Re: Random Turn On

right, the switch is either a normally closed, or normally open circuit, so the best way to check if it's going bad (loose connection, ect..) is to see if there's an issue when the switch is in the opposite position (ie. stylus out)

There is no issue like that. I temporarily fixed it by simply reinserting it last night, but i dont want it to do this during school, not to mention i have no use for that sensor. thats why i want it disabled.

Here's a link to info on the registry keys that deal with the stylus status. Not sure if changing them will have any effect as they are being driven by the switch status. The source code and API's are there if you want to dabble in trying to write your own app :-)

i still say if its broken either use TEP and get it repaired or just finnish it off. when my switch started to go loopy it fell out on its own on my last TP so that was simple.

I to have started getting this and it is the stylus switch. Barely wiggle the stylus or press on the side of the phone and it turns on. Very annoying!

I found the quickest fix for this is aluminum tape.
Not Duct or "Duck" tape, but actual aluminum tape. It is a thick piece of aluminum foil with adhesive. You can get it at Lowe's and such...

Anyways I cut a small square of it ind worked it in over the switch and disabled it without doing any permanent damage.

$9.95?
That was for a HUGE roll at Lowes....
I use it for all kinds of stuff around the house.
It is not a one-trick-pony...

The phones just randomly wake up.

I've yet to see a definitive answer why or any way to make it stop.

the wakeup is usually caused by a notification or a task runing in the background. the good news is that you can get access to both using the same free program. search for fdcsoft task manager. you can use it to expose all the programs running in the background and it can expose all of the notifications. you know how activesync starts ALL the time... notification named repllog.exe... email is updated... notification named tmail.exe. be VERY careful if you decide to delete any of them. you have to rebuild them by hand if you want them back. in other words... delete something you shouldnt and you will probably have to do a hard reset or a restore from an old backup to recover them.

If you didn't know about notifications already then you probably have never written an alarm program in c+++ for your phone.. :-)
