Annoying Battery Life

My phone is annoying as hell, but so damn addictive, I can't return it back to the store.

My PRIMARY complaint, is the the text message back lighting. Before, out of the box, the phone would just vibrate and play my text message tone, and not wake the phone. But now, the phone screen is turned on, my backlight is set to bright, and everytime I receive a text message, I get a Vibrate, Tone, and my screen stays on for like 2-3 mintues.

Sprint picture mail is not ending anything to anyone. "Sending Message <date> " has been in my inbox for the past 72 hours.

Please advise!!!
