Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread

They keyboard lag is terrible. But I have gotten used to it. To me it looks like its really a winmo issue.

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread

I think it's probably a WinMo issue also.

I have tried every ROM there is (running the latest Mighty right now) & while some are better than others, there is absolutely no cab/ROM or tweak that totally eliminates the lag if you're a fast typist period.

My 19 year old son is the fastest typist I have even seen on any phone with a T-9 phone-pad. I am absolutely amazed at how fast he can text on something like an enV.

He had never had a PPC & while he was home from college at Christmas for a month I gave him a spare TouchPro I keep for testing/emergencies etc. It is a Sprint TP ported to verizon service. He had no data, but he has WiFi 99% of the time.

I figured he would love the thing, he was coming from an original orange enV that I gave him a while back. At the end of the month, he basically said "I hate this POS". He is constantly texting & the lag was driving him crazy. He thought all the other features where cool & all, but he basically said "if it can't text right, none of that other stuff matters"

At that point, he gave me back the TP & went out & bought a brand new enV 2 & he absolutely loves it. I have the TP he was using sitting right here on my kitchen table & I use it for ROM testing etc etc

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread

By the way, I don't use the hardware KB at all. I don't like it, I think the buttons are too small & too stiff & I didn't buy the phone for that feature.

I use Touchpal in T9+ 99% of the time & I can type insanely fast with that setup. It is not perfect however. Most of the time, it's great but once in a while the phone just gets stuck on a word & acts like it's froze up. It will sit that way for say 5 seconds & then all of sudden it lets go & everything is fine again.

I have no lag at all really except when it does that freeze thing which is absolutely infuriating...........

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread

Do you honestly want me to post a video of the No-Lag on a mogul? Or why not just use a palm treo 800w or the Palm Treo Pro.

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread

i am not very certain of the source of the problem, but i have found that if you up the system default font size to one size larger in the actual control panel, it greatly diminishes the lag.
im suspicious that this is caused by the rendering of the text in the entry box at the bottom of the threaded chat. it changes to showing only one line of the response instead of two at a time. it seemed to help with my problem.

hope this helps those of you in despair out there! i know how much of a hindrance it is to the best phone out there...

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread

It's got to be a WinMo issue. I've had this problem on my Apache, Mogul, Touch Pro, AND not to mention my Q9c.

To answer the previous question though about just WinMo phones and HTC phones. A lot of my buddies are using the G1 with android (stock roms) and they have lag issues as well. Same with my wifes Centro. Hers has a tendency to lag when the outbox and inbox is super full.

So i take back my previous statement on being just WinMo, maybe just a lack in available RAM or too slow of a processor? Not sure....

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread

I guess i have progress on spotting the issue.

Im using JDs 6.5 rom and the lag is present but only depending on what app i use. I have the most lag in the txting app, i have a little in word mobile, and none in opera mini.... I HAVE NO LAG WHATSOEVER IN OPERA MINI!

When i hit an input txt box in opera mini, its a really simple box that doesnt even allow auto capitalization of first letters per line. I think theres other processes checking the input as we type and thats where the lag is coming from. Also, i have t9 disabled.
