Backup before upgrade, restore after

I'd like to try out one of the new WM6.5 roms.. Can I backup everything on my phone as it is now and restore it once I upgrade? I would hate to re-install all those programs, contact, etc..

Re: Backup before upgrade, restore after

I haven't tried Sprint when going from a WM6.1 to a WM6.5 ROM, so I'm not sure how well that would work, but you could always try it and if it doesn't work then hard reset. Then if you decide to go back to WM6.1 you'll have a backup you can restore.

Re: Backup before upgrade, restore after

mindfrost82,

I backed up everything on my device using Sprite.. I upgraded the rom to WM6.5.. I installed Sprite and restored everything, but my contacts did not restore (although text messages and emails have names and contacts on them.. strange..)..

No biggie, as I can just sync with my Outlook and get the contact info.. However, my Fuze is not syncing at all now (only charging)... I don't even get the "ding-dong" happy connect sound when I plug it up.. What am I missing? I feel like if I can sync, everything will be back to normal..

Edit: got it, had to uncheck 'enable faster transfer' under USB settings.. Works!

That was going to be my suggestion lol. I have to do that on my 64-bit Vista laptop, but I can leave it checked on my 32-bit XP Pro one.

Re: Backup before upgrade, restore after

even though some backup programs have an "upgrade mode" they still are not as good as reinstalling everything after you flash.

lots of little bugs/problems people have are because of restoring from one of these backups. use at your own risk...

Re: Backup before upgrade, restore after

yeah i recently used sbp backup, sprite backup, and then resco backup to backup my goodies from 6.1 and restored them in 6.5. I encountered quite a few issues regarding registry issues and the today titanium screen in win mo 6.5 didnt show up after i restored, hard resetted, restored with all 3 of these products. be careful what you backup in the /windows directory
