Live Messenger does two way texts to cell phones. Works pretty good. They will show up on the recipients phone as from a random number (50120 or something close) but it will also show your name so they know who it's from. They can easily reply to you and it pops up just like an IM.

The embedded gmail chat lets you send via sms. It's nice because I have gmail open in a tab all the time so I just send via sms if someone is offline.
