Poor Signal While Connected To Data

So, this issue has come up for me lately, quite a pain.

I'm running Juicy 7, not the latest version, but there haven't been anything but Manila changes since my version. Sitting here at work, and in my apartment... if the phone's data connection isn't active, I'll have 5/5 bars, and all will work well. If something enables the data connection, it drops to 1/5 bars, usually 0/5... I will start to miss calls and texts, but the data connection will work fine, very fast and with low latency (tested via tethering).

DDTM mode is set to enable, before anyone mentions that. I just miss the calls because the signal is so low.

I remember reading a while back about some sort of poisoning, where the phone connects to two points on the tower for EVDO access, and it can cause problems like I'm seeing. Does any one recognize what I'm trying to say? And what can I do to correct it?

Also, Sprint has 3G coverage entirely around here, and my TP has had HORRIBLE reception when compared to any other Sprint phone I've seen. My roomate's BB pearl, for example, gets 4/5 bars where my TP sees 0/5. I know bars aren't relevant, but my TP skips in calls when this is happening, and his BB does not. Even my Helio got great service.

I tried it, no better.

I'm using the Telus radio, it's done it with all the radios, though. The sprint stock radio seemed to lose calls more often than the Telus radio.

This is what I'm talking about... sitting idle on the desk:

Then, just moved to the weather tab and had it update, and this is what I get now.

Phone never moved... and now I know I'll be missing calls and texts will come very late unless I manually disable the data connection.

I don't entirely need it, but may end up using it anyway. A thanks for your efforts, regardless :)

My real question is about the connection to two points on the tower. It may have been in the radio thread? I guess I'll get to looking, I was just hoping someone knew.

Re: Poor Signal While Connected To Data

It was always my understanding that 1x was somewhere around 115kbp/s about 2x as fast as the fastest dial up 54kbps ... and EVDO r0 and rA capitalize on this bc they use multiple streams of that 1x to get your speed that you are seeing I think r0 was 5x 1x @ best so theoretically with r0 u could max out around 575kbp/s I think rA might be something like 15 or 20 (1x streams) else how would u get such fast speeds. So you were right about the radio connecting to more then one, however its alot more then 2 points.

Been running Mighty 4.16 almost since i got TP and I just started experiencing this exact same problem last night and I have no idea what is causing it. I reflashed to stock and it still didn't make a difference. I'm starting to think it might be a hardware problem because I never had any problems before last night, but I'll have to check with my friends to see if they're having any data issues. I'm in Arlington, TX.
