I'm noticing some sort of disturbance in the force

Internet Sharing (included in my plan) and its reacting very strange, only working after a reset for a few minutes at a time, disconnecting etc etc since yesterday

I also have tried this hack and I am having the same problem of a grey connect button. is this hack for the Diamond as well?

so after i download the file in the third post, what am i suppose to do? sorry for being noob :( i see two files in the zip the _setup.xml and TETHER~1.000 the tether file is extractable thanks alot people :)

WOW you guys are amazing. I wish someone will post steps for using my new SPRINT HTC PRO 2 as a modem. I heard it is not possible yet. I don't want to believe that, but i do not have a choice. I am new at this things. I used to have the treo pro 850 and i was able to do it without any extra downloads.

1. is it possible to tether using my SPRINT HTC PRO 2 on a mac? If so, could someone help me out. I did some search on ppcgeeks and found lots of inf that just confused the heck out of me.

NOTE: I am a noob so please understand this when helping. lol

Ahh i followed the instructions,


[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Extension=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]

but "Sprint PCS" keeps resetting back to "phone as modem"
after a restart or refreshing the registry to make sure its still their
must be a policy somewhere

any one else have this issue?

I didnt install anything, just reg changes, i read at other places to wait 5 min then reset but, it changes back with out even reseting, i use ce regedit, but wat i wanna no is wats wrong wit using phone as modem vs sprint connection type, i read that people say use sprint instead of phone as modem connection type but no one explains why,

Same problem here. I have gotten an internet connection through my phone once, but it usually doesn't work. After a failure, I use CeRegEditor to discover the registry has reset to "Phone as Modem". I'm stumped.

Are you using the new version of the Sprint ROM for the Touch Pro? I have heard that this new version will check for these changes to the Registry and reset them when ever you reboot. The process that does this is HTC_CM_Guardian.exe. Check out This Thread to read about how to disable this.

If the tips in this thread aren't working for you. I've used the tips in this link in the past for tethering, it's not as hard to do as it looks when you first read the page and it works, at least it worked for me.

I finally got it to work (Sprint HTC Pro).

1) install the cab to kill the Guardian file, cab file is attached to post #1 of this thread
2) install the cab file to allow internet tethering, click here

I had to reinstall the default ROM from the HTC site. I was trying several things and eventually my whole phone became worthless. I couldn't even make a call. I reinstalled and did the above two steps, and now everything works. Hopefully you won't have to reinstall the ROM to get it to work. I'm pretty sure I had to because I screwed something up. I didn't even know what a ROM was until two days ago.

But wat no one explains is the reason to use "Sprint" as the connection vs using "phone as modem"? they both alow teathering? so wats the difference?
I guessing that using "phone as modem" connection option tells sprint u r tethering, while using "sprint" connection tricks sprint into thinking ur just using internet on the device its self,

Well am i right or wrong?

you dont install XML files.. if u dbl click it open.. its just txt code... you Place xml's where needed,just copy paste or move where needed...

i suggest everyone from this point on, just goto my stickie thread... everything is in first post instead of all these pages

I'm having the problem with the Connect option being greyed out in Internet Sharing. I have ActiveSync on my laptop and my registry settings on my phone appear correct. I'm running MightyRom 6.5 on my Touch Pro. I've looked through every tethering thread I can find I've seen multiple threads where this problem with the greyed out Connect button has been mentioned. However, I haven't seen where anyone has been able to solve the problem. Any help that you all can provide would be greatly appreciated.

i was interested in the WMWIFIRouter even if i have to pay, so i wanted to know one thing..

i was reading that i needed a wifi and cellular data connection.does that mean i need a connection at home cuz i dont have one!

you need a cell/data connection to push a wifi signal for data on an other device looking for a wifi data connection. hope that helps

I had it working perfectly however After I installed ziggy's clean up tweak it stopped it from working can anyone tell me what reg setting I may need to edit to have it prompt me for internet connection sharing file sharing etc...

i just looked at the xml file of the cab. there are many reg edits in the cab. just install over existing cab.

I have an HTC Touch Pro 2 and WM 6.5. I installed the cab file and followed the instructions, however, I get the follwoing error message:

Error Code:67
Error Code 67 Registration Failure.

Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect. Please try again.

Any thoughts

If you're concerned about the heat, leave the keyboard open when using it as a modem, that'll help cool it down a bit. Remember that more heat = faster discharge rate.

what is the user name and password? I try calling sprint for it and they say i dont have that information because i need 4Gphone :S

Will sprint charge for using TP2 with Tethering for those with limited data plan.

No, assuming you don't go over the data plan... Mine is unlimited, so I guess I don't know for sure, but this device can't "officially" tether, so if you do tether I don't think Sprint cares - again, so long as you don't exceed the limit on your plan there should be no additional charges. Use at your own risk, as always YMMV...
