Re: Convert Altel Touch Pro to Verizon network
I also have an Alltel touch pro & the verizon merger will be complete in my area on 12 July. Verizon just sent me a package in the mail explaining the changes. From what it says, the switch to verizon will be transparent...phone & voicemail will be the same. You will still be able to receive txt messages at your "phonenumber@message.alltel.com" address, but will also be able to receive them at "phonenumber@vtext.com". The only thing I can't find info on is if data/mms will change. I'm assuming that will be transparent also, otherwise it will be a customer service nightmare for them. Guess I'll find out next weekend.
Now I just have to decide if I want to switch back to my Omnia after the merger. That was my intention all along, but I've gotten pretty attached to my touch pro. Nice phone once it's flashed and tweaked. I've also gotten spoiled with the hardware keyboard, don't know if I could go without one again...decisions,decisions. :drunken: |
Re: Convert Altel Touch Pro to Verizon network
You will have to convince Verizon to add the ESN of your touuch pro to their system. It can be a PITA but, since they are merging anyway, I can't see any reason for them not to.
PS ALLTEL has the worst customer support on the planet. I have been lied to every time I have called. |
Re: Convert Altel Touch Pro to Verizon network
Have them add your ESN for sure, i recently traveled on business matters and the other guy with me with had the verizon TP, me with the alltel TP. He had 3G and i did not :(

I have no problem whatsoever with customer support. I love the customer support actually. I guess you just gotta know what to say and how to say it. and I guess that's where being an ex customer service rep really comes in handy haha. |
Re: Convert Altel Touch Pro to Verizon network
I had VZW up until just last month and never had a problem with customer support. Always very helpful and friendly. With Alltel, one guy didn't even open my account until 25 minutes in to the phone call, and everything that he should have done anyway, I had to ask him to do. And, he made it sound like a chore. The other guy, lied to me about the technologies behind VZW and alltel. Not compatible, he said. "Really, so you're telling me that VZW's and Alltel's CDMA 800/1900Mhz bands are incompatible? Then VZW wouldn't have bothered with the acquisition."
Effing liars. All I asked was how soon I would be able to get coverage at work. With VZW I had awesome coverage. Now, nothing. |
Re: Convert Altel Touch Pro to Verizon network
I'm on verizon currently but I will be purchasing the alltel diamond is it as simple as calling and telling them to add the Esn?
|
Re: Convert Altel Touch Pro to Verizon network
Thanks to all who have helped. I thought it would be something that simple. I had talked to Verizon Friday and they told me no way... Didn't mention the ESN. They are wanting to sell new phones! So my only real decision is 3g or no 3g. How much real difference in speed is there?

Re: Convert Altel Touch Pro to Verizon network
Hey Butch, are you already on Alltel and being merged to VZ or are you buying an alltel TP to be placed on to your already existing VZ service? If you already have Alltel then you have nothing to worry about they will merge it all on the 12th.
Will PS Sorry about ur luck there Sprocket but alltel has been nothing but good 2 me. NOW VZW on the other hand that is a diff story. I spoke with a sprint store mgr who told me that I couldn't use my Alltel TP on Sprint cuz my alltel was GSM.. There is a quick way to lose business. Some peeps just don't know or mis-speak. Next time talk to a Smart phone tech support rep.. |

Re: Convert Altel Touch Pro to Verizon network
OMG, what are you people talking about in this thread? If you are an Alltel customer with an Alltel phone, you will not have to do anything at all. Your alltel phone and service will seamlessly swith to verizon when your market is complete.
Straight from the Alltel website, dont take my word for it. http://tinyurl.com/qsx693 A guy at work complained he had to buy a new Verizon Blackberry the other day, the same as his 2 month old perfectly working Alltel Blackberry. He claims the local retail store told him he had to buy it and his old phone would not work come the 12th. I didnt know whether to call him a liar because I see no way possible for the store to get away with this, or feel sorry for him being an idiot and getting ripped off. |
