Do I need to get another Touch Pro?!
 

ok so i bought the touch pro in early march. within the first 4 days i had to exchange it for a new one because the battery was bad (i know the stock rom blew with battery but it would die withing 30 minutes and all connections off) so the sprint store replaced it on the spot and i was cruising with a couple roms for 3 weeks no prob. a few days ago the screen started glitching and wouldnt want to turn on or off when i pressed the power button. then the screen would start shifting all over the place. i flashed to a few other roms and did a few hard resets to see if it would fix it and even the boot loader screen was jumbled. now today only the backlight goes on and i cant do anything on my phone! it wont even hard reset either! active sync isnt connecting either.

so im at a loss here and after that huge story i would appreciate anyones input on what to do here. thanks very much guys

Ummm no, you need to stop flashing your phone and installing ROMs.

im pretty sure the majority of people on this forum are running on custom roms :) my big question is is there anything i can do to get my phone back to normal without bringing it in for servicing.

HAHA what kind of advice is that for a place like PPC.

I would say try the relocker and then reload a stock rom and bring it back to sprint...if I read your post right (I'm in class pretending to listen to a lecture :-) .

Right, and 95% of the time they are the ones who run into problems with things not working and blame the phone when its the custom ROM that caused it. Not to mention if you brick the phone you void your warranty. Nice way to throw $300 in the toilet. I am just saying, dont blame your phone for problems I am 99% sure your custom ROM has caused.

really...haha. nowhere in my post did i say it was the phone's fault. in fact i did not say it was the ROMs fault either. but if you can not offer me some helpful advice like cd85233 has done then please do not tell me "Ummm no, you need to stop flashing your phone and installing ROMs." and if 95% of people are screwed up like me then why isnt this forum littered with problems like mine?

cd85233, that was my first instinct but i cant connect to active sync. i cant hard reset either for some odd reason. i even took the battery out for 3 hours (while i work) to see if maybe the screen would show for a minute and i could flash to stock and relock. any other ideas please??? maybe some magic button combo :mrgreen:

my suggestion is to flash it back to the sprint rom and take it in to be replaced

that's really exactly what i want to do. but i cant flash back because i cant get to the bootloader, cant see the bootloader, and cant connect with activesync in order to do the flash.

if i bring it in as is and they see im running a custom rom (cause i cant flash back), will they turn me away?

Yep. As I said. once you do that to the phone, you void your warranty. if you cant get the stock ROM back, you are SOL.

If there is any possibility of them realizing you've flashed a custom ROM, then you absolutely cannot take it to the store. The only thing you can do is "lose" it and file a claim with Asurion... I suggest you do that before the new deductible goes into effect.

I'm 99% sure you can't prove your 95% statistic! Good luck with that anti custom rom campaign, it's bound to catch on here any day.


quebert- I brought my second to last dead Mogul to a Sprint repair center with it stuck in Nuespl bootloader. I couldn't relock and worried that they would reject the phone as altered. They didn't even look at the screen.

I have had the screen issue were it won't turn off or on and here is a shocker, are you ready, I am running a stock sprint ROM. There I said it, I feel so much better now. A soft reset fixed mine, but it came back 2 weeks later. If it gets worse I am taking mine in.

I think that last post makes it 88.2351% of statistics. But I believe you. LMFAO! I'm not sure if I'm understanding properly, but does the screen come on at all? Do the hard keys work at all, specifially the center button? I know it's not easy to use navigating until you get the hang of it, but any buttons working would help.

On my phone it looks like it is in sleep mode, but it will not respond to touching the screen or to any button presses, only a soft rest.

I have nothing against custom ROMs, dont be stupid. What I do have an issue with is people flashing their phone, installing ROMs and then crying when it stops working right. Leave the phone as is if you arent willing to take the risk of it breaking.

I had this same issue. My screen began to jumble and bounce around. I did a soft-reset, and the splash screens loaded in 3 places. After I let Winblows load completely, I did another soft-reset. After this, there was 0 display. There was power going to it (you could see the black screen illuminate), but there was no display at all. I could receive calls, so the phone wasn't "bricked". I took it in to a Sprint repair store, and walked out with a brand new one 20 minutes later.

I would just suggest taking it in. If there isn't a display anymore, they should just give you a new phone without any question.

yeah ok i think that's what im going to do (bring it back and let them see that only the backlight goes on). it's not bricked cause the hard keys still work and i can recieve calls too. and ya know what...when i get a new one...im going right back to flashing them sweet 'ol custom roms! :mrgreen:
