I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

I'm banging my head on the wall trying to get the web connected on my HTC Touch Diamond (6950). I got it flashed at Metro PCS today and got my number. So I came home and tried to do the internet connection tutorial (called: Offical Web And MMS Setting For Metro Pcs!!!!). That didn't work. So I just got done installing Juicy 4.3 (the only one I could find for the diamond) and now I still have no idea how to connect to my web. I do have the $45 Metro PCS plan that includes unlimited web access.

So I've done my connection setting in the ##778# menu (as per the tutorial on this site). Then I did the settings in my connection manager. I try to connect and it says that it can't find the selected proxy server. Everyone says that using a custom cooked ROM makes connecting to the web easier, but nobody says how. To me it looks the same as it did before I installed the ROM (other than the obvious lack of Sprint apps and the fancier screen effects). What does installing the cooked ROM do to help me connect to my web?

Also, the tutorial about connecting to Metro PCS web mentioned something about renaming these files:

Windows\iota.exe ---> windows\iotaOLD.exe
Windows\iotaconf.txt ---> windows\iotaconfgOLD.txt
Program Files\IOTA ---> Program Files\IOTAOLD

I searched all over my windows folder (and the folders around it) and I can't seem to find these files at all. Now I did look for the HTC_CM_Guardian.exe so that I could replace it (it was there before I updated to the Juicy ROM), but I'm assuming that this was removed as part of the Juicy 4.3 ROM.

I really don't know. I'm sure that I could be going wrong in several places. Can anyone offer some guidance to help me get this task completed? I'm really ready to enjoy this phone. Any help at all would be highly appreciated!

EDIT: I carefully read a ton of tutorials (only half a day's worth) and now I'm a lurker? That's a little funny to me... LOL

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

The stuff that they talk about is pretty much what I tried. I used:

9727818284@mymetropcs.com as my username, and metropcs as my password. I setup the proxies exactly like it said to (wap.metropcs.net with correct ports). Now I did have a question. When you setup the proxies, my phone has an option to individually setup a username and password for each proxy server. Should I be putting anything here or leaving it blank?

I still don't have any web...

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

All right. I want to be a little clearer about exactly what I've done. I was in a hurry to go to work earlier and I think that I was a little vague.

I'm following the tutorial and I'll explain in detail how I responded to each step:

1: Check your Windows\startup folder for "HTC_CM_Guardian.lnk", which is a shortcut to Windows\HTC_CM_Guardian.exe. If the shortcut exists delete it. If not then you probably have a newer Sprint ROM which doesn't have the shortcut to launch that application. It is still launching it in some other way however and I have not been able to figure it out from searching forums and the web. The general consensus is to replace the file with a dummy file that I've attached (extract from the zip). Download the attached file and replace "Windows\HTC_CM_Guardian.exe" with the dummy file which will prevent it from running.

I checked my windows folder, but I'm using Juicy 4.3 and I think that this file is not included in the ROM. In any case, it is not there.

2: Rename the following files and folders:

Windows\iota.exe ---> windows\iotaOLD.exe
Windows\iotaconf.txt ---> windows\iotaconfgOLD.txt
Program Files\IOTA ---> Program Files\IOTAOLD

Once again, these files are not in my windows folder. I'm not sure what effect these files have on my connection, but I was unable to edit them.

3: Open your phone and enter ##778#, select "EDIT" and enter your unlock code.

I did this with no problem. My unlock code was just 000000.

4: Set the following values:

M.IP Settings:
MIP_MODE = Simple IP Only

M.IP Default Profile:
NAI = yourtendigitphonenumber@mymetropcs.com
Home Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)
Primary HA Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)
Secondary HA Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)

Security:
HDR AN AUTH User Id = yourtendigitphonenumber@mymetropcs.com
PPP USER ID = yourtendigitphonenumber@mymetropcs.com
PPP PASSWORD = metropcs

My number is 972-781-8284, so I used the following:

M.IP Settings:
MIP_MODE = Simple IP Only

M.IP Default Profile:
NAI = 9727818284@mymetropcs.com
Home Address = 0.0.0.0 (set to 0.0.0.0)
Primary HA Address = 0.0.0.0 (set to 0.0.0.0)
Secondary HA Address = 0.0.0.0 (set to 0.0.0.0)

Security:
HDR AN AUTH User Id = 9727818284@mymetropcs.com
PPP USER ID = 9727818284@mymetropcs.com
PPP PASSWORD = set to metropcs

5: Goto Connections and delete any existing connections and setup a new one using the following settings:

Number to dail = #777
Username: yourtendigitphonenumber@mymetropcs.com
Password: metropcs
Domain: (Leave Blank)

Select Proxy Settings and enter the following values:
wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (http)
wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (wap)
wap.metropcs.net port:443 (secure wap)
wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (socks)

I changed my settings to this:

Number to diall = #777
Username: 9727818284@mymetropcs.com
Password: metropcs
Domain: (Left Blank)

I set my proxies to the following values:
wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (http)
wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (wap)
wap.metropcs.net port:443 (secure wap)
wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (socks)

So I click on the new connection and select the "Connect" option. It tries to connect and then it says that my username and password is wrong for #777. I try to go on the web and it won't connect. Also, when I go back and look at the connection, it deletes what I entered for the http option in the proxy settings. The other 3 settings are still there (wap, secure wap, and socks).

I'm not sure what else to try. I used the *228 option and updated my PRL firmware. It still doesn't let me connect. Please help!!! :)

Is that just the connection password, or do I need to update the PPP PASSWORD in Security?

EDIT: I tried doing just the connection password to mymetropcs and then I tried doing both the connection and teh PPP Password to mymetropcs. Still no change. It won't connect... Any other ideas? Also, why is the HTTP Proxy address deleting itself? I save it each time that I enter it and then after it can't connect, the HTTP is gone...

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

Ok, when I'm setting up my proxy connections, there is an option to input a username password and domain for each proxy address. Do I need to input my info for each address? Right now I'm just typing in the wap address and leaving those blank.

Also, when I'm inputing the socks proxy, I can't enter a username and password (those are grayed out). But it does give an option to select a socks 4 or socks 5 proxy. Which one do I need (right now it is on socks 4)?

You have to type name and password in all of them.
except the last one.
socks 4

I tried and it still says that the username or password is invalid. This is what I have:

wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (http)

username: 9727818284@mymetropcs.com
Password: mymetropcs
Domain: Blank

wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (wap)

username: 9727818284@mymetropcs.com
Password: mymetropcs
Domain: Blank

wap.metropcs.net port:443 (secure wap)

username: 9727818284@mymetropcs.com
Password: mymetropcs
Domain: Blank

wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (socks)

Socks 4 selected

are you using a stock rom?
is it Sprint?
when you hit connect, what is the name of your connection?
go to settings/connections/connections/advance/select networks
make sure the one selected is the one you created

Scratch all that. It is randomly working now!!! Something must have been wrong with a setting or something. I just deleted the connection and did it all from scratch and now it is working. Thank you very much!!! Your tip about the password really made a difference! Now to tackle the MMS...

Hey, quick question: Is there a way to speed up the phone internet? It's not going really slow, but is there a way to uncap the internet speed? I'm planning on trying to use the Wifi card to broadcast a hotspot and I'd like to make it as fast as possible. Thanks for all your input!!!

What prl are you using?
No problem, am glad i could help

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

It is 3G. The guy at the store told me they updated the network last month. Is there a file setting that I can edit that will upgrade my connection or speed. Right now it says that it is a dial-up connection. Can I make that a CDMA or REVa connection? I'm not sure if there is a hack that allows all that...

Also, what would your method be for enabling MMS. I'm losing faith in the original tutorial.

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

Is this the same as dialing *228 and letting the system update? Or is this something else? How do I know which PRL I have, and do I use the one for Sprint or Metro PCS (my phone was originally a sprint phone). How do I know which PRL to use? Will this speed up the web?

djsonar 02-23-2009 09:58 PM

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

Only use Metro prl
Download the latest one
Save it to your phone
Dial ##775# or ##775 send
Enter your msl
Browse for the prl you just downloaded
Update
Restart
You're done.

hmmm.
the thing about sprint rom is that they have picture mail.
and that creates a conflict with arcsoft.
tha only way i was able to get mms working was using an alltel rom
because they come with arcsoft.

which rom would you recommend?

there are so many
but that depends on your taste in roms
i just flashed a touch pro with a sprint rom to see if i can work around it.

you got to flash juicy rom before you chane any setting after that everything will stick..

