Re: Will the Touch Pro be updated?

Should we be concerned about official ROM updates disabling our Windows Mobile tweaks? Would they have to be reinstalled or would they be made obsolete because so much has changed?

I guess I'm trying to understand the difference between a ROM and an OS--is it like the difference in a PC between the BIOS on the motherboard memory and Windows/Linux or whatever you run?

Any ROM upgrade is basically a complete reformat of your internal drive, so yes anything you have done to your phone will be gone.

Interesting. So in some cases a ROM upgrade might actually make things worse/less desirable for people's phones? Usually the trade-off would be worth it I think.

Would it erase your unique data also (contacts, text messages)? I did some OTA upgrades on my last phone and they left the data alone, but it wasn't a WM phone anywhere near this complex, of course.

Yes but you can back up contacts and text msg with spb backup or sprite backup(I have sprite) and any reg hack you put in can be rewrote back in. Most of the times in my Opinion rom updates are worth the extra time to install apps/programs and back ups.

OK, but here we are talking about OFFICIAL Sprint/HTC updates they would push over the air. NOT the cooked ROMs offered on PPCGeeks or other sites.

The official ROM updates would reformat people's phones including the unique data? I just still find that hard to believe.

yes its like hard resetting your phone. you need to back up everything before updating to a custom from or an official rom

You will flash the OFFICIAL SPRINT rom to you touch pro which will erase everything off your phone. You phone will be bone stock just like you got it out the box just with the new rom. Just get spb backup or sprite backup(I have sprite) and back up the things you need but not the system data cause once you back that up and back it up to your touch pro it will throw you back to the old rom
