Re: Battery Theory

Regarding the phone "over-heating" issue...

I don't know how many of you have disassembled your handsets, but if you have you will have noticed the putty on the inside of the handset that resembles Silly Putty in look and consistency. A quick call to my HTC rep and I found out this is heat-transfer clay. It's supposed to draw the heat out of the handset and to the back of the handset where it transfers to your hand, or air. My handset has been what feels like "damn near ready to explode" before, but the core temperature on the phone remains in a decent range.

I took the clay out of my first handset and had *SERIOUS* issues with it not liking to function correctly in higher temperatures.

That's what this clay is for. If any would like I will find another handset to disassemble for demonstration (taking that clay out makes it damn near impossible to put it back in correctly, making it not function correctly).

Re: Battery Theory

I am currently using all the chargers from my old Motorola Q9C to charge my Sprint TP- all of them work MUCH better than the stock HTC charger. My evidence is anecdotal, of course, but at this point I only use the high quality USB to mini-USB cable to sync with my home computer.

I've also noticed that the girlfriend's blackberry charger works as well as my motorola charger, for what it's worth.

All this is anecdotal of course, but if I have to buy another charger it will def be a Motorola/BB.

Re: Battery Theory

Maybe not as anecdotal as you think... I just know the heating issue is actually a function of the phone, not really a defect. As far as which is better for battery life... that's for the wind.

Re: Battery Theory

Damn, I wrote out my entire experience and lost it

Let me just make it quick, ive been using the HTC stock charger and an old Audivox SMT5600 charger which both read an Output of 5V=1A with an Input of 0.2A

I have a broken Q9C charger which I used for 4 days when I first got the TP but stopped using it because there was a loose connection. I never experienced any heating issues, till about a week in, by that time i was using the other chargers.

Well I charged to a full charge today using the Q9C charger and took it out of the charger at 9 PM. It is now 4:30 AM and I have 5% left. I surfed the internet for 4 hours, with lowest brightness and had BeeJive constantly on, and I just finished a 1.5 hour call.

Just now I feel only a slight warmness to the phone. Before after about 20-30 minutes of using the phone with Opera and BeeJive on, it would start burning up and after being on a call for 30 minutes, it would feel like your hand would melt.

The Q9C charger reads an Output of 5V=850mA with an Input of 0.15A

So basically I didn't have a problem with the battery burning up using the Q9C charger, but the battery life is still the same. I am running the new leaked diamond sprint radio, but battery has always been bad, on the stock radio, telus radio, and even this new radio with all the tweaks.

Re: Battery Theory

Does anyone have an OFFICIAL HTC car charger? The cool chrome one you buy on eBay?

The Sprint chargers are generic... and they're crap. I had one of them start smoking one day when I plugged my Mogul into it. Luckily it didn't fry the Mogul but the charger was toast.

I noticed a big difference between the HTC chrome charger and the Sprint charger... the phone didn't get as hot, the blue LED in the HTC charger is cool to look at, and it hasn't blown up or smoked yet :P
