Help with UC

I have never used UC. I was trying to just get a solid ROM configured correctly and be done with it, but I've learned that will never happen... there is always a problem with my ROM (never apparent until after a few days of use) and there are always new ROMs with new features I want to try.

...so, can someone point me in the right direction on setting up this UC thing?

Things I would like it to do automaticly after a hard reset (new ROM):

1) Install a bunch of CABs.
2) Copy a bunch of files to the windows folder (manila, icons, etc).
3) Apply registry settings.
4) (probably impossible) Restore all my call-history, SMS/MMS, and "People" speed dials (I just installed DashWire and am hoping it can do this for me)

Other tools I need:
1) A registry monitor that allows me to run it, then make changes to all the settings in windows, manila, and every other program that I install, and then generate a registry backup of only the changes I just made. Ideally this would configure my Exchange and GMail accounts as well as the "settings" page for any app I have installed including Advanced Config and other tweaking tools.
2) (if #4 above is possible) A way to backup all my call-history, SMS/MMS, and speed-dials (DashWire?).

I just want to configure everything once and then never have to do it again, even after installing a new rom. ...and I don't want to lose my call-history and SMS/MMS after a hard-reset.

Is this possible with UC? How do I get started?

Thanks. A big thanks in general for this entire forum and everyones pacince with newbies like me. (I did search and I do figure a lot out on my own, but this UC thing has me stumped)

Watching this thread because I really need to learn about UC... I'm guessing it's User Customization and I've seen it run after a hard reset/flash, but if it can install programs for me on top of a ROM, I'm all for that... Anyone have a primer on UC?

Thanks. Here's the short version of what I learned:

Put SDConfig.txt in the root of your SD card.
Edit it to add cabs to install.

Put an XML file somewhere that SDConfig.txt points to.
Edit it to make file-changes, reg-changes, and email-accounts.
(for each email account, be sure to make a GUID)

Links to reg capture apps and other useful stuff are in the thread just above the first [ code ] block.

No file changes (liking copying a file already on your SD card to somewhere on the device) happens in SDConfig.txt via the CPY1, CPY2. For example there's a plugin I want to install with Pocket Player.

Code:

CPY1:\Storage Card\EnEs\gen_audioscrobbler.dll
CPY2:\Program Files\Pocket Player\gen_audioscrobbler.dll

CPY1 is the location of the file, CPY2 is where I want it to be copied. See the list of comands in the second link, those are all in SDConfig.txt, not provisioning.

Also don't forget to read the info on CABs that require user input!

Re: Help with UC

Personally, Instead of dozens of CPY commands, I just combined up all my manila and icon mods into a few cabs. Alot less clutter that way and easily removable if necessary.

You can use PIM backup to backup your call history, SMS, calendar, etc...

The way I have my UC set up, I just have to enter a few serial numbers, sync my contacts and do one reg edit which is impossible to accomplish with an xml file (requires different language)

I may be overlooking some options, but is there a way to use the xml file to create my exchange account, or is it only possible to perform that option for IMAP/POP?

This is something that I have wanted to do, ever since I unlocked my first 6700. I have read and read, and I usually just get bogged down, and give up. I know it would probably be a lengthy tutorial, but I'd be willing to donate for a noob style "step by step", if someone would be so gracious. Although I'm a quick learner, I've never even made a cab ... but that sounds like an interesting method to keep things clean and simple. Anyone ... ?

If you scroll down to the bottom of that xml file posted, you will see all the settings for email.

Maybe this will help... I just went over this in a PM this morning with someone else... might as well post it as well.

1st, download OEMizer.

So to start, let's drop a folder on the desktop (Or anywhere) called "OEMizerTemp", then inside that create a folder called "OEMizer" and place OEMizer.exe and the help.chm files in there.

Now launch the OEMizer app... on the OEM info tab, dont worry about too much of that... it wont really matter for this.

http://www.phattooth.com/webPics/forums/OEMizer01.png

Next, move down and highlight and check the "Mail2Web/Exhacnage" tab...
Click "new" and fill in your info. Be sure to click "Save" when you have everything filled in.

http://www.phattooth.com/webPics/forums/OEMizer02.png

Move up to the POP/IMAP tab and repeat for any POP/IMAP accounts you may have.

http://www.phattooth.com/webPics/forums/OEMizer03.png

Now, just go up and click on the Green "Create OEM".
You should now have an OEM folder inside or your OEMizerTemp Folder, and another new folder inside of that with a few files.

http://www.phattooth.com/webPics/forums/OEMizer04.png

Now, find the file "mxip_myProv_100.provxml" in your new above directory, and change the name to "emailSettings.xml" (or something of the like) and you should have a file that looks something like this....

http://www.phattooth.com/webPics/forums/OEMizer05.png
http://www.phattooth.com/webPics/forums/OEMizer06.png

Now just take your newly created EmailSetting.xml and drop it in SDConfig.txt using the "XML" command... I usually put it as the last thing.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Awesome, Thanks....I'm going to try it now. One question, where do I find the SDConfig.txt file? I looked in the SD card, and didn't see one there. Since I haven't done this before, I might not have one.

