orb question yet again

hey everybody, i set up orb on my computer last week, yesterday i finally had a chance to play with it on a few devices. first i tried it on my ipod touch using my wifi connection and the live tv stream was just awsome. so i hit the road using my touch pro and first the stream was really crapy using opera internet browser. the stream was real choppy, you couldn't even make out what i was watching. i then used internet explorer and the stream was real better but it would buffer every 5 seconds. both internet browsers used windows media player to play the stream. then i used my brother's iphone and the stream was way better than my touch pro. He had 3g connection and i had EV connection.

The questions i have for right now is is there any way to make the stream to my touch pro any better? trying to watch march madness gets hectic on the road when the stream keeps buffering.

and also when using the video out feature on the phone, is there anyways i can set another web browser when i click on internet instead of using opera?

thank you in advance
chris

Re: orb question yet again

it shouldn't really matter what browser u use, what matters is what player is streaming
and how fast is it trying to stream
the best way to enjoy ORB is at the bottom of the browser screen u will see speeds, internet speeds, lower it.
change the internet speed to a slower one and keep doing it until one works with no buffering

Orb's automatic speed assessment works fine for me. How many bars of EVDO service are you getting in comparison to the ipod touch's WIFI signal? You know that WIFI is going to be way better than an EVDO connection right? Test the theory out by trying orb with your WIFI connection on your Touch Pro.

Re: orb question yet again

If you usually have relatively decent service go into settings on the orb page and set the bandwidth to 500 of 550 kb/ps this is what i use and I rarely get any buffering issues. The problem is that when orb detects your speed it doesn't allow for the fact that cellular interenet connections can fluctuate at times.

Also if you just want to change the link for the tv pop up window only and you still want opera as you default browser you can edit this reg entry.

HKLM/Software/HTC/TVOutPopUp/3_AP_LINK

change the string value to
\windows\iexplore.exe

hey, i tried everything u guys said and i still can't get to quit buffering every 5-15 seconds. i tried adjusting the internet connection speed on windows media player, i've tried adjusting the web speed and upstream speed on the orbs page settings on my pc, is there anyway i can get another player to bring up my streams, maybe it's windows media player? or it could be me being stupid, lol, u guys let me know, thanks

edit : i'm getting 4 - 6 bars in evdo

edit 2 : im currently playing a baseball game on my phone which its still buffering , its says 66kps on top of the video, at one point yesterday , it was in the 700s

Silly question, what's your broadband speed @ home? It may be lower then your EVDO download speed. Or worse, if your PC with orb has to do a lot of transcoding to squeeze the video down it can get laggy.

There are a number of options for the codec/format of the streaming video, you could try a different format and see if that works better as well.

Setting the speed manually to a lower speed should help if everything else is up to snuff. I can get stable crappy video at lower speeds.

Re: orb question yet again

There's a number of things that could slow it down.
The CPU has to do the transcoding as already mentioned. It uses up to 60% of my dual core CPU.
I limit my "web" and "upstream" speeds to the same as the 320kb/s on the phone.
I can do 600kb/s but I like the extra leeway just in case. No buffering at all.

Just buy a big SD card and load everything on it. Much easier and you do not have to worry about connection speeds.