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

I did flash to the Juicy ROM before I did my settings. So it should automatically work?

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

Ok, new problem. Apparently my internet situation is not completely solved. Sometimes it will connect, but then it will disconnect after a period of time and give me an error that says that my username or password is invalid. It still occasionally deletes my HTML Proxy setting. What would be causing my password to stop working, and why would it delete my HTML Proxy info?

that is just weird.
Under your connections settings, how many connections are there?

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

Sorry I didn't get back quicker, I was at work all day (and I obviously don't have my web working). There is only the one connection. It seems odd that it will work sometimes and won't work other times. And it isn't always the same thing. Most of the time when it works, it says Dialup. Shouldn't it at least say EVDO? I'm not expecting REVa, but EVDO would be nice... Actually I'll take dialup if it would be dependable...

I'm really confused about the password. Everybody's tutorial that I can find for the Diamond says that the password is supposed to be "Metropcs". How did you know that it is "Mymetropcs"? I still cannot get it to connect. It keeps giving me an error saying that the username/password is incorrect. I just updated to the Alltel ROM. Will this make some difference?

Still can't connect...

anybody found a solution, i am still facing the exact problem i cannot connect to the internet it saids password or username is wrong.

djsonar 03-01-2009 01:11 AM

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

Must of the internet problems, om the diamond and the touch pro
are caused by 1: htc_guardian.
Which is ment to keep the sprint or alltel connection as default.
2: name or password.

here are my settings on my test tp

wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (http)
wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (wap)
wap.metropcs.net port:443 (secure wap)
wap.metropcs.net port:3128 (socks)

now for your connections

username:10 digitphonenumber@mymetropcs.com
password: mymetropcs

kk loaded rom 1.6
Arcsoft mms composer 5.0.20.24

If you have an alltel rom it most likely has alltel mms composer
whichcase all you have to do is edit the server settings
server name: metropcs
gateway :wap.metropcs.net
port:3128
server address:http://mms.metropcs.net:3128/mmsc
connection via:internet
send limit:399

like this post: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=42295
i did not figure this out, just found it here so if it helps please thank the original author.

these settings worked on a Apache, mogul, diamond, and touch pro.

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

Ok, I did find that there was the htc_guardian file in my windows folder. I replaced it with a dummy file with no coding at all. I'm still not connecting...

Could it be that I need to use another number other than my actual phone number? I'm looking in my EPST settings, and I see something called MSID that has another number that almost looks like my phone number. Should I try using this?

There has got to be something wrong with the username and password. It doesn't make any sense that I just randomly wouldn't be able to connect. It seems to work for everyone else... I wonder if I call Metro if someone will tell me what my username and pass should be for their WAP network. I am paying for it after all.

BTW: In the Proxy settings, am I supposed to be filling in my username and password or leaving them blank? What did you do? Also, is it supposed to be socks 4 or 5? Nobody ever talks about these settings, so maybe something in there is messed up...

Is is possible that my username is supposed to be my MIN number? They mention in the MMS settings that you should use your MIN number (which might not be the same as the regular #). Maybe this is true for my Web as well?

EDIT: Ok, I look in my EPST settings, and it says MIN1 and MIN2. MIN1 is my area code, and MIN2 looks very similiar to my phone #, but has a few digits changed. So I'm assuming that my full min would be all ten digits put together. Am I supposed to be using this instead of my actual phone #? Could that be my problem?

If I am supposed to be using this number, do I need to change my info for the EPST settings? I'm very confused at this point and I just want it to work...

make sure you have the metro connection
under settings-connections-connections.
click manage existing connections, make sure there is no sprint related connections.

Re: I've tried everything to get my Metro PCS internet setup. Please help!!!

Yeah, I deleted all of that and now that the HTC_Guardian file is gone, it isn't coming back. But, I'm still having these issues. Did you see my question about the MIN number? What do you think?
