Dilemna: Avoiding screen presses in holster!!

OK, here's what's happening and I have to believe others are also having these issues and would like to know the most reasonable way to solve it hence the new post.
Using pocketshield 2.6 works well to lock the phone but I have my TP set to check for new email on 2 different accounts every 15 minutes. The phone wakes up and then is susceptible to screen pressure in the pouch and inadvertently starts programs and causes other havoc in the pouch. Needless to say this also effects the already minimal battery life. Do I have to switch email "to check manually" to avoid wakeup in the pouch? Obviously incoming phone calls wakes it up and I know and answer accordingly. Incoming sms also wakes it up and provides audible notification which isn't really an issue.
I am using windows live to synch with my msn account as well as a pop3 account separately. I've only had my TP for a couple months. Others have dealt with this no doubt.
