Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

I'm not sure if this is a double post, but since I couldn't find one pertaining to this, thought I should share.

For those of you out there that are planning on buying a Sprint Touch Pro to use on Verizon's network, the switch over instructions on this site are no longer valid. Go to the last few pages and you'll see why. The phone can NOT be activated on Verizons network any longer. The *228 option 3 hole has been plugged up. Apparently they figured out how to piss us off again earlier this week.

If you have a Sprint Touch Pro that's already on the VZW network, you're safe for the moment. Just don't attempt to switch phones and then try and go back to using your Sprint branded Touch Pro. It just flat out won't activate.

Some have rumored that they have been able to convince Verizon to add the ESN from their phone to the VZW database, but it doesn't sound like many have much success with it.

Admins: Please sticky this thread to save people the expense and time of going through all the steps. Maybe we could force an update on the first page of the original thread, but still leave it in place as the settings for QPST that are listed there are still a great source of good VZW info.

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

for sure I know I haven't...which prompts me to switch services when my contract ends with them.
There is small rate of success with an meid add. Even the supervisor told me that they couldn't do it because the phone isn't supported (then why did it work on the network idiot)
que sera sera. Its weird either vzw comes out with an ungimped and inexpensive device or people are going to leave in droves. This was the last straw for many business customers struggling whether to switch or not.
Not to get on a huge rant, but its ludicrous. Verizon has lost their mind. Their data plans may be superior but at the cost is far too much

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

From the pricing guide I got with Sprint, Verizon's data plan isn't really superior in any way. For as many lines as I have, I'll be saving money making the switch. I already know what the termination fees are, and I'm heading to Sprint this afternoon to have a sales person give me the grand total for service on 4 new lines.

And about it not being supported, COME ON! I actually had a customer service rep tell me that the technology was different. He said Verizon uses CDMA, and Sprint is TDMA. WTF??? The customer service folks are so uneducated that it sometimes feels like I'm talking to a 4 year old about my service when I call.

Verizon really does suck anymore...

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

I just recently, made the switch from verizon to sprint, for the sole reason that I wanted the touch pro, and the verizon version was ugly as hell and crippled....and so far I am completely happy with the Service and Network...No dropped calls at all, so far!
I think there should be a law put into place that says, cellular companies should not be allowed to "Force" you to buy there equipment if you already own a device that will work on their network....What if Your home telephone company was allowed to do the same! You would have to buy all new phones for your home? That would be rediculous right? Well, what is the difference? Why should cellular companies be allowed to do this?
I bought the Sprint TP figuring that if I was not happy with Sprint's service, I could always activate my phone back on verizons network...Well guess what Verizon....You just screwed yourself out of a potentual return customer!
And they wonder why there is a need for "Hacks & Cracks"

Price has nothing to do with it, VZ's network coverage is better than Sprint's period. I actually lost a business account when Sprint failed to deliver an extremely important text for something like 8 hours & the guy (who was a prick) got pissed that I was "ignoring him".........

I had Sprint for two years & had tons of problems that totally disappeared as soon as I switched to VZ. I travel all over the country on business & Sprint's network simply is not good enough for me (unfortunately, because it certainly is cheaper)

That being said, this cr@p VZ is pulling now is really puzzling. Why they would even want to block anybodies phone is puzzling as the monthly fee is where their income comes form, not hardware sales.

I am using a Sprint TP right now on my VZ account (Mighty ROM), but I will be pretty careful what changes I make from here on out.....

gonna thank ya for that. They are losing customers with htis plan at least in the pocket pc department. Looking at the specs of the rhodium verizon is getting, it won't be a world wide phone like the sprint variant (so in many respects, that seems like a cripple) but we will see...
october is my official month last for vzw. If I had extra scratch I would cancel vzw tonight...they've put me through hell
I had to return two moguls to get one refurbished debt off my account (that still isn't off), the customer service lacks more knowledge than a dog, and they have the superiority of what we say is the truth despite the fact that they all say different things and no one know what to follows.
Truth be told, would it be fair to say we know more than supervisors? Probably. Should the supervisors be aware of this? It would help. but of course it is what it is

Me too...I love me some Sprint. I have been on VZW before...and I would NEVER go back...I think they suck. I dont find their service superior to Sprints at all...I have had much better luck with Sprint.

