Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

I had a VZ tech add an MEID for me a few weeks ago. I knew the guy, but he left Verizon shortly after adding it for me.

if anyone does know a tech that will add MEIDs please PM me their name and contact info. I'd like to get mine added if it was a reasonably sure thing that I could.

I'm going to echo helix139's sentiments if any one knows someone on the inside that can get it done it would be greatly appreciated. Please PM me and let me know some contact info. I understand that there's really nothing in it for them but a gold star but a multitude of thanks would be handed out. Especially after I got so close with the tech I got off the phone with telling me about the 3 week "testing" option that I'm not too sure about...

This is Jan again, and I wanted to provide a more in depth explanation, so you would understand the reason for the denial of that phone.

Stephen, Verizon Wireless understands the customer’s needs to have open access firmware in the phone, and not use phones with the Verizon Wireless firmware, however we have the Verizon Wireless firmware in our phones for more than just one reason. The utmost is the security of the Verizon Wireless network.

Many open access firmware opens the gate to customers GPS locations that can be tracked by others without permission, enable phones to hack into security codes of the code division multiple access power band, and will not work with many digital applications that Verizon Wireless uses. We stand behind our products and firmware to keep the network secure and our customers safe. Until the LTE format is fully operational, you will not see open firmware phones on Verizon Wireless unless the phone is approved by our technical staff first.

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience.

My name is Jan, and I truly apologize that you did not receive a response to the other emails you sent.

Stephen, it appears that you had stated your were going to take the phone to the store regarding the issues with having the phone technicians. I am sorry that you did not receive a response to the emails in question.

I do want to assure you it is the same team that processes your second or third email, as handle the initial email you send. As was stated in John's email, the limitations of a phone from another carrier can be frustrating, and I am sorry that the process was not clearly explained to you. To be honest with you, the occasional activation of a phone from another carrier is not common, which may have caused some confusion with the initial communication you mentioned.

I have escalated the question about your ESN from the Sprint phone to our firmware specialists, and have been advised this particular equipment is not approved for use on your network, and the ESN was removed from our database. This is why the phone worked for a short while, and than did not. Because this phone does not have the firmware that is compatible with the Verizon Wireless network, it could possibly harm the network. I am sorry that you will not be able to use this phone on the Verizon Wireless CDMA system.

Again, I apologize for the frustration this may have been to you. We value your business, and thank you for being our customer at Verizon Wireless since 1998.

So if I am reading correctly they just all of a sudden kicked your Sprint TP off the network for no reason? I'm wondering if I should just get rid of my Sprint TP and get the Alltel version which they "should" add no problem.

I don't believe that is the case.

I haven't heard of anybody who had their Sprint TP working on VZ just being "kicked off". What usually happens is a problem arises which messes up the activation & then even though your phone worked just fine for the last 4 months all of a sudden you can't get it activated again.......

I still have one Sprint TP that was activated on VZ the "old way". That phone has been activated since early November & continues to work just fine.

I have two newer Sprint TP's that where added to VZ by other methods & all three work just fine.

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

I haven't really kept up with the treads for a month or so, work has been quite the pain lately, and yes I've tried searching but haven't found what I'm looking for.

Q: For us Sprint TP on VzW people, does this latest release allow us to get the *228 functionality back without having to load the modified PRL to remove the roaming icon?

I assume the new PRI would allow us to use the *228 to download the proper Verizon PRL, which would mean we are using Verizon approved PRI and PRL and still having the GPS, Data and Voice capabilities. I just want to see if anyone has.

1. Loaded the new Verizon PRI (which version was it)
2. Does GPS/Voice/Data continue to work fine (I assume it would)
3. Does *228 result in full PRL download without roaming icon?
4. Did you try the new VzW radio? If so, did it improve anything over the other radios (I'm using 1.07.06F and find it pretty balanced). How was the battery life?

Thanks + Kudos (and no, unfortunately not the snack bar) come your way for valid responses.

+1 on the new Verizon ROM. I posted the same question here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...postcount=1225. I'll cross post any answers.

No matter what PRI you use, you'll still need a modified PRL to get rid of the roaming triangle. nobody seems to know why this is. I've loaded the new PRI without a problem and attempted the *228 update. I havent yet updated the radio as I'm waiting for more more of a consensus as to performance.

I've grown annoyed by WM6.5 and was going to flash to Mighty R3BORN anyway so I'll run the full ROM upgrade from Verizon and see what versions / performance changes are and report back.

I'm curious what you don't like about 6.5??

I have been running merdin's 6.5 for a while now & I absolutely LOVE it.

About the only thing I didn't like was the stupid start menu, but that's easily fixed with QuickMenu......
