Sprint two years ago had just as expensive plans and horrible customer service. They have come along way since then. I just switched to sprint from Verizon, and I am not looking back. Their customer service is a breeze compared to Verizon's and I am currently saving $175 a month with the swtich. That's an extra $2100 in my pocket a year. Even if the customer service does go under again, it can't get much worse than Verizon's horrible service. Definitely not $2100 worth worse.

You're right, you do get what you pay for. I pay $100 for 2 lines 1500 minutes, unlimited everything, data, tv, navigation, the works....and guess what...that's what I get :-P

Re: Wifi vs Data

to answer the OP's question -- Wifi drains my battery significantly compared to my data plan. but i use it at home if i'm skyping or on the phone and want to check email at the same time.

i'm saving money with sprint, but the network coverage isn't as good as verizon -- that being said, i have a lot more phone/features for the monthly costs -- i'm saving about $100/month

Yeah I never understood how people got iPhones and just stuck to using WiFi. Its pretty lame to get one just to show it off if you can't even use it how its meant to be used...

But most people who have PPCs and Blackberries have data plans.

I have tested it actually a few weeks ago. WiFi drains the battery significantly faster than using your data connection.

If you're actively downloading (i.e. streaming video), then wifi uses significantly less power then your data connection.

But if you're idle, then wifi uses more power.

How is an iphone supposed to be used? Please enlighten me? Text, email, games, and web surfing?

If your battery is getting drained all the way down with wifi on in less than an hour then something must be wrong. Once I get to school I turn on my wifi and it should last me till I get home. Granted, I am not using it all day. I will surf the internet while I am bored in class or during lunch, but I average about 1-1.5 hr of internet usage with both the data and wifi on. This is comboed with my crappy reception in the classroom. I can still go from 8-5 and be at about 20% battery. Not that great, but it isn't horrible like the people above. Maybe your rom is not battery friendly. Try Merdin's. His rom has a huge difference in battery life and played the largest role for me. Good luck.

Well Hotsauce, im not trying to flame ya, but that post was completely pointless to this thread. No crap that if you don't have data you'd use wifi. lol.

Well I answered your question. Maybe you should've specified that you were asking who uses WiFi when they have a data connection. You didn't even mention the word data in that post. So.. I'm not trying to flame you, but maybe you should ask a proper question before you judge people's responses to it.

Agreed. No data plan? Isn't that like having a car with no gas?

Negative, that metaphor doesn't apply. I have internet on campus, home, friends houses, and even places I hang out. And I save what, a minimum of $30 a month?

I would definitely take data off, if it wasn't because I get it free. I just couldn't afford it, plane and simple. That's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. So many more things to do with this phone. Lol... a car with no gas. that's funny but in my case that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make and to me it wouldn't be no gas, but maybe no a/c.

Gas would be equal to battery...lol

:banghead: Holy Christ, Mods, please close thread as this is no where near the original topic.

If you want to create a thread and argue about different plans and carriers, do it on your :cussing: own. If you have an actual answer for the question, then make ur post.

Thanks again to everyone who answered my question. I agree that if you are actively downloading, wifi uses less battery.
