I know its not very convenient to soft reset every time you want to roam, but at least we have the problem narrowed down. Hopefully someone with some serious windows mobile knowledge will pinpoint the problem for us.

well atleast this way I know that I CAN roam so it is a problem with my pro but 3 in a row?? D@mn!

The funny thing is that when I go to ##PRT# and change preferred serving system to Roaming Only and soft reset after the changes it works great.
But when I tried the regedit cab it doesn't.

I remember when I had dreams rom it worked via settings, phone, roaming options.
But not with any other rom.

Just perfect! exactly what I needed. It stinks having to soft reset the phone and the longer process every time I want to do this, but this is great still. Thank you very much...

Re: No signal while "Roaming Only"

yea it sucks but what can ya do? I'll just keep it on auto and hope for the best. Kinda the way it goes with sprint anyways...lol

Re: No signal while "Roaming Only"

Heh, yep... I've actually have gotten used to it by messing with it through the day, if anything just a little longer than the actual phone settings where the cab is (except for the soft reset of course). It's not that bad when you need it as bad as I do. So now I just set it on roaming when I get in the house, but afterward I only have to go to normal phone settings and select automatic and it'll change without restarting. This is just great I can surf the internet if I want to, I won't miss or drop any calls, etc, all at the comfort of my bed :mrgreen:. Hehe, I've been needing this fix real badly.

EDIT: I hate that automatic thing, i mean it's definitely better than sprint only, but that constant change of signal messes my data up (can't use it). And even when there's just a tiny bit of signal, where on roaming there's double, it'll still try to use sprint's.

Re: No signal while "Roaming Only"

I'm the other guy that could not receive data while roaming ever since I got the phone.
In addition I could not make a call as I got a message saying "verizon could not authenticate your phone"

After 5 weeks of speaking with dozens and dozens of sprint techs, a tech this morning said she did something to re-authenticate my phone.

Now to my surprise data works fine while roaming.

I have no force roam stuff on the phone. My setting is just on automatic........

I hope this may have helped someone.....

Re: No signal while "Roaming Only"

Guys I messed with the registry and I found a solution.
At least its working for me
I changed ItemValue3 and ItemValue4 to 5
and now I can choose roaming or Roam Only without going to ##778#

Try it and let me know if it works.. Because I made a lot of changes before, but I have it working with those settings.

Re: No signal while "Roaming Only"

I was able to choose it before (it appears under settings), but the signal wouldn't lock. But maybe this ^ doesn't apply to what my issue was(is).

Re: No signal while "Roaming Only"

sounds like maybe there is a batch of phones that are not capable of forceing roaming in this manner

You guys are life savers! I'm in Chicago here, and I have a refurbed sprint touch. On my first touch, the forced roam worked great, however on this one it doesn't work at all. I've been on the phone and in the store for hours. The tech at the store told me its not my phone, but the network, and that alot of people in Chicago are having a hard time roaming. Which is complete BS.

I just used the ##PRT# edit, enter MSL method and it worked great. However, I tried to change item value3 to 5, and it didn't work. I don't even have an itemvalue4, so not sure there.

Either way, can't wait to walk into the store and show the tech how the ##PRT# edit actually works!

Let me know if anyone has found out how to avoid having to use PRT all the time....

Re: No signal while "Roaming Only"

Wanted to say thanks for all the people that posted in here. I finally got my Roam Only working.

My registry settings are as follows:
ItemCount = 3
ItemName1 = Sprint Only
ItemName2 = Automatic
ItemName3 = Roaming Only
ItemName4 = Standard
ItemValue1 = 1
ItemValue2 = 4
ItemValue3 = 5
ItemValue4 = 5
ServiceName = Roaming
ServiceTitle = Phone: Roaming

A soft reset was required. After that its worked every time. Thanks again..

Re: No signal while "Roaming Only"

Thanks guys, this is awesome. I also could not pick up a roam signal. I needed roam only because the roam signal in my apartment is solid, while the sprint signal hangs on by a thread. On automatic, my phone chooses a weak but present Sprint signal over a stronger roam signal. However I could roam when the Sprint signal became unavailable. I just needed to manually choose the stronger roam signal.

The ##prt# method works great for me. A lot of work but worth the trouble. Then I changed my registry like ^^^ and now "Roam Only" works directly from the settings. Perfect!

I'm not sure why ItemValue3=3 works for most, but we need ItemValue3=5. I also added ItemName4 and ItemValue4 just to be safe. Doesn't hurt.

By the way I have a Palm Treo Pro.
