Need Help on sprint touch pro hacked to work on VZW

Ok so a friend helped me with the tutorial lastnight and we successfully hacked a sprint htc touch pro to work on vzw but I dont have data, and he didnt know how to do it. i see tutorial says to get 1x mode by going into a basement ... well thats not near me. any other way i can get data on my phone? I came from a BB curve and I have a data plan.... If someone knows an easier way to do it please let me know..... thank youlll
