Had heard bout it before, just tried it. Might as well call this the camera fix because wow it works. Don't know why but it does. Otherwise scrolling and transitions are less jumpy now.

I've seen no improvements using any new 3D drivers with my Touch Pro

Can I use this with ROM's running Omnia drivers? Or will it like, replace that?
I ran these ati d3d's a few days ago and it actually did help...

It SEEMS, I mean, SEEMS to have made my TP a little quicker. But you might be right about the placebo effect tho. Heck, It doesn't hurt anything to install it so why not? It might just surprise ya!

Ya it fixed my camera, the pics EVERYTIME were blurry even trying to capture say a tv that's on. Now it just shoots it faster because all that blur is gone. Shoots it as well as the camera on my Centro, 700p, or ipaq as far as stabilty now.

Re: ATI Driver for Touch Pro

So can anyone confirm it hurts slingplayer playback? It's worth a try to fix the camera but not at slinplayer's expense in my opinion.

HOLY COW turds batman! It did actually make my cam faster! I just tried it and it worked! As for slingplayer, I don't know cause I don't use it.

I'm interested in Sling being effected also.

Hmm I didn't notice any changes in Sling Player after installing this.

Of course unless Sling makes a better version or HTC makes some improvement on the graphic performance... it'll just be "okay".

did you soft reset before trying?

jmorton10 01-06-2009 07:15 PM

Re: ATI Driver for Touch Pro

Well, my TP is sitting on my kitchen table next to me running SlingMobile on a local cable channel & the driver doesn't seem to have changed anything. I am looking at it right now & it's running at 16 fps which is not great, but it wasn't all that great earlier today either.

For some reason, Sling has never worked as well on my TP as it did on my VZ xv6800's.

Oops, maybe I spoke too soon.

Yeah, the installer requires a soft reset.

I even tried to turn the GDI render on and off with software reboot, no difference what-so-ever.

Well HTC, when you gonna fix the graphics performance issue? And Sling, you can do batter than this...

P.S. Just did some test. Turned off automatic encoding and set it at 300kbps with full frame rate support and GDI rendering. I am getting constant 25-30 fps around 320 kbps.

Sometimes change the setting manually would be better. Of course, depends on your upstream speed at the source (20m down 2m up for me)

Maybe it's just the station? Heck I dont know....I have never used slingplayer at all. It must be like sprint tv or something but better?

Yea, it's better than Sprint TV. I get about 200 cable channels including all the on demand (HBO, Cinemax etc etc) & PPV channels, all with no extra monthly fee.

Ayyee. I'm using Dream's ROM which I believe uses Omnia drivers.
Can I run this cab on it to improve performance? Or do you think it'll make it worse?

I have used this , and if you want to run an app that is noticable , use coreplayer ( flickering screen issue).

Coreplayer without this driver = flickering normal
Coreplayer with this driver = less flickering and watchable.

Coreplayer is just an example to test out this driver.

jmorton10 01-06-2009 07:41 PM

Re: ATI Driver for Touch Pro

latest update:

I just uninstalled the driver, Sling Mobile is one of my most used apps & this was messing with it somehow (the Omnia driver conflicts with SM also)

I reconnected to SM probably 10 times in a row just to make sure it wasn't a coincidence. SM was taking a LOT longer to connect with the SlingBox(it had been connecting almost instantly with the latest software release) & the phone was getting much hotter than it ever did before.

I uninstalled the driver & it seems to be back to normal (I hope it completely uninstalled). The fps didn't change much, but it is back to quickly connecting & the temp problem seems to be gone.

I agree 100%. First HTC releases a $600 phone with old obsolete video drivers & then Sling releases a new software version with "support for the HTC TouchPro" but it doesn't have a setting for true VGA resolution........

Very disappointing on both fronts.......

Really? So far I have had best results at 15 fps and 500 kps. If I try to turn the frame rate up (and kps down) it jumps around a bit at full screen. Even though sling recommends using GDI rendering, I have found the results to be much worse if using it. It stops tearing, but the frame rate goes in the toilet (and jumps around a lot). Also, if I let slingplayer do the settings automatically, it decides on something around 7 fps and 80 kps... (completely worthless). That is with stock and ATI video drivers. Honestly I haven't seen any difference with the ATI driver and slingplayer. It does make a difference with the phone interface though, and the camera doesn't seem to take as blurry photos in low light...