Long live Sprint!

Everyone's experience will vary. For instance, after running with BOTH Verizon and Sprint, at the same time for almost a month, I can tell you, in my area, and the areas I travel, Sprint is NOTICEABLY better, especially in their data coverage.

Beyond that tho, Verizon's pricing is just too high for me, nevermind the way they handle their hardware.

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

Was in the Sprint store yesterday with the wife checking out the service and equipment...

The whole family is on board and very excited about unlimited data for ALL 4 LINES we have!

Verizon charges so damn much for data (and lacks a family data package) that we've only been able to afford data for 2 of our lines with them. With Sprint, we'll have unlimited data, text, picture messaging, and 100 more minutes a month to use for less money than we pay Verizon for what we have now.

Verizon $225/mo. (4 lines, 1400 minutes, 250 texts per line, unlimited data for 2 lines)
Sprint $175/mo. (4 lines, 1500 minutes, UNLIMITED texting, unlimited data for 4 LINES!)

Bye bye Verizon

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

I don't know why people insist on posting post after post after post about how Sprint is cheaper. There has never been any argument about that. If Sprint charged what they do & had service/coverage that was equal (or even close) to what VZ provides, nobody would ever sign up for Verizon again.

That is not the case however, I have had both services & I can truthfully say this is a perfect case of "you get what you pay for". We have a corporate account through where I work & we could switch tomorrow to any service available if we wanted to.

I work in IT & I get a lot of the calls transferred to me from our people in the field when they are *****!ing/complaining about cell service problems. Last years, we swapped almost 80 phones from Sprint to VZ service (& it certainly wasn't to save money). Complaint calls on the cell service has dropped probably 95% since the change (I don't think I field two calls a month at this point, when we had Sprint service we darn near had to assign a person full time to this type of cr@p) We where CONSTANTLY smoothing over problems where a corporate customer was justifiably upset because they didn't receive a timely response to an SMS that either never arrived at all or was 8 hours late because Sprint couldn't deliver it in a timely manner.

Really I think it's an easily corrected issue by Sprint. It's not their architecture that seems to be the problem. I used Helio for a year, and never had texts come in late. Helio, in case you don't know, is a Sprint MVNO - they rent Sprint's network. There's just something with Sprint's SMS servers, or the way that it is handled on the individual phones that causes the problem of texts not coming through with decent reception. A friend of mine had the Katana II (yes, piece of crap phone) on Sprint but she never had the delayed text (and calls which never ring) issues that I have with my TP.

I hope they will catch it though. Service coverage is pretty much a moot point, due to the free roam agreement between the companies for customers. Verizon just charges way too much for me to want to bother considering them... Their plans border on just plain retarded.

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

My take on this is that Verizon might be superior for some people that are not covered well by Sprint, each case is different.

However that's not true for everybody. In a lot of areas the networks are pretty much equivalent.

If I get perfect service, cheaper and with great data speeds why would I go to another network to get the same thing but spending more money.

So use whatever service satisfy your needs. In my book Sprint is perfect. No data or voice issues, great speeds and have been up and running for 8 years. The amount of money I've saved. For other people Sprint doesn't give good coverage so Verizon is the smart move.

Oh and a big plus; so far I haven't had to find workarounds to make the phones from other carriers work in my network.

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

I've had a Sprint TP on Verizon for about 3 weeks with no problems. Bought another one two days ago for the wife. Went through the tutorial then tried *228/3 several times yesterday with no luck. Finally called Vzw CS and tried to BS my way through getting it activated. Was finally transferred to Tier 2 Tech support and the very nice lady who I spoke to (who I finally leveled with about what I was trying to do) spent almost an hour and a half on the phone with me MANUALLY activating the second Sprint TP on Vzw! However, she never was able to get Data provisioned. Voice and text were and still are fine.

This morning however, MY TP which has been perfect for weeks, suddenly lost data and I started receiving Error 67 (?) codes and popups that told me my PowerVision (remember, I'm on Vzw) password and login were incorrect.

Hopefully this is temporary or I now have several very expensive paperweights.

