getting this bad boy, I think all my uneducated tinkering with ROMs and settings and cabs has finally caught up with me.
My display is freaking the hell out. It started the night after I flashed to the newest R3BORN release. By "freaking the hell out," I mean, 9 times out of 10 when I take it out of standby, the home screen is totally skewed. Turning the display off and then back on will sometimes fix it, other times, it just alters the exact way in which it is skewed. When that isn't the issue, I find that using the camera/video at all will frequently send the screen into a distorted frenzy. The slider in TF3D seems to be duplicated sometimes, and overlapping itself. Thinking back, I had been tinkering quite a bit with the new ROM while--brace yourself for the "DUH" moment--intoxicated. Trying to install custom taskbars, I was erratically following the instructions in the tsowen thread, and had installed skdcerts.cab, nuePowerDriverTitanVogue-101-v1.1-cab.cab, NuePowerCPL-152-v1.52-cab.cab, and nueBatteryTPDiamondCDMA-106-v1.0-pack.zip at one time or another in an effort to make them work, which (in retrospect) seems like possibly a bad idea. Maybe not completely debilitating, but not a great idea. Long story short, weird crap like my battery reporting that it was completely low when fully charged, my WiFi being turned on (and couldn't be disabled) after a soft reset, and the phone generally misbehaving prompted me to do a hard reset. I took the next few hours to reinstall all my programs--omitting, of course, the taskbar stuff I'd fubared--and things were great... until the next day at work when the video began to act up. 3 hard resets later, with less and less added until testing on a clean install, I still got temperamental video performance. Everything from the bottom blind skewing into the softkey text to the camera juxtaposing right and left. Finally I reflashed the ROM and recreated the problem; flashed to an earlier version of Mighty and recreated the problem; then flashed to Silence and recreated the problem. At this point, I can only assume one of two things: 1. Either the particular nuePower/NueBattery cabs I installed were not correct for my phone (or the order in which I installed them), and created some sort of hardware problem, or... 2. My video went out and it simply coincided with the time I reflashed and was tinkering with my phone. Any thoughts or suggestions? |
Re: Didn't take long to break it...
have you tried going back to stock, sometimes it will restore something a custom rom may not. also some of the nue battery stuff doens't play well with 6.5 if I remember right... (me don't like 6.5) so I would check into that on his blog.. nuerom.com

Re: Didn't take long to break it...
it could possibly be a hardware problem. Im not sure what in the world those programs couldve done to screw it up SO BAD. But yu had a very thorough explanation and im sure someone will help a bit more.
However, my display was skewed a few times upon returning from standby and I noticed it happened when I installed the nuepower battery thing and also my video messed up when i put the .cab file to unlock the extra camera modes. I hard reset, flashed Mighty5 and hard reset again and ket it that way and ever since, its worked fine for me. Good Luck |

okay if you flash it tonight let us know how it went. Taking it in is the last resort. "/

Re: Didn't take long to break it...
ok, then you want only nuebattery and the cpl. (DO NOT use the titan/vouge driver)
also I have heard reports of wierd video glitches with nueclock/dynamic clock control |

Initially, I had installed the skdcerts, followed by tsowen taskbar, followed by the CPL. When that didn't work, I uninstalled in reverse order, soft reset again, and then installed skdcerts/taskbar/titan driver. That's when things started getting pretty fussy, where after multiple soft resets I was still getting my WiFi enabled and told that my 100% charged battery was about to die. So rather than deal with it, I figured **** it and hard reset. Then, no more WiFi issues or battery issues, but the display went to hell. ](*,) Is it possible that reinstalling Nuebattery and the CPL on a freshly flashed and hard-reset device could fix the video issues though? I know it's a stretch... but that's all I can do right now. |
Re: Didn't take long to break it...
It was nothing you did, I believe it is a hardware problem.
I have been running the original JD rom, for about 4-5 months, and everything has been golden. A week ago, my display just goes wonkers while i'm browsing on Opera. (I haven't installed or uninstalled anything in the past month). I was hoping someone else shared my problem. Also, I can't always turn my screen off, I have to hit the power button about 20 times before it will shut, but I recently found out if I slide it open a little(not enough to flip it to landscape, but just enough to see the space bar) and then hit the power key, it works fine. This leads me to believe that something is loose inside the phone, also due to the fact that when my screen is bugging out, a few soft thwacks to the side will sometimes fix it. The screen bug has made the phone practically unusable, and the only way I can actually get by is because I memorized where alot of buttons were, and also by guessing where they are, relative to where they are glitched (such as my bottom soft keys being shown in the middle of my screen, and what would be the left half of my screen shows on the right, and the right on the left.) I am really frustrated and hope that someone else has info on why, how this happens, and if there is a way to fix it. |

Now, with further testing, it seems I can also create the issue by just slightly opening the keyboard. Apparently when using the phone naturally in my hand, my thumb puts pressure on the upper left side of the display (above the volume keys), which slides that corner and the keyboard about 1/8th an inch apart. While doing that and attempting to navigate TF3D or something, the problem will happen every time. It's as if the phone isn't sure if it should landscape or not. |
