APP Wanted - GPS mileage tracker

Okay,
So I may be dreaming here, and I'm not one for computer programing (at all), so if I'm crazy tell me.

I'm wondering if there is a way to do the following:

Create a program that, when selected (press 'start') begins to track your mileage via the GPS. When you hit "stop" it stops and asks you for a title. It then stores the title and mileage in an excel sheet for retrival later. Something like:

1/22/09 Trip to Staples 5.6mi

Basically, I end up driving around a lot for work, and they are all short trips. I'd love to have an application that keeps track of the mileage automatically so I can export the excel sheet to my companies expense report.

Anyone? Does it already exist?

That really shouldn't be too hard to program actually. If you use Garmin XT it keeps track of your mileage trips in a temp cache...I'm sure this could be imported.

I wouldn't be the one to take on this project though. I've only taken basic VB and java and have limited experience with databases...but I could see how it can easily be possible if it were conjoined with Garmin XT.

This guy made an app for tracking gas mileage, but it did not involve GPS. I just noticed he hasn't posted anything on the site in a couple weeks, but maybe you could try and contact him and see if he can work on integrating the features you want. It sounds promising.

Doesn't Google Navigator (3rd party app, not Google Maps) do that?

But this will be used in a vehicle, so you can use a car charger.

I too would love an app like this, I also do alot of work related driving which is all billed to my employer.
