Error installing .NET CF 3.5 Redistributable

I searched and couldn't find anything. Stock ROM, new Touch Pro. When I try to install it, the progress bar gets all the way to the end then I get this

Quote:

Installation error. Stop all applications and processes, maximize available storage space, and run installation again. Support info: 2.
I closed everything, turned off TF3D, and am around 50% of my RAM used. Still no dice ](*,). Any advice?

Hi there, give this a try, it should solve your issues installing,
Solution:
1. download mobile registry editor
2. delete entry \local machine\software\microsoft\netcompactframework (delete all of it)
3. re-install net compact framework 3.5

Is there a reg editor that is better than others? Any should I avoid? Or are they all pretty much the same?

I personally like sktools registry editor the best, that and memmaid, but both of those are paid apps. There's some free ones available, that i hear are just as good, but i cant recall the names of them, sorry. Maybe total commander?

Never ever delete the whole NETCompactFramework, the reason being, the NCF 2.0.7045.00, 2.0.7048.00 are also in the there, a lot of apps still need these files... The only file to be deleted is the NCF 3.5 and it's to be reinstalled immediately with the updated version NCF 3.5, never ever delete the whole thing... You will cause problems for your TP, it will act very erratic...:drunken:

Thaaaat would be bad. The only thing I need is the file explorer to find and install the .cab, would all of that be messed up if I wiped it all?

If you're right about that, oops, my apologies for posting bad info. I had just read on 2 other forums, that the solution i posted worked. But, circumstances may have been different. Thanks for correcting me Tech.

Im not super knowledgeable regarding net compact framework, but i read it'll support applications developed for NCF 1.0 and 2.0. So it sounds like you should be good. May wanna confirm that.

No! you still need the 2.0 files, all files on our TP does not use the 3.5 file, some still use the 2.0, but I understand just what you are asking...

Go to my thread here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=59820 ... Go down to the 'Added Video Accessories Area", there, you will find the updated 3.5 version and the latest 2.0 version, also you will find the installation instructions there......:drunken:

Re: Error installing .NET CF 3.5 Redistributable

In my registry settings HKLM/software/microsoft/net compact framework, it shows 2 versions, 2,0 and 3.5. 2.0 has a value of 0 and 3.5 a value of 1. So, does the value of 2.0 being 0, mean its disabled, and if it is, does it still need to be there? I guess thats where im confused.

Yes, the 2.0 files still needs to be there, they are very important files, that's the reason you only delete the 3.5 file.....:drunken:

If you guys are thinking, well I got the 3.5 NCF installed on my TP, it will take care of all the apps on my TP, this is not true. You will still need those 2.0 NCF files...

](*,)](*,)](*,)](*,)](*,)I'm about to go kick some puppies. I went to install 2.0, and it told me there is a newer version installed, then the install failed. So I tried the 3.5 .cab, and got the exact same error message! Why cant I just get this thing installed!

this is the thread that must have confused me about uninstalling ncf 2.0 not sure if uninstalling and getting rid of a registry key is the same thing or not. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=347537

Still no dice. Can I just get a cooked ROM with 3.5 installed? Or do I need 3.5 to install a new ROM?

Run a back up of your device and give it a shot. worst that can happen is you restore to your current state. I still believe you can do what first posted to your question. Did you happen to read that tread i linked a couple posts up? Back up and take a chance :)

I just updated build of windows from 19xxx to 21028 and its stock rom with only net 3.5 , so I not sure if you need both or not.

I have tried everything suggested on both XDA-developers and here. And no matter what I do, I get the same message. The whole reason I am doing this is to install a cooked ROM anyways. So if I can just install one now and be done with it, I'll be happy. But this thread made it sound like I needed 3.5 before http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=42503

If you are going to cook a rom it is usually cooked in.