Hey bob!

You need to create the SDConfig.txt yourself. You can look at a sample one here:

If you need any other help with it let me know..I got mine working perfect!

That's correct, Bob.
You have to place one there first.

I know you have the link to the UC instructions over at XDA, and there is also on it i think the 1st or 2nd post in this thread... if you wanna use that as an example.

Ok, I guess I partially succeeded. I created an xml for mail settings. It also created an "options.xml"....Do I need that or is that just for use by OEMizer?
However, in OEMizer, I also click on the "OwnerInfo" and "Power" options, but I don't see either in the mail xml....Do I need to to each separately?
Then I went to Config Builder, copied in the xmls - and this is what it gave me when it produced the SDConfig.txt file

XML: \Storage Card\Cabs\EmailPwrOwnerSettings.xml
XML: \Storage Card\Cabs\option.xml

I was expecting to see the xml in text format (can't I just rename xxx.xml to SDconfig.txt?)

It did make a cab for the email settings (which worked when I installed it), but again did nothing for the Owner Info and Power.

I even downloaded the PS Pad, but i couldn't find the Phrase that I quoted.

Where do I go from here (and don't tell me back to school)

Bob

Wow, Bob.... where to start?
ummmm..... back to school!!! ;-)
no no no.... i'm totally just kidding man!

ok.... so 1st off, I personally dont use OEMizer to set my Owner or power settings (i make cabs from reg settings for that), so i'm affraid i wont be much help on that on... and i also dont use Config Builder, so again.... not going to be much help there.

What i can tell you is, that for this example, that "option.xml" has nothing in it we want.
I just use that xml i created above to run from my SDconfig.txt.... so the xml is called out by SDConfig.txt.

I keep all my cabs that i use with UC in a folder on the SD card called "installApps", so my SDConfig might look something like this:
(in fact, this is one of my older, lighter SDConfig's)

LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\hTorch_v3.2.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\RescoExplorerEn_p.ARM.CAB
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\registrymui_p.arm.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\ftpaddinmui_p.arm.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\tcmdpocketarm.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\CapSure_PPC_v1.1.11g.ARM.CAB
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\C-ApiSRO_Setup.CAB
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\sqlce.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\TrackMe.CAB
CPY1:\Storage Card\installApps\TrackMeConfig\config.dat
CPY2:\Program Files\TrackMe\config.dat
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\S2ABlackFull.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\tsowentaskbar5v1.7.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\psShutXPDiamond.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\CameraModeMods.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\PersonalCameraSettings.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\Ident.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\OwnerInfo.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\installApps\WeatherCityList.cab
XML: \Storage Card\installApps\emailSettings.xml
LOCK: Disabled
RST: Reset

Does that help?

Re: Help with UC

Ok, so the SDConfig.txt was correct that I posted. I just need to put the xml file in a folder someplace in the SD card.

Also, you had a number of cabs to be installed...but that goes to the MainMemory "Program Files" . How do I get them to install onto the SD Card itself?

I beleive that is a limitation of the program since SDAutorun suppresses that prompt. So UC only installs to main memory. But quite versatile otherwise.

Yes, just use the SDConfig.txt to call out your emailSettings.xml, you are correct!

Bob, honestly that's out of the scope of this thread....
And to be even more honest with you, i dont worry about it with SDConfig... if it needs to go on the SD card, i can install it by hand... i dont have that many.

Re: Help with UC

:cussing:

Wow, this is why I use Sashimi/Makisu... it does all this in WAY easier steps, and it supports ALL UC/SDConfig.txt options.

Over at XDA there are many "former" UC fans that have moved over to S&M (I kinda like that acronym) so I'm not alone. It's as easy as RTFM and tutorial videos.

Other nice this about S&M is it allows you to "test" a clean ROM for a few days before you run all the customization.

I'm not knockin' UC: Sleuth put a whole heck of a lot of hard work in developing it, but S&M just takes this ball of wax to another level.

Off Soap-Box now

You know, thinking about this more... and i can only guess what you were trying to do here because of the limited info in your post... but IF you are trying to load your owner info back in via xml and dont know about base64 conversion... maybe you might find it easier to make a cab of your reg settings and have UC install that.

zikronix 02-21-2009 07:06 PM

Re: Help with UC

all hex was converted to base 64 the hex loads fine including the owner and connection settings even dashwire acct info. its stupid stuff like prepend settings, scroll bar width, resco program settings and a few other. i know its right per xda and other threads. what i think is stupid is having to break it up into 25 LINE FILES. SO I HAVE 5 xml filess.sashimi imports it fine but i think uc is cleaner any other ideas when i get home i can post files