Only got error 67 when I tried to update the weather. All other data just wouldn't connect. Now all seems to be fine. Maybe it was just a Verizon Network issue.
I'm on Long Island in NY. Don't know if it was a local issue. Maybe it was a warning from Verizon!

John-

Did you do anything special to bring it back? I am getting ready to flash my TP back to the vzw rom (to enable ## codes), and enter the shared keys from my old XV6800 and try it again.

The only thing I did today at work when this started was to go into EPST on the phone and delete my shared coded and try to force back into 1X. Unfortunately I was unable to do so. The one time I'm not happy about my GREAT coverage at work! :disgust: :)

Not that it is necessarily a regional issue but I am in Northern Va/Washington DC area.

All I did was soft reset & it's been working fine ever since.

I would have to reflash to use the ## codes as they don't work with my current ROM, but at this point I don't really need to.

Copying/pasting the keys from a xv6800 is how I got data working in the first place.

thats odd because my sprint tp gave me issues today with connecting and was giving me that error. I figured because i just flashed the new juicy 5 w/tp2. I just loaded in my carrier cab i forgot to load and it resest. Been good since. Havent had that problem in a long time. My contract ends next month, if this phone stops working, I might go at&t as i just dont like sprint. I do like verizon but some of their policies suck. That and i think i went over my 5gb limit...oops...

Update (with no real results except for what DIDN'T work).

So, two Sprint TP's. One working perfectly for two plus weeks. One manually activated by Tech Support last night for voice and text (no data).

First TP lost data this morning and never regained. I have -

1. Soft reset several times - NO GO

2. Hard reset and restored from backup - NO GO

3. Cleared HA and AAA secret keys through BAF MSL Grabber ---> EPST

4. Wrote HA and AAA secret keys from XV6800 by copying from QDXM and pasting to notepad --> transferring to mem card ---> opening on TP and highlight and CTRL-C ---> paste into EPST (via BAF MSL Grabber) with CTRL-Shift - NO GO

Second TP which was manually activated last night still has perfect voice and text but does not and never did have data. I tried all of the above on this one as well with the same outcome.

I'm still not ready to lay down on this but I'm getting close.

veedubguru 03-22-2009 11:14 PM

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

The easiest way I've found to get into EPST no matter the rom is to use file explorer and navigate to \Windows\EPST.exe.

And as far as who has better coverage, Sprint or VZW... they are both CDMA right? From what I understand (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) when you're on either carrier and you step out of your coverage area, your device will automatically roam on the other carriers network. My VZW phone has roamed on Sprint a few times, and visa-versa with my buddy's Sprint unit on VZ's network.

So no matter who you're with, you'd be using BOTH carriers towers (if needed by your device). And if you have a nationwide plan you don't pay roaming.

Like I said, I could be wrong, but from my own experience this is the case. It's also been explained this way to me by a few VZ and Sprint reps. SO... if this holds true, price IS the main difference.

But all the "Verizon sucks", "Sprint sucks" talk is a bit off the initial topic. I wasn't trying to start a carrier war. My initial post wasn't the first time I've put up about Verizon pissing me off, but my intent was to warn people about the problem. (No need for the Verizon folks to take it personal, I just don't like how they do business.) I could write a full page post about all the issues I've had with VZW since I've signed, but it wouldn't do anyone any good... there are so many of those type of posts out there about VZW already. I've seen hardly any posts about Sprint people that are mad about anything.

Does it make sense that when you do a "whois" search on the domain name "www.verizonsucks.com", you find out that Verizon Wireless owns it along with several other "anti-Verizon" domains? VZW being paranoid? I think not. From similar searches with the Sprint name, they don't seem to be as worried... Just an observation... Don't shoot me VZW peeps. :)

BTW... I never had those data issues today... must have been a location based issue.

Don't use notepad, use wordpad. Make sure you save the file in rich text format (rtf). I had the same problem too when copying them.

Not sure if that will solve your problem, but it does make sure you're copying them correctly.

Mighty Is a Telus User There ## codes are as follows (ill use pst as an example)

##778#

instead of ##778 SEND on verizon derived roms. all the other codes should be the same format ##<code># instead of ##<code>SEND
