411 about customizing my HTC Touch Pro
 

I've been looking all around the forum and yet I am still confused about the whole ROM, Flashing, OS and other programs. I want to get the most out of my Touch Pro but I don't know exactly where to start and what is necessary and what a lot of things basic concepts mean. Is there like a WiKi of words like for the iPhone? ( i jumped from iPhone[ATT] to TP[Sprint SERO] ). Informative replies will be thanked!

First off i would suggest you flash a custom rom! makes the phone 100 times better IMHO!

to do this follow my guide to unlock the phone first!

First off download this file ---> UNLOCKER
then connect your phone to the computer.
Extract the files in Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037.zip
then run the program.
it will look like you are about to flash a rom.
go through the steps it tells you to on the unlocker screen.
It will then proceed to unlock your phone! DO NOT UNPLUG IT!
it will take a while and seem to freeze on 0%

after this is complete your phone is unlocked!


After you do this find a rom you want to try,
download extract the rom and run
ROMUpdateUtilty to flash the rom! it is very easy
and wayyyy to addicting!

another program that lets you change a lot of colors is UItweaker
also changing the theme of touch flo 3d makes it look much better!
if you have the stock sprint rom, then install a theme like --> THIS

also download PIMbackup 2.8 to backup all of your contacts.
just extract the file and place it in your storage card! theres no cab to install this!

thank you guys, all good information for future references. also what do you mean unlocked? carrier unlocked? or phone is unlocked for more apps?

neither of those. it unlocks the bootloader so you can flash custom roms and radios!

I ran the unlocker. Now how big is a ROM file suppose to be? when I install a new ROM will it delete my contacts and email information? I am trying to install the PsykiROM any quick tips?

good job!
a rom file will completly replace your phones current stock rom.
you will loose all of your data so i suggest you use the program PIM backup i posted earlier. it will save all of your contacts, messages, emails, calendars, etc. but not programs.
when you install it after the new rom boots for the first time do a hard reset!

so how big is a ROM? the psykiROM is like 91MBs? and how to I install it into my TP?

it doesnt really matter how big a rom is because it replaces the current rom on your phone
do you have msn messanger or aim?
it would be much easier to talk on that
